This Is Why We LOVE Thames Mudlarking! We Return To Our First Hammered Coin!

This week we returned to Mudlark along the Thames foreshore. We have not visited for over 9 months but this week we go back to the glorious mud of the Thames! It did not disappoint as we both found something unexpected and amazing! Come with us as we wander the banks of the foreshore looking for treasure and crafting materials and at the end I (Fleur) craft with some of the very things we found :)

I agree with others that the layered glass Seems to be old mica . Perhaps it was a Very early craftman's attempt to create glass type containers or windows with Mica bits connected like stained glass windows . Also seems to me that the Sepia like shades of the glass layers might be caused by deliberate fire craftworking or by there having been an accidental fire damage to the piece . Just so it is quite beautiful and unique . It would make a lovely pin or pendant piece . Thanks for sharing this interesting Mudlark , Ladies . Anne Minnick , Massachusetts , USA . Carpe Diem !

Amazing finds. The tiny thing you said looked electrical is a hypodermic needle. I find a lot of those in my local 1930-1940s dump, here in Canada. The mystery item like a micro Fanta bottle might be a bit of tropical coral, common in ship's ballast. The pipes appear to be 1700s and 1600s.

Oh good! Another video. No early night for me… I love the pin finds too. I wonder who used them to pin their clothes, what their lives were like, how their pins ended up in the Thames… they got blunt? Fell out? The millefiore bead is gorgeous. I have a whole string that my Great Uncle brought my Grandmother back from his travels in Europe after WW1. They are mostly dark blue glass with red and yellow. I treasure them. The farthing - you wonder how folk stored them. You could easily lose that. And they obviously did.

Perfect finds for you ladies. Rose Farthing is priceless. The Venetian Trade Bead, at first I thought it was a glass bead shaped like a fish. When you held it a certain way, I saw a fish with opened mouth, and two eyes. Can’t wait for your return trip to this magical shore.

Woohoo hey.. let's find treasures. I live vicariously through yall🤣my grandma always kept a safety pin under her apron on tug left lower side. I never knew what that meant until much later. It's to ward off evil.. awesome! Those are r cleanest pipes I've seen yet! I thought that was one of the Africans brother's beads. And cobalt was the first color Asian used for royalty. And the didn't l slave beads are so historical. Wow!!!

Wow! Congrats on your hammered coin, Fleur! I was thrilled with each and every find. Though the pins and the tie that holds them isn't really that uncommon, they continue to be one of my favorite finds of the mudlarkers. Though there is a sad history to the trade bead, it is truly a marvelous find, Kate. Your iridescent glass tea light holder was a sweet surprise, Fleur. On a rotating pedestal would be a fun way to exhibit it's beauty even more. Much Love and Care to You until the next Lark, from Nance in Nor Cali.

@@MudlarkingWithKitCaboodlers we just don’t have the post-stone age history in North America like Europe has. The natives that were here before the Europeans also have a rich history but there aren’t nearly as many tangible links to them .. a few pottery shards and ruins , pictographs and petroglyphs and stone tools but nothing like the old architecture and artifacts and Roman stuff like you have. Not as much either. Take care.
