👁 About this video : In todays video I give an update on how much it costs to own and maintain a Nissan GTR. This is my 2014 Nissan GTR and I have almost owned it for 3 years now. Put 14,000 miles on it so far and to be honest, it is nothing special to maintain. I was actually shocked at the Nissan dealer only quoting $150 for an oil change! I figured it'd be a ton more! However looks like Nissan dealer will use the wrong oil for the GTR! The engine is designed for 0w40 oil and while it'd work fine, the 5w30 Nissan wants to use isnt ideal.
So overall I've done 4 oil changes at around $30-$40 each including the K&N filter. Every 35k miles the GTR need the transmission and differential oil changed. Thats about $300-$500 depending on DIY or a shop. And that all Ive had to do! Breaks will be about $2k when I need new rotors. But I don't see needing them any time soon. So owning a Nissan GTR is actually very doable and nothing to break the bank!

    Just had my first “Toyota Care” oil change on my Supra. It was free of course, however the charge on the receipt showed 110.00, which was lower than expected. However, I would have expected 250.00 or so for the gt-r. Just had the oil changed on my 2015 X5M, the cost was around 210.00. Gt-R change seems dirt cheap to me.

    Wow, so the Supra would cost $110 for Toyota to do it after Toyota Care expires? Seems like a lot lol. I was really expecting the GTR to be crazy since others have told me $800 for a trans flush, and other crazy things. They charged me $300 for an alignment when a performance shop did it for $80

    Bros FOURR Speed Lol Funny story, I looked at the receipt for the oil change and the total charge for the oil was 27.00. The notes of the receipt said, 0W-20 bulk synthetic.” I called them to verify the correct oil was used as the GR Supra oil is about 20.00 a qt. After a brief discussion we ended the conversation with me saying I was going to contact Toyota corporate and the manager saying, “I assure you, we put the correct API oil.” I was typing an email to the dealership with pictures of the manual that state, “Up to 1 qt of API can be used, if C5 oil is not available.” They called me back, apologized and now are ordering the correct oil. Lol So yes, my receipt was 110.00, but it will be about double that with the correct oil.

    335i101 how often do you normally change oil on the Supra?

  • @335i101

    @335i101

    3 жыл бұрын

    Benz Uy I changed originally at 3k (I posted a diy on SupraMKV forums), that was fall of last year. Car indicated it was due for its 1yr/10k service (which is free), so I took it to the dealer for that. They changed the oil and the car was at 4.2k. Toyota/BMW recommend 10k intervals, I would not do that unless you are all highway miles and you the oil is less than a year old. If you do wait that long swap the filter at 5k. I am not expert, but am a diy car enthusiast, the Supra is my 31st ride. Currently I have a X5M, G500 and Supra. I change my oil at a minimum of once a year or 5k miles, whichever comes first. (Using fully synthetic oil) I have a few cars and don’t put on a lot of miles, so for me it is typically once a year, right before winter. In Spring I typically replace the oil filter, but not the oil. It is easy, cheap, and will only help.

    Hey Brian, if you have asked me a year ago about letting someone else change my oil changed I would’ve said no way as I run a small business and do all the maintenance myself and have always change my oil in all my car since day one but all that changed when I bought a new truck and they gave me a complementary free first oil change. I was very impressed with the dealership the way I was treated and the service they provided also factoring that the truck takes 8 quarts and a good oil filter depending on how you buy it it can cost anywhere between $50 and $60. The dealer charges $60 and they also include tire rotation which also includes setting the TPS so as long as the dealer is competent and trustworthy it’s a no brainer but in your case it’s definitely a no brainer to do it yourself. A tip on changing the oil what I have always done after the oil is drained put the new filter on have the drain plug ready to install quickly dump about a third of a quart of oil perhaps that leftover quarter quart will do then quickly get under the car watch The last bit of dirty oil get pushed out by the new oil as soon as it runs clear put the drain plug-in and you’re good to go. Depending on the engine you might be surprised as how much dirty oil still remains in the Engine if very little dirty oil comes out then this isn’t necessary and you don’t have to do this but if a lot comes out it’s well worth it plus you will only waste a half an ounce of new oil if that while doing this, if you’re going to change the oil you might as well change all the oil and you’re already messy so a little oil on your fingers is no big deal give it a try the next time or the next car you do you might be surprised stay safe👍

    Yeah at that price I'd have someone do it! That was similar on my bothers Tacoma. It would have been $60 with oil and a filter. And Toyota charged $60 for it done. So he had them do it while he filmed a Toyota lol. I've heard about that to drain out extra old oil. Good tips man!

I went with OEM filter $14 at the dealer. - Previous Non Nissan dealer- did not bother take the filter off. They spilled oil all over the undertray- as they just drained the oil and oil plastic cap, was missing. So had to order one. This is why I don't trust the dealers. :)

    You paid $40 at Walmart, you probably make $150-200 an hr... so it takes you 30 minutes to change the oil, and 30 minutes to go to Walmart to buy. That’s like $200 oil change... $100 at Nissan isn’t bad. Thought it’d be $250-300

    Great logic factoring in opportunity cost! However I’m not even remotely close to earning $150-$200 per hour 😅. And the time to get the oil doesn’t have to be factored in since I can pick it up when I buy groceries. So for me it’s well worth saving $130 by spending my time to do it myself. 30 mins of my time unfortunately is not worth $130 😢. And it gives me the chance to have fun working on my car (priceless joy), have everything I purchased to make this video a deductible business expense, and potentially earn a few bucks by posting this video. So The opportunity cost of not doing it myself is actually where I’d lose out on a few hundred dollars 🤓

    Well I've had this car for 4 years now and do an annual oil change. Costs me about $40 to do myself. At 35k miles I had the trans/diff done. $400. That's all I've spent. So far this has been nothing to maintain to be honest. I won't count tires because they cost the same for any sportscar. But thats $1,500 and mine last about 4 years a set.. When I hit 70K I'll have to do the trans and diffs agin. So that'll be another $400. So I havent even spend $1k in maintenance and I've never had an issue. If you let Nissan work on your car they'll charge you 10X more then what it will cost doing it yourself ;)

    Oh sure, Typical dealership for you. Its cool that you teach people how to do a lot of this stuff themselves! Currently my biggest issue with owning a GTR is people are hell bent on destroying the car. Its been hit twice. This comes after breaking an CV Axle running over a tool someone dropped on the highway. Switching lanes and didn't see it until it was too late. I think the biggest question people need to ask themselves when it comes to owning a GTR is can you afford to fix it if something breaks? Even if my rear aluminum bumper isn't damaged and I can simply replace the bumper cover myself, its still around $3,000 plus paint. I'm out of pocket around $4k unless I go through my insurance which is still $1,000 deductible. I haven't price my front bumper cover/fender yet, but I'm sure its similar. Anyways, that the stuff people should consider when owning a GTR. That and what to do when its too low for your garage lol $7k later and I can finally park the GTR in my garage! This thing is ridiculous...but its a blast to drive!

    GTR is a supercar no supercars are cheap to maintain. gtr If you use it as a daily it will be expensive but if its a weekend toy it won't be that bad Like all engines Keep to routine maintenance and engines will last along time. Use your car more things will wear out quicker. Buying cars is the easy part maintenence fuel is the killer. In the UK we have yearly Mot inspection for vehicle safety not just emissions . So example if you have a bad the ball joint, worn suspension, corded brake pipe, crack in you windscreen boom car off the road it's illegal until fixed. Caught driving 3 - 6points on your driving licence every one has 12 point limit reach 12 boom banned for a year very strict rules for driving here. And super expensive 40% tax on fuel

  • @BrosFOURRSpeed

    This is honestly no different than my 370Z, it's been very cheap to maintain and I drive it all the time! People has a misconception with "supercars" and maintenance. Even my brothers R8 cost less than $200 for the year, an oil change once a year. We have the same yearly inspections too and if something isn't correct you won't pass. But this hasn't cost me hardly anything to keep on the road which I love!
