OCEAN EYES- BILLIE

I would strongly recommend the entire Billie Eilish rabbit hole! A few things to know about her: * She turned 21 in December 2022. * Her last name is pronounced EYE-lish. Everyone struggles with that in the beginning. * She writes all her music with her brother Finneas who is her producer. (He makes his own music as well, and does production for many other artists too.) * They recorded her EP and first studio album in her brother’s bedroom in their childhood home. They both have their own houses now and they record in her brother’s home studio. * Several years ago Billie started directing all her own videos. She didn’t direct this one as it was early in her career, but she knew exactly how she wanted it to look, colors, camera angles, etc. * She and her brother have won 7 Grammy Awards, 2 Brit Awards, an Oscar (for the James Bond theme song No Time To Die, for the 007 movie of the same name), and numerous other awards. Enjoy!!

Any live performance by her is worth it. Billie and her brother are amazingly talented. Her voice is so precious and angelic. A rabbit hole WELL worth going down. Her debut hit, Ocean Eyes, hit SoundCloud when she was all of 14. Her brother told her “I’m going to make you the biggest pop star in the world.” And he did exactly that.

She’s learned to lose, he can’t afford to.. The drink symbolizes a toxic relationship that she willingly jumps into. She hesitated at first..thought about it..but took it in anyway. The idea for this video came from a drawing that was given to Billie by a fan. A drawing of Billie crying dark liquid. The rest is history. This video dropped 2 months before her 16th birthday.

My assumption has been that she's drinking down the lies she's told herself to keep the relationship going. The lies transform into tears as she begs the person to go away because she doesn't have the strength to let go on her own. Don't know at the end if she's letting go of all the lies or has been consumed by them.

She’s amazing! People say she whispers and doesn’t sing…try singing that slow and quirky and holding those notes! No auto tune, no loud beats in the background hiding your voice, etc. She’s so good!!!

subbed for more billie!! her first ever single and song that essentially began her career is the song 'ocean eyes' that she recorded and released at 13 years of age. y'all can check that one out. if you're interested in her lyricism, or songs similar to this one, I'd recommend the songs 'everything I wanted', 'your power', 'happier than ever' and 'xanny'. ('your power' is very lyric-heavy and contains pretty heavy themes, though all the ones I listed are deep in their own right). if you're more interested in seeing her shine vocally, I'd recommend live performances such as the 'happier than ever' performance at the Grammys, 'no time to die' at the 2022 oscars, 'when the party's over' on howard stern, and 'getting older' in the live lounge. if you want to just enjoy yourself and watch a crazy, cool music video (shining creativity-wise) I'd opt for 'happier than ever', 'bury a friend', 'NDA' and 'all the good girls go to hell' (ideally bury a friend and all the good girls go to hell watched in that order for continuity)

Great reaction! You should start at the beginning with “Ocean eyes” which is what started her career. She was 13 years old when it went viral. The video was a birthday gift and was made the day after her 14th birthday. Her name is pronounced….Eye lish. She writes all her own music with her brother Finneas. He is in almost all her performances and sings back up. He also produces her music and produces for other singers. They both have won Grammy, golden globe, Oscar and many other awards. Finneas also performs his own music. He is 4 years older than Billie. But Billie’s music is his top priority. She can sing just about anything.

Billie's songs are quite different from one another. For her album "When we all fall asleep, where do we go?", Billie wanted to write songs that were diverse enough that 14 different people could listen to the album- and each person would like at least one song. 'Bad Guy' has a very unique sound- and the video is funny. 'Happier than Ever'- also super unique; I have not heard anyone do what she does in this song (definitely worth checking out). 'Your power'- acoustic guitar, flute- gorgeous video and the huge snake in it is real. Also- Billie directs all of her own videos, and she was 17 when this song (When the Party's Over) was released. Crazy. Genius.

This probably wasn't the best song to introduce Billie Eilish. Oh it's a great song but if it were maybe the 3rd or 4th song you heard by her that would have been better. A song like Bury A Friend, Bad Guy, All The Good Girls Go To Hell... would have drawn you in better. I hope you take the journey that is Billie Eilish, she's a multifaceted artist. She will intrigue you and amaze you. Y'all did get it though which is terrific.
