This is how to climb stairs with TKR

Ғылым және технология

Climbing stairs is challenging when recovering from knee replacement. Without the proper exercise and mechanics, it will be a challenge to climb stairs with TKR. You won't be able to go up and down stairs normally and safely.
In this week’s video, I shared how to practice and prepare to climb stairs with TKR. I also shared the proper mechanics to climb stairs correctly.
This video will cover the following:
✅ what you need to be able to climb stairs normally
✅ what exercise is good to prepare you for climbing stairs
✅ the proper mechanics of going up and down stairs
…and so much more!
Enjoy this week's video!

I had a trabecular fracture 4 months ago... when I climb down i did exactly how you showed in the video, quickly getting off the wight from the injured knee. I will try this method.

Hi. I’m looking at your video. I’m going up the stairs but physical therapy told me to only practice going down the stairs starting on the last step.

when going down the stairs, the weaker leg, the surgical leg , goes down first! You tube has tons of tapes on this!

Thank you for the input @shreenair9829. What you said is correct during the initial stages of recovery. What I am showing in the video is when going to go back to normal already which is the later part of the recovery process.

If both knees were subject to TKR

Good question @josieleennajarro7871. If you have bilateral TKR, one of them usually is stronger or better than the other. The one that is progressing better will be considered your stronger leg/good leg. The strategy is still the same. Hope this helps.🙏

You put massive captions right on top of the area in the video where your legs are - so then one can't see what you are doing!!! Please delete them, so I can see what movements you are making. Thanks.

@@restorepluspt Hi there - nice of you for coming back to me, and thanks for this, but the captions are right on top of your feet now, so again I could not properly see what you were doing there with your feet and ankles etc, and also the captions are absolutely massive. I would either make the captions much smaller, so they are normal type size, or just let people select in the settings whether they want to display them. Not everyone will need them, and this will give them the option to watch your movements without them, and then to rewatch the movements with the captions, so they get the best of both worlds. I hope this helps further.

I agree Fadrus. The eccentric contraction of the quads is more difficult that is why going down is difficult.
