I get the feeling that sub-40 is only remotely achievable for a tiny tiny portion of TRC audience, and everybody just wanted to mess with andy

@@timwildauer5063lol there’s only one person in the sub 2 hour club for the time, being Mr. Kipchoge. Unless there is a cultivation of running culture we we might not see another sub 2 in our lifetime.

@@BryceRKoehn I think we will. Kiptum is very close to matching Kipchoge's official record and is 15 years younger.

What always amazes me about Andy's relaxed running form is how easy he makes it look. Testament to his fitness level.

yeah.. it looks like he's barely running... but it's far faster than I can even do in my speed intervals.

Yeah it looks like he's jogging at 5 mins per km pace. But he's eating up the ground. I think the key is to get the knees up a bit and increase cadence, which increases pace without sacrificing much energy.

Might be in the minority, but I would legit watch Andy run a marathon from start to finish. Fascinating.
Andy, you never cease to amaze us with your amazing energy, your positive attitude, your absolute passion for the sport, your handling of team mates comments ( ;-) ), your dedication to help non-professional runners, as viewers of TRC. You remain a Champion and a Winner to us! The TRC would not be the same without your inputs and motivation. A Big Thank You.

Thanks Andy! So many running You Tube channels talk about “what you SHOULD do”, “what you SHOULD be thinking about”…but rarely do you see it (and hear it) so graphically put into practice! It’s rather comforting to see that a former professional goes through the same mental and physical challenges as me, albeit at either end of the success scale.

THIS!!!! This exactly. I feel exactly the same as you. It is extremely interesting how the mental state of humans changes throughout hardship and how similar it is between individuals, even when it is at completely different paces and training levels. Seeing how his heart-rate jumps as he goes on is so reassuring, too; I remember when I began wearing a watch I felt frustrated because I thought I had no potential since my HR was so high.
Achieving this twice is one of my biggest running achievements so far (39:42 and 39:15). Next short term goal is sub 39 min and long term sub 35.
Well done Andy 👏. Amazing how easy you actually make the pace look. Just appears you're literally jogging!

I was thinking I could do that, but I can't...
What I love about this, is that the struggle is real for everyone. I always thought I was the only one suffering !!!!!
I heard him say knees weak, arms are heavy. And I said mom's spaghetti out loud... honestly this is huge for me because part of my 1:27half training calla for a sub 40 10K and I'm honestly scared to death. But at least I can see what it takes. You are awsome Andy, sub 3 marathon would be in the cards easy. Especially if you're talking the whole way🤣
Thanks Andy. I recently ran 42 something on an admittedly easier, slightly net downhill course but I still blew myself away as I only dared to hope for sub 45. I remember how proud I was of myself when I first broke 50 minutes. The idea of running under 40 seemed daunting at first because of how much effort and discomfort sub 50 felt. But I realized that obviously that goal seems lofty when you don't have the training to do it. Now that I do , I know that I have a 39:59 in me. That's all I want. 39:59. I'm not even trying to be a middle distance runner. I want to run ultras. But I really want a sub 40min 10k on my list of achievements.

I ran a sub 20 5k in February (19:56). After I crossed the finish line I was almost sick. Cannot imagine keeping that pace up for another 100m, let alone another 5k
Amazing! I actually bumped into you just after you finished filming this. Can't believe how fresh you were with that time in that heat! Thanks for all the inspo guys, gearing up for my next half marathon in 10 weeks so will be watching :)
Superb running and really insightful to watch, Andy! Thank you
Good on you Andy, loved this!
It was inspiring to see Andy go through the same phases then when I am running 10k however the pace is very different!!:) Thank you and Well Done!!
Well done Andy, amazing effort 💪👊🏻
Such a brilliant effort. It's so nice to see how hard you should be pushing to improve times. Thanks, Andy.
This was a very inspirational video for me. My PB for a 10k is 58 minutes and I was totally spent after that, but I feel inspired now to push it a little bit more and see what I can do, if I can get a sub 50 that would be awesome but it will take some considerable effort and a week off work after 🤣😂🤣
Well done Andy and thanks for some great tips in there.
Andy, you're a BEAST mate. Beautifully done.
Really excellent video. I would happily have watched this unedited - it really gets across the reality of a longer run like this.
This is so awesome! Thank you so much for doing this. It really helps me understand some things I can aim for and how to eventually achieve this. I very much appreciate your commentary throughout the video!
The next target has to be a sub 1:30 1/2 marathon now. You started the ball rolling, might as well finish it.
Fantastic run Andy! For most of it, you made it look easy and like you were jogging. Plus you could think and talk and give us really useful running tips.
Awesome! Looking so relaxed! 👍
Brilliant well done Andy 👏🏻💪🏻
Thanks Andy - it’s so helpful to see what a properly paced run looks like 👍
well done Andy. i liked to see Andy do a mile as fast as he can... im sure itll be quick!
Thank you... This run and the 5k run you did are so informative and very much appreciated. The way you explain the different stages while also seeing the physical / mental effort involved throughout this 10k you've done, give real insight into the effort / thought process involved to go about doing well (relative to our goals) for us average runners. I know I've learned a lot from these and I know I will look at them several times and used them as cross reference. 😅 Also, it's amazing to look at on the video how fast you are going with what looks like minimal effort, minimal but quick strides and you are just motoring....
Andy. What a legend
Really enjoyed this, great to see the reality of running fast and the effects on your heart rate.
Terrific effort. Coaching us whilst running is HARD! 🙏
Great video, the 5k version really helped me to a recent pb - totally changed my in race mindset! I’ll be rewatching this ahead of my next 10k pb attempt 🤞🏻

Another great video - well done. Amazing to see how you can manage you heart rate so high for that long and still speak when its that high. Makes me think that there is more in the tank than one thinks when on a run or is it just athletic genes that I my forefathers lacked.
Great job, well done!
Amazing how effortlessly you're talking while maintaining that pace!
I love this videos, 5k under 20, 10k under 40 - all benchmarks I will try to hit at a given time. Still learning how specific paces feel like and what I can keep up for how long etc - this kinda explaining/ talk along videos really help to get a better understanding.
Well done Andy. Although I’m right at the begging of running I can relate to things you say even though my distances are much much shorter. Now all I need to do is increase the interval distances I can do without stopping 👍🏻
You must run so efficiently Andy, you make it look so easy! 😮. Great tips though, hoping this video will get me up and running, so to speak. Thanks for this, will revisit time to time to see if I can get anywhere near 40 mins. 😊
Well done Andy 👏🏻👏🏻💐
Wow this has really helped put into perspective what it can look like in terms of heart rate and breathing as the time ticks on. Thank you!
Nice of those two blokes to pop up right at the end running at a casual conversational pace while Andy is suffering 😅. Could this be Sarah's devilish work?!!!!
Awesome Andy love these videos 👏👏👏
Well done Andy! I am aiming for sub 39 mins (maybe sub 38:30 if it's a good day) at the start of August. The same race last year was just under 48 minutes; heat with hills. How you can finish and focus entirely on the video content, as opposed to how you feel about the run you just did, is next level professionalism :) A challenge you may find tricky: how long can you all run in zone 1 for without going in to zone 2? 🧡
Thank you Andy! The only way I will ever see what that looks like is watching your video 😮 wow! Old, Schmold! You are amazing!
That was a great run. I aim to do 10K at pace 5. work in progress. Good to hear what goes on in your head in different parts of your 10k.
Fcken love Andy. What a champ. More of these please 😊
This is absolutely awesome. I ran ~12 km in a split marathon this year and got scared when my heart rate hit about 180 when my pace was slightly under 5. And you are running over some serious time while talking that must be a real war going on in your head. Big performance grats for that…
Always an inspiration 🎉
Well done Andy 👏 this was fantastic to watch, would happily watch unedited if you do decide to post it. I ran my first ever 10k in June, barely 5 months post natal at 1.03.12 I think I would have been faster only I started to far back (I know rookie mistake😅) I'd love to see Anna do a sub 2 hrs half marathon & I'd love to see the breakdown training for it, maybe make a series out of it 🤔 thanks for all the fab content
Brilliant! I've been aiming for a sub 40 10km but unsure what's the effort level is like. Your video helps a lot for me to understand it's a steady climb from a effort 6 towards a 9ish 10 when reaching the end. Thanks Andy.
Absolutely amazing that your breathing is so controlled at that heart rate. This is a great video to watch. but poor Andy!
The bigger kudos goes to Sarah on the bike! ;) In all seriousness, top quality video and loving the podcast as well. Sending love from Tokyo (to keep Rick happy)
Wow! Well done ❤
Your pace looks so easy, you must be tall and have along stride. I love at the end the way you just wander off over to the little gate as if just heading home :)
Well-done Andy
“I’ve done this in training” most helpful mantra for me. Did a parkrun effort on Saturday and as I went into the last km I just thought ‘dig deep, it’s just one more rep, I’ve done it in training’.
Watching this video right after listening to your latest podcast, Andy does have a very deceiving stride... amazing to see one runs so quick without bringing up the knees / kicking up the heels... 👍
I'll take your word for it because I'm never going to see 40 minutes again at my age! Good job!
Thanks Andy great video just run the Goodwwod 10k on Sunday will take the advice from this and try and improve next time
Thanks to your video that I watched twice Andy I ran a sub 39 10k at my first attempt in a race. I did exactly like you: first three kilometer calm down to keep the pace (around 3:45 /km like you because why not), then 4 to 7 keeping the pace, then 7 to 10 "how bad do you want it". Well slowed down a bit around 8k and wanted to give up. Then I thought like you did okay it's only a mile left and I do want it badly, I run this in training too. Then still had some sprint left the last 500m or so. My heart rate was quite consistent around 175 though (not sure what max is but never seen it go higher than 188 on my watch), so maybe I could have pushed a bit more, but mentally I was suffering so I cut myself some slack. Felt like falling down. Thanks for the motivation! Also the mindfulness approach is great. Relaxing the upper body and keep breathing. (Considering the use of mindfulness here, have you considered joining a vipassana meditation retreat? Think it would be very beneficial for you too.) Great cues during the run. Thank you.
This would be amazing as a podcast to listen to while I ran the distance (would need one for an hour 10k as I’m not fast lol) but someone positive in your ear narrating you giving positive motivation that would be ace!
Awesome effort @AndyB. My current 10K PB 50 :17 I have 2 10K lined up. But the last one is where I'm planning to be sub 45. Thank you all at the TRC for the excellent content you produce. 🙏🏴❤️
Thanks Andy, you made it look easy. I'll take some of that advice into my 10k at the weekend. It probably won't be a PB as I'm still suffering with Piriformis issues. 🤕 The next video I'd like to see is you running a World Record attempt at Parkrun. 😉
