Today we're checking out the Chase Bliss Mood MKII, which may be one of the favorite pedals of all time. It's a reverb, delay, modulator, and a looper, and really pushes what you can do with one pedal, instantly giving you access to some incredible soundscapes, low resolution chords, and unexpected loops. This thing is incredibly deep, always inspires me, and is truly a desert island pedal for me.

Loving Rhett's slow transition into an ambient/ lofi guitarist, such a cool perspective from him with the more traditional background

Ambient yes, lofi no. Lofi (frustratingly so) has nothing to do with a low-fidelity recording quality or tone, it now describes a genre of slow, sparse, somewhat ambient, hip-hop/soul derived music. Rhett’s stuff, while evolving in ambience, is still bluesy-americana at it’s core.
I thought it will be about TS9.
The greatest tragedy of all us players watching this alone and all other guitar videos is that we don’t play and collaborate with each other. We think we are fine on our own but the greatest music comes out of collaboration and here all are watching knowing that. Imagine after 60k views one of those someone out there you could be jamming with

KZread has isolated and created more bedroom players than brought players together. We're all just playing the same blues crap with expensive guitar pedals. Rhett you more than most will play refreshing stuff but most are just doing glorified tube screamer leads. A unique channel would be one of a four piece band explaining how they come up with music together, not just the guitarist. Anyway thank you Rhett, still love your stuff. Go on your own.

@@ummagumma7826 KZread has made the median skill level of bedroom players go up a few points though. Instead of just knowing the pentatonic scale and some popular tunes, now we know the caged system and triads and non-diatonic harmony and Marty Schwartz. Think of how many players would’ve thrown in the towel if they didn’t have KZread to keep them inspired & educated.

The journey of gear is one that makes music and composition so much fun. There is never a shortage of gear out there, and each one makes playing the guitar revitalized every single time. Great to see your experiences unfold man.
That is a pretty amazing effect pedal. Lots of versatility. I appreciate the in depth look and demo. Lots of possibilities. Thanks!
Such amazing playing, Rhett. Your feel and sense of tone is just awesome! 😎👌🏼
Your channel was what gave me the final push to pick up a MK1 Mood as people were ordering up the MK2. So much inspiration in a single spaced box.
YES!!! I’ve been waiting for this video! Ever since you really showed what it can do on your Euro Tour with Roofman!! Peak content!
One of your best intros, Philip's bass line is on point! 10/10 all around.

My go-to bass for just about everything. It is impossible to get a bad sound from the JMJ!
Always invisioned your tone and the "ambient" sound to be like this! Awesome!
Thanks, Rhett. Happened to have my cans on as I watched this video and really appreciated the audio production quality.
You dont play the mood, you play along with the mood, and the mood plays along with you. Its a beautiful thing.
Bruh!!! I LOVE THIS PEDAL!!! Seriously, one of the most inspiring pedals ever! One of these days we're gonna have to geek out over this pedal!
Hey Rhett, thanks for the really cool video :D Loved how you talked about how inspiring this pedal is for you. Keep the great work dude ^^
Stepping out of my comfort zone is why I got the Red Panda Particle 2. The music I play doesn't use those sounds, but it helps me think differently about my playing. It looks like I'll be checking out the Mood next.
Hi Rhett. I’ve posted this exact same message to you before on one of your previous “pedal demos” . I’m not crazy about the pedal.. was much more into your PLAYING, which was FAB!!! Congrats on your bands new single. 🙏🏻♥️🎼🎵🎶🎸💐😁🌅🥂🍾
That's how I use my whole pedalboard. Delay, reverb, tremolo, pitch shifter that I usually set an octave up and an octave down with the mix knob at 50%, and I mess around with tones and soundscapes. Great pedals, or a combination of a few, can be really inspiring!
Hi Rhett and many thanks for all your videos but this one especially. I took the plunge and bought a MOOD MK2 a few weeks back. What a feat of design and imagination this pedal is. I play it way out there as an instrument in itself but it has finally allowed me to treat the guitar as an source of accidental beauty. Superb.
Gotta love a nice smooth-sounding reverb pedal!😍
one of the best demos of this pedal. Thanks Rhett.
Very cool pedal! That short delay/high clock speed is an example of Karplus-Strong synthesis!
I just received one of these by surprise for Father’s Day and it has been a very pleasant surprise. It’s the first time I’ve experienced the mood, and the classic switch on the back brings back the mk1 features, and it does this cool sort of white noise effect on the reverb when you turn the clock back. It’s pretty cool

Great, now I want this for my bass rig ^^ Awesome video as always Rhett
That amp course seems awesome. I still use your "What is the sound" series to set up my models and understand how these amps actually sound and respond.
Hi Rett, I really enjoyed the sound of this pedal on Roofman's album. Cheers from Brazil!
Im rocking 2 Mood's on my board. Great Playing Rhett!
That is truly an inspiring piece of gear. Way beyond just a pedal, more of a writing tool. The soundscapes you're getting are meditative and almost 'therapeutic'... Yoga-tape composers take note!!! ;) I'm tempted... Thanks Rhett!
This pedal makes all the fun noises. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Rhett - I've been torn on ditching my NightSky for this, and I think this video helped me get closer to a decision.

Very nicely done. I've been considering the MOOD MKII, a bit pricey . . . but this is a convincing video.
Particularly fantastic intro by you and Philip-stash this one for an EP or album track! -Tom
Intro track is very War on Drugs-esque. Love it!
This video demonstrates well what this pedal can do and applied in not just an unconventional/experimental format yet still having interesting sounds rooted in Rhett's playing style, making it a dynamic pedal that can really open up a player's creativity. For those watching, if the Mood mk II is too pricey for you and you still want to have/try what this effect pedal can do, definitely consider getting the Mood mk I, the mkII has some enhancements on the mk I but the mk I can still do a lot of the things the mk II does. The Mood mk I is still easily available 2nd hand, I'm not sure if the Chase Bliss stock on the mk Is are still available (they had a blowout sale this week with Reverb at 30% off), the Mood mk I is priced reasonable well for the effects that it does. I believe the Modd mk I the highest selling/produced pedal in the Chase Bliss stable.
I grabbed myself a habit last week and I’m totally smitten, started lusting after the mood 1 but found a cool workaround using a ultratap at max length for looping and running them parallel to free one or the other. I really like the mood 2 but needs must and good things come to those who wait. Great demo, especially the flexible and rather good/great reverb.

Well if it makes future shopping easier cause I got both 1 and 2, you really only need the first one. I dont play in stereo and the really only difference I can tell is overdubs on the looping side, which hasn't gotten much use at all for me. Theres probably a ton of little things and dip switch things that are different but I haven't found it. The first mood will not disappoint, unless you specifically want stereo.
I find the same type of inspiration from MOOD (MKII), Rhett. It’s really something special. 💜
Hate the clickbait titles, love the channel.
I’ll be buying this tomorrow. Can’t wait!
Headphones was the right choice for that intro. Great sound!
LOVE the vibe of that musical intro -
That intro was something else 👌 Was definitely giving me Division Bell vibes!
Love seeing the ES335 come out again! That pedal sounds amazing but seems like too much to mess around with for me.
Yep.. definitely one of the best pedals ever made… it’s an ocean of inspiration ❤ Btw… the short verb is the sh*t🎉
Very nice intro. One of my favorite pedals also. Great creative tool.
Saw the title “favorite pedal ever” and thought Rhett must have finally gotten a Tube Screamer.
Exactly the sounds I'm looking for!
Wow I’ve never seen the op-1 on this channel before. Amazing sounds
This is what I wanted when I bought a Tensor, the Tensor isnt a bad pedal or anything, but I like that this can do regular reverb and delay. Cool video Rhett, I have noticed these pedals from Chase Bliss, I also just got a Gen loss mk 2, you really explained how the pedal works pretty well. You can almost get 2 older Moods for the price of the new one lol
That jam was so good!
Mood is one those pedals that can take you on a journey every time you sit down to play around with it. And I love that.
Great demo Rhett! The only thing missing was you saying at the end that your sound is better than any ambient tone Josh Scott has ever produced 😜
Very dreamy petal. Could probably make some really cool backing track sounds with it.
Whenever Rhett has a pedal he really loves I know when I look it up it’s going to be like 300-400 dollars 😂
Sweet sounds
I constantly think to myself how damn good the reverb is on everything Rhett plays. It just always stands out to me as such excellent reverb. If this is the pedal making all that glorious reverb, I may just have to look into getting one. I miss the days when pedals were $50-80 for every pedal out there. Now it's $300-400 and up, and it becomes a bit financially tough to "try out" pedals anymore.

I mean, a lot of solid stuff is still pretty affordable (boss, behringer to an extent), and it's a bit unfair to compare a pedal like the mood, which is damn near its own instrument, to basic tube screamers or whatever. And let's be honest, the _real_ magic is happening with digital stuff now, whether that be plugins/VSTs or Kemper/AxeFX presets. Digital has come so insanely far in the past decade that you will be blown away if you don't keep up with it.
Rhett's playing has improved so much over the last few years. It's amazing to see.
I was able to pick up a MK1 last month on sale from reverb. its really playful and unique.
Oh man that opening was incredible
1) This is one of the best Mood tutorials I've seen, and I've seen a lot of them. Thanks so much! 2) I'm curious as to whether the Microcosm lasted past the honeymoon stage, for you? That's not a criticism at all, and your initial Microcosm video was a big factor in my getting one. I'm just interested in how your interest in it may have morphed over time, and/or been supplanted by the Mood.
Bloody Hell, Rhett! I only just went and bought a Chase Bliss Mood MkI 2 minutes into watching this video! 😅 Great video as always
BEST intro jam to date!
Just recently came across you on youtube, really digging your videos. Been planning an overhaul of my pedalboard so it's cool to see what others are discovering too. On a separate note, I'd be really interested to hear your thoughts on AI and it's potential implications on the music industry and artists, it's kind of a scary thing for those of us wanting to take this journey seriously. P.S. really digging your band's new single!
I'm guessing that there is a "plan B". Great video demo!!!!! Very nice tune in the beginning of the shoot. Love the bass line flow
Maybe consider doing the Old Blood Noise Endeavors BL-44 REVERSE. Amazing.
I've been looking through the videos on this channel specifically for effect pedals. How does this pedal compare to the Microcosm? I understand that they are different pedals and and that what you love changes over time, but I would be curious to see a video comparing the different pedals featured on this channel and see how they compare to each other and what type of things they can be used for.
This video is going to sell a lot of these pedals
This might be one of my favorite intros Rhett has ever done.
Rhett, they just released a limited edition graphic Mood MK2! Yes, I ordered it😅. Time for some fun times.
I bought a couple of fuzz boxes because of you and here you go again...hehehe.... I seriously want a looper. My pedalboard has delay up to 2 sec., which is fun.
Rhett has the makings of a “Trippy Dude” and that’s high praise indeed
Just bought a Mood MkI for 245 euro including shipping directly from Chase Bliss - that’s like 50 less than used prices. Nice vid Rhett.
Awesome rhett
I have headphones on and the wide intro panning immediately made me take them off - everything after that sounded great
Hi Rhett! Thank you so much for this video! I really want to get one, but I also thinking about blooper. Have you tried it before?
How would you compare this to the Microcosm? I remember you really enjoyed that pedal, and the Mood seems to do similar things to it.

@Rhett What amp head (or Helix/Kemper preset) are you using for the dry/crunch tone at around 6:55? Really love the way it pairs with the Mood!
My issue with buying pedals like this (and I've bought a few) is that everything I tend to play through it is this slow dreamy stuff that I'm really not that into in the first place. I find they never have a use for anything other than the kind of stuff Rhett is playing in this video .

I love stereo so much.
Very cool. I love my Slo p3al for many of the same reasons.
Can’t you see?! What that Rhett Shull does to me! I just ordered the MK 1 lol
This could be my favourite Rhett video, until I see the next one 🤣😂🌞
After I stumbled into the JHS Show, I started getting into pedals. 30 years ago, I had a few, but stopped messing with them in the late 90s. Pedals are definitely fun and addictive. The one draw back for me, is whenever I play electric, I spend half my time tweaking tones vs actually playing tunes 🤓🔫
I need more of that intro track in my life
Funny, I've had the Mood on my wishlist for a while, it went on sale and I bought it immediately, then they came out with the MK2 just to punish me :)

Hey Rhett, that pedal is one of the coolest I've ever played. Mostly because my uncle, Andy Othling, designed it.
@andsoistopped

Andy Othling might be your uncle but he’s my Godfather. He is the Godfather of all ambient guitarists.
I was so excited to get this pedal, but after a week with it I'm just really not getting it. I've tried messing with dipswitches, but I never get anything out of the microlooper I like. It's a fun toy, but doesn't feel like a tool that you can reliably get anything useable out of for a song, and if you do find something, how do you recreate it? I had similar issues with the Microcosm. I think an LVX or reverb pedal into an El Capistan are more my speed. Lovely demo though, and for some this pedal will be fantastic. Just saying, it's not for everyone.
