This is our own take on a Rum Barrel. It started with the idea to have the Make and Drink Patreon and Discord work on our own barrel. The initial inspiration was the Arkham Kila, from Jason Alexander. While not a rum barrel, it's heavy on the rum and big on juicy flavors without being overly sweet. We took the backbone of that and added in elements of other rum barrels.
From Don the Beachcomber, we incorporated the equal parts juice blend as well as the heavy dose of rum. Trader Vic contributed the fruit liqueur which we changed from apricot to peach. This adds more to the juicy summer vibe we were going for. Steve's Barrel contributes the almond extract which helps amplify that peach flavor. Lastly, we took elements from the Barrel O' Rum and made our own rum blend with Coruba as the backbone.
The rums used are to pay tribute to rum. Rums from Puerto Rico, Barbados, Guyana and Jamaican round out this rum barrel to make it plenty boozy while still being balanced.
Who knows, maybe we'll be back later this year for a dark and spicy Rum Barrel.

Super cool experiment, though with these many ingredients and those many rums, I feel like people are reading tea leaves in the tastings notes. Perfect example being what is arguably the best tiki drink of all time, the Trader Vic Mai Tai. Four ingredients. PS - fr you are the best tiki channel on the web right now, keep it up!

Scaled it down to a half barrel recipe. This has the classic stylings of a vintage rum barrel, but the honey peach cinnamon combo really differentiates it. Even used in such small quantities, it steers the whole thing in a unique direction.

I understand that it's a kinda off topic, but do you have any extensive experience using Worthy Park 109 (if I recall correctly, you haven't used it in your videos yet)? I've seen in many small reviews and, which is more important, in Kevikn Crossman's review that it's far more similar to Demerara rums than to Jamaican ones. And it actually makes a lot of sense. It was initially made as an alternative to Pusser's rum, which is essentially a Guyanese rum, not some black Jamaican rums like Coruba. And if Jamaican distillery would want to make something akin to Demerara rum, they very well could make it. After all, we do not put Demerara rum in drinks because it's made in Guyana, but because it has the distinctive taste associated with what we imagine as Demerara rum. I would be very glad if I could hear your thoughts about it.

I think I've used it before. I know I've killed at least a couple bottles so I assume it's been on the channel before. The MaD Patreon wanted WP109 for the Barrel, but since it's harder to find I wanted to use more of a staple (Coruba) that is easier to find a sub. That and initially didnt want the higher ABV. On my long list of things to do is a dark rum video, which that will be included in. I happen to love it.
