    Hello. I appreciate this video is a year old but I’d really like a structured program I can follow. I had a revision knee replacement in January (my original one 10 years in NZ was not good and surgeon here in France the prosthesis was the wrong size and patella 4cm too low). I am 72. I did well at first but then got covid followed by 2 soft tissue infections. I feel I have gone backwards in my recovery. I stopped going to physio because it hurt too much. I have good ROM (0 to 120) but my knee is stiff, especially when I get up but is ok once I start moving. I can ride my bike. But I can’t walk more than few hundred metres without experiencing pain and needing to be careful not to limp. I look forward to hearing from you if I’m not too late

  • @restorepluspt
    @restoreplusptКүн бұрын

    I'm sorry to hear about your experience @Barbara-ex3ge. I understand your situation. The good thing is that you have good ROM. 0-120 is very good. Keep up with your flexion and extension stretch to maintain this. The stiffness when you get up is common in your situation. Mostly it's the scar tissue around the area. My suggestion is move your knee every 15 minutes to prevent this from happening. Movement is key that is why you feel better when you start moving. So incorporate that when you are sitting. The pain you have when you walk a few hundred meters (which is not a long distance) is most probably due to inflammation. I recommend icing your knee or even taking some OTC to help you get that inflammation down. Also do strengthening exercises to help you walk further. You can look at my channel for various exercises that can help you. If you need specific instructions tailored for your condition, let me know and we can set something up. I hope this helps.

    I'm sorry to hear this @hyannamusic. Sometimes it does happen that the symptoms you feel are not very specific. In this situation, I suggest ruling out the more serious problem which in this case is the kidney issue. I suggest checking with your doctor for further evaluation and testing to rule that out. I wish you the best.🙏

    Is it possible to get back to this movement after healing and strengthening (no surgery)? This movement is a part of the overhead smash for many racket sports so wanted to see if I cannot do this ever again

  • @restorepluspt
    @restorepluspt2 күн бұрын

    Good question @kabnis2022. Yes it is possible depending on the severity of your injury. If you dislocated it once, with proper strengthening, the chances of you getting back to doing overhead smash is high. If it is repeated dislocations already, it is still possible but the chances goes down. Check out the video I created for the exercises on how to prevent shoulder dislocation. I hope this helps.🙏

    Hi, I'm 47 and 26 days after TKR, I slept on my back and occasionally with a pillow under my knee at nighttime but not during the day when I slept, I was also able to do various exercises quite early on, my issue is that I am unable to bend my leg to 90° and that is hindering my walking, what ever I try I am physically unable to bend this leg further. I must say due to communication issues I have also not had any physio at all.

I have had a very tender back, and was scared I may throw it out at work since my job is very physical. My dad suggested icy hot lidocaine patches and a heating pad. Every night after I shower, I used the heating pad, then before bed apply the patch. It’s been slowly nursing the pain, but tonight I almost decided to throw my heating pad over my back (with the patch on) while I went to sleep. You saved me from waking up with terrible burns. I'm 4 1/2 weeks post op from left TKR and I can say that everything he recommends in this video is working and has been necessary for me, with regards to ice. Once I do each set of physio exercises directed by the clinic, for 3x day, and particularly when I walk about 2 blocks now, the back and front of my knee is swollen and very achy/ painful, when I stop. So, back to my couch, with a front and back ice knee wrap, for about 10-15r minutes and it helps tremendously. I can see and feel the difference. I am also not needing to take any pills thru the day, finally, with this routine. Happy about that because first 2 weeks my stomach was a total mess from all the pills! At night still waking up once or twice with "night aches", and taking 1 x strength Tylenol but sleeping quite a bit better since last week. Havent needed specific heat, but warm shower feels relaxing on back of leg and loosens it a bit before actual physio sessions. Definitely, "ice is my friend!" I've also learned what works for me is doing the repetitive, hard exercises in little bits all day now, first some of the stretches before getting out of bed, then squats or knee bends while standing at sink brushing teeth, dishes etc, sitting in chair to watch tv, and even while walking with walker and then cane, I stop and hold onto a lamppost and stretch hams standing etc, or lunge bend on a veranda stair etc so I dont have to do all at once, and its helping because I hate being tied to exercise sessions. Just have to make sure I note which I have done, or need to do, to complete all daily. Hope everyone else finds ways too. Dont give up! Thanks Reggie for ongoing accurate and good advice!

  • @restorepluspt
    @restorepluspt23 күн бұрын

    Good question @trentw6806. In strengthening the muscle, some literature say train until failure but others do not support that. Also, training until failure does not necessarily mean train until it is painful. It is usually more of soreness or a little pain. A lot of pain is not recommended in most situations. Pain is the body's defense mechanism telling you something is wrong. I hope this helps.

    You're welcome @jojolouis. I'm Regie and I'm happy to hear that you find my page helpful. Going backwards is recommended at times. I often recommend going backwards on the bike initially if the patient has limited knee flexion. It is easier going backwards than forwards. I also recommend this for my ACL patients because it gets the hamstring working more. Once you have >90 deg of knee flexion on your TKR and when you want to progress strengthening your leg, I don't recommend pedaling backwards anymore as I find other exercises that can give better results at that stage. I hope this helps.
