    Just had a total knee replacement and loose bone removal for the 2nd time in my right knee last year and on Monday and it's now Friday, still in severe pain( 1st TKR though)!! I'm praying it goes away soon! But, I have been doing my exercises and trying to walk. Crazy amount of pain 😞 I really appreciate these kind of videos, thank you so much for sharing 🙏❤️

    Thank you so much for sharing this information. I will try these for my knee replacement recovery and appreciate the advice! I can walk far, but I am working on walking NORMALLY. I mutter to myself as I walk, “walk like a normal person”. My husband says it makes me sound like an alien trying to fit it. LOL LOL He says I walk okay but have to stop talking to myself. 😂

    You're welcome Eileen. I hope it helps. It is part of the recovery process that you start off walking slowly. It is similar to learning to walk again when we were toddlers. With time as your strength and balance gets better, your walking speed will increase as well. Forcing it now will only make you prone to falling which you want to avoid. Wish you the best🙏

But 1st one was doing good, then when other side went out so I was depending on leg with 1st replacement. When I stand, I hold position for second or two to make sure which one I can put weight on. When I try to sleep same thing, the 1st hurts as bad as 2nd. I've got to get this right. I own and run a business. I've got to get back to 100%.

    9 ай бұрын

    I'm sorry to hear this @user-sm8ft3tu1f. I know what you mean since I have my own business as well. You most probably overused the first one because the second one did not do too well. That causes inflammation on the first one and made it worse. Permanent solution is to get the second TKR better so the first one will not have to compensate too much. Also address the symptoms on the first one such as inflammation and pain. Make sure to work on the strength and range of motion on both knees. Wish you the best.🙏

    Hi sir Thank you for such detailed information and action, it is very comprehensive. I had my patellar fracture 3 months ago and now for past 3 weeks,I started walking without any support. I limp, so I came across your video. My query is when I walk I put the weight on my heel of the fractured leg( left one) due to which it gets sore. I noticed that with my right leg I don't necessarily put all the weight on the heel. Now can you please guide me as to how can I get this normalised.

  • @restorepluspt

    @restorepluspt

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Anushree. I'm sorry to hear that you fractured your patella. I am happy to know though that you are progressing. Walking has different phases. The stance phase (when you put weight on that leg) starts with heel strike (when your heel touches the ground). It should quickly and smoothly transition to foot flat (your whole foot in contact with the ground). Then you lift your heel off the ground. Normally, you should not be putting too much weight on that leg during heel strike and you should not be staying at that stage for a long time. You stay at midstance longer. Try practicing that rocker movement of the foot and see if that helps even out your gait. Would love to know how it goes.

    Hi My name is Keren and I am a 73 year old woman living in Sydney Australia. I had a TKR on my R knee almost 5 years ago and a revision (to put in a larger spacer behind the kneecap) 18 months ago. I have walked with a limp ever since the first surgery. 4 days ago I had another surgery to release the ITB below the knee and also had some of the patella removed. I am still in a lot of pain from this latest surgery, but am keen to start doing these exercises when I feel I can. Any other tips or comments would be appreciated. I am very depressed about all the surgeries and the work I have put in over the past few years seemingly to no avail. I found this video nice and easy to follow and hopefully, when the pain subsides from this latest operation, I will benefit from following your sequence of exercises.

    Thanks for your video. I see may people here are very early in after their knee replacement/other surgery. I had a knee replacement done last May, so it's about my 10th month after surgery. My walking is not very normal. I feel stiff and I do limp. Afraid to fall. MY PT was ok but I had a physical therapist who said I did not push myself at home. I was, to the point that I was exhausted. I had a knee manipulation done in July because of scar tissue. I went from 91 degrees (at 6 weeks after surgery ) to 121 dogs after I was done with PT---in September. So my recovery was very slow, but I really could not bend that leg. Sometimes I wonder if I did the right thing--when I could have had a second opinion, for a torn mesnicus. Maybe the knee implant was not really what I needed done. But I can't. change this now, and I have to walk more confidently and without that limp. Thanks again.

    Dear @amyr3285, thank you for sharing this. I can see based on what you shared that recovery is slower than what I usually see but everyone is different. Everyone's body heals differently. Other medical conditions affect this as well. The positive there is you eventually got to 121 deg and that is great. Aside from that, you have to continue working on your strength and balance to have a chance of getting rid of the limp and to feel safe when walking. I wish you the best.🙏

    Good question @glen1890. I'm sorry to hear this. Without evaluating you it is more difficult to determine the exact cause. There are a few common reasons you are still walking with a limp. 1. You may and extension lag, 2. your quads may be weak, 3. your hamstrings may not be strong enough to stabilize your knee, 4. your hip abductors may be weak, 5. your balance and coordination may not be good. I'm sorry to hear this @srabastisinha5994. It is hard to accurately say why. The most common reasons can be because of weakness on your leg muscles and stiffness on you knee. Either one or both can make it difficult to walk when you get up from sitting. Try this: move you leg (bend and extend your knee before getting up) this will help if the problem is stiffness. And work on strengthening your quads and hamstrings. You can check my channel for videos on how to do that. Hope this helps.🙏

  • @restorepluspt

    @restorepluspt

    10 ай бұрын

    I am not to sure about the question @jackwillome2397. If you just had a knee replacement and have burning sensation around the knee, usually it is because of either the inflammation from the surgery or the from the nerves that were cut during the surgery. Both of them are unavoidable. More often the burning sensation is because of the nerve. For that I suggest doing a desensitization technique which is to rub the area for 5 minutes several times a day. Start with something soft then gradually progress to rougher textures as the burning sensation gets less. Hope this helps.🙏

    Dear Achla, I didn't quite understand your question. Can you describe it more? If it is something in the back of the knee that is stopping you from walking, it most of the time is an inflammation of the baker's cyst. The cyst gets bigger and it prevents you from bending the knee effectively thus affecting your walking. If this is the case, I suggest icing the back of the knee to see if the inflammation will go down. Taking anti-inflammatories may also help if needed.

    Good question @jagroophundal7021. In my opinion, walking alone is not enough to build strength and improve range of motion. Walking is an efficient way of locomotion. It requires a small amount of strength and range. You need to do more to get the body to get stronger and more flexible. Once you start exercising and getting more strength, flexibility and balance, you will get more confident. Expect the swelling for a while. That takes more time to go away. I hope this helps.🙏

    Good question @reenakblas2307. At 6 weeks post-TKR, you expect swelling to occur after walking. This is part of the recovery process.. The swelling persists sometimes up to a year after surgery. Continue icing and elevating the leg as these helps with the swelling. As for the limping, you have to check if you have full extension and at least 90 deg flexion, and have good strength in your quads, hamstrings and hip abductors and good balance on 1 leg. If some of them are lacking, you will more likely have a limp. I hope these help. 🙏

    I'm sorry to hear this Renee. Did the PT work on the thigh and hip muscles on that leg? If your leg does not feel strong, most likely it's not. My recommendation is to progress on strengthening exercises on the leg- hip, knee and even ankle muscles. I am not sure how much of this was done in PT. Aside from the strength, you have to work on balance exercises and get that leg trusting itself again. There is a neuromuscular component to this as well other than just strengthening part. I hope this can lead you in the right direction.

    How long do the stiffness stay

  • @restorepluspt

    @restorepluspt

    Жыл бұрын

    Good question Aurea. It really depends on several factors: how your body heals, how much scar your body forms, how much you exercise and stretch the knee. Everyone is different and there is not definite timeline for this. What I see is the more you exercise, the faster you will recover your range and the faster the stiffness will go away. It can be a few weeks, a few months or in some cases, it never goes away.

    I'm sorry to hear this Rebecca. You can modify these exercises and use them with a walker so you can have as much or as little support as you need. The same basic principles still apply even to your condition. Hope this help. Wish you the best.🙏

    Good question @emeldabcastillo1436. If it is a knee replacement, I recommend starting physical therapy ASAP. If there are no complications after knee replacement, you can start physical therapy in the next few days. Hope this helps.

    I had a TKR in August and unfortunately sustained a compound femur fracture (in less than 2 weeks--no fall). My recovery is coming along. Using a cane and walking in house without cane for most of the time. I go to gym 3 or 4 times a week, have a trainer and adding weights based on what the PT has shared. I still go to PT twice a week. And I am on a stationary bike 5 times a week for 30 minutes. Want to get rid of my limp when I walk without the cane. I have been practicing standing on one leg for some time but it continues to be a problem. without holding onto something. I often describe that after I do these Stans my leg feels like concrete. I have recently added more stretches for hip flexons. Any suggestions or reasons why it continues to be hard?

    I'm sorry to hear that you had the fracture on top of the TKR. Which part of the leg feels like concrete? Sometimes this happens when the muscle is in spasm. Do you get soft tissue work during PT? Or did your PT teach you how to do it yourself? I suggest trying this and see if it helps.🙏

    Thanks. I will share with PT. It is the mid to upper thigh. It now I am also going to pay more attention to exactly where it is coming from.

    @@patricecherico6203 you're welcome. Mid to upper thigh sounds like you can benefit from soft tissue work on the thigh. Your PT can also show you how to do that on your own using a foam roller or a rolling pin. I wish you the best.

    Good question @sushmitachhetrii. Since you are allowed full weightbearing already, you can start doing these exercises. Start easy and progress gradually. Make sure to stop and consult your doctor or physical therapist if you experience increase in pain. Wish you the best.🙏
