This is What Happens When You Refuse To Shoot...

Спорт

It wasn't too long ago that many of us thought that Ben Simmons could become the next LeBron James or Magic Johnson... and in his first couple seasons it looked like he was on pace to becoming an all time legend. However his offensive game has regressed every season and now he's one of the most criticized players in the league and has lost his starting role on the Brooklyn Nets.
So how did we get to this point? To answer this question we need to go back to the 2016 NBA Draft and look through Ben Simmons career to see where it all went wrong.

Ben Simmons is what you get when Talent doesn't Work Hard. He's the epitome of Last one in, First one out when it comes to working on his game. Idk a single competitive team that would hitch their wagon to a player who only regressed, and eats up tens of millions to put in strictly cardio game after game.

see this thrown a lot like you actually saw simmon's daily routine. JJ confirmed in their interview that simmons constantly works on his jumpshot before and after games/practice, so yes simmons does work hard. thats like saying that every honor student is guaranteed to get in harvard as long as they study hard, life doesnt work like that. Everyone has their own skill ceiling. Simmons is not as good as people expected him to be, but thats no proof of him being lazy.

As a 76ers fan, I remember the frustration of hearing how he was out hanging out in LA with Kendall Jenner in the offseason in his early career, and always coming back with the same flaws. His unwillingness to shoot is one of the weirdest things I've seen in my 25 years as an NBA fan. Physically, there's nothing stopping him from developing this fundamental skill. That's not only about the hustle, you can't hustle out of nowhere. Something bothers him. Simmons looks frustrated af. It's clear, he can't do everything people expect him to do. The NBA is a meat grinder, he needs to either have a break from the game (maybe a definitive one), or go to a team where the pressure is way lower than Philadelphia and specially New York, even this has the risk of him being the "superstar" of the team. I'm no psychologist, but I think he doesn't believe how good he is, that's why he can't improve, he just doesn't let himself do what's good for him. I was in this situation (and go back sometimes) and I know a lot of people of my generation that's in this hole too, he's just a year younger than me, maybe it's a generational thing, idk. Ironically, he needs to "trust the process" and give a few steps back to go forward.

Exactly he didn't change one bit and the league got used to him. Since he started to see that they were figuring him out he took that as a hit to his abilities and his ego, not as an indicator of him having to improve. So after that Hawks series, for the first time he received more criticism than praise and that was a hard hit for him emotionally. He was so used to be praised and so confident on his natural talent that he just collapsed mentally.

I think the problem is that there was too much hype of him being a big point guard like Lebron and Magic. If he came into the league as a small ball center instead of a guard, he would have a different career trajectory. In order to raise his draft stock, Simmons developed a skillset that would have the casuals hailing him as the next Lebron. He should have focused on big man fundamentals instead of trying to force himself to play as a guard, even if that meant that he would have not been as hyped as he was before entering the league

Philly Native here, I watched him unravel 2 years ago n I was both sad for him, n mad at him. He clearly suffers from a thinking problem on court when the stakes are high. I have no clue if he was raised to feel entitled in his childhood, but him being a #1 draft value did not help. He has to somehow embrace adversity for love of the game n life in general. Truth is, I don’t think he loves the game. He loves celebrity status. Maybe once that status is 200% tarnished, he could dig deep n get better. That’s looking highly unlikely. Stranger things have happened though so who knows. I really hope he works on what’s hard, n gets aggressive. His story could turn a 180 n become the athlete most us know he was meant to be, n how great of a story would that be? Epic.

simmons took "I don't need all this negativity" to a new level and destroyed his career in the process.

Embiid is a better man then me. Idk how he never beat his a ss at one point. Simmons might be worse than Westbrick now

When his doesn't want to listen to advice, his just gonna be stagnant. Kobe already gave him a huge amount of leads for him. But since he ignored him, so he did regress so bad now. 🤷

This is what happens when you never make any effort to consistently improve your game. Doesn’t help that he was surrounded by people that would always tell him how great he was as is.

U don’t have to shoot to be good. He was an all star, rookie of the year and all defensive team. He got injured and is no longer the same player. Can’t hate him for getting hurt

Philadelphia screws another. Mikel Bridges is the luckiest guy who got drafted but got traded on the same day to save his life.😊

Honestly they need to send simmons to Australia... they actually can get his confidence back.

He runs the risk of playing in the NBL in Australia and getting his ass kicked there too. That would be a massive embarrassment.

Anybody that watches basketball could clearly see this dude was a bust from day 1. Dude had back issues in high school. He's a power forward that was forced to play point guard for some odd reason. He had zero ability to score and had no work ethic at all. Philly fans cope so hard when it comes to this bust.

Philly fans are the ones saying "we told you so" after he proved he wasn't going to improve. It's been years since I heard a Philly fan defend him.
