What Just Happened?! | First Time Reaction | Billie Eilish- When The Party’s Over

Музыка

The lyrics were heavy and her voice was amazing but I won’t lie, the video was tripping me out. There has to be meaning behind this. Almost as if she was crying tears of ink. I need to rewatch this 100%

The black liquid is all real. She drank liquid with activated black charcoal in it and used that same liquid with attached tubes to her eyes to simulate tears. So all they did was edit out the tubes. She actually had that charcoal liquid in her eyes and everything to represent the pain behind the cause of her tears. In an interview she talked about how it was VERY irritating to her eyes but that's what she wanted so she did it. Billie is amazing ❤️ Thank you for checking her out

I always see the liquid in the video is her taking in the poison of their relationship until it just overflows from her completely. They had tubes near her eyes that pumped the fluid by her eyes, but it did get into her eyes too. She said it was miserable. She and her brother write all their songs, and the lyrics are always amazing. You should check out Listen Before I Go. There's no official video for it, but it's haunting. She and Finneas (her brother) also wrote the theme song for the last Bond film, No Time to Die. Her Live at the Brit Awards is the best version, I think of that song. And yes, Billie is her own genre I think. :D

I love the symbolism in this video as it relates to the lyrics. The relationship is toxic and she ingests it all until it's literally pouring out of her and hurting her from the inside out. She's a genius.

When Billie was young she saw and listened to the Norwegian artist AURORA perform Runaway (official video) and she thought: This is what I want to do. Aurora is a self taught singer songwriter that started to write very young (but never had a dream to be an artist, she wrote just for herself). Her writing is so deep and often dark. She sings like an angle. Maybe you should want to check her out?

My Future is one of her songs that is more uplifting than sad, its a really cool song. As far as the ink, she had tubes taped to her face that were removed in post, but that was real liquid pouring down her face. As for other songs, My Strange Addiction, Wish You Were Gay, ilomilo, I love you, Before I Go... Basically the whole When We Fall Asleep Where Do We Go album is amazing. Everything I Wanted is another real popular one that is really good. One that is underrated in my opinion is Come Out and Play.

The best way to learn her story and how they do her music and see how this video was made (all are her own concepts from start to finish…lyrics and videos) her documentary (on Apple TV or maybe Disney plus I can’t remember) was what finally turned me on to her and gained my full respect as I am older…also her appearance on David letterman’s new show on Netflix I believe….which is easier to find….as a person who is in the business, how they do what they do will blow your mind. Worth it even in your free time.

No, you are actually kinda right. It's the emotionality of her performance that IS the most profound part of any Billie song. (Ring any bells? Ren x Chinchilla, anyone?) You have *that* look that everyone gets after watching this MV for the first time. I can see it! lol. Such a shame you had your eyes closed for the part towards the end when she gets some of the black liquid (representing darkness, toxicity) in her mouth and she spits it out. It's just desperate and you feel it. Anyway, cheers. I think you'd like the music videos to the singles NDA and Xanny. I'd make one or both of those your next venture. Cheers! P.S. Billie suffered from depression for years which gives most of her music a really dark, raw, honest edge. One of her older songs is actually a suicide note "Listen Before I Go". She's playing it live on piano at the age of 17 in this clip. Ugh: kzread.info/dash/bejne/e5lmuthrlKeXcso.html

All are great suggestions; "I love you" at the Greek Theatre is very moving - the young girl who is captivated - what a memory for her, and as always Finneas's harmonizing vocals are super! "idontwannabeyouanymore" is close to being my favorite of all of them; I love Billie crooning like "Halley's Comet" and the acoustic MAHOGANY session of "Copycat" - but I'm biased; I truly believe Billie is a generational talent/artist. I hope she stays true to her authentic self - in some ways, I think she may be searching somewhat for that right now, based on interviews - Conan O'Brien and 6yr. VF. P.S. Xanny is awesome, but so many are!

"Call me friend but keep me closer" followed by the distorted call me back, I think it's one of the best lines in all her songs. You know when you're finally away from that toxic person and trying to heal and move on with your life, but they keep randomly calling/texting making it impossible to fully move on. She takes that 1 little sip and then it's over-she drinks it all and the cycle starts again. This one's painfully honest.

I've really been following Billie for a while and love her music and videos. After her first couple videos, she took control of directing, creating the videos herself. (There is a video I've seen of the "making of" this video, not sure if it was on the Billie Eilish special on Apple TV or somewhere else.) It was all practical effects.

  • @nomadine85
    @nomadine85 Жыл бұрын

One of my favourite aspects about this song lyrically is how she lulls the words “lie and say I like it like that like it like that” it’s almost like a tongue twister, but in such a beautifully sounding way, that is also meaningful. In general you get those clever vowel sounds within the word choices they make that also tie in with the range and emotions they’re going for. Like, “dOn’t yOu knOw I’m nO gOOd fOr yOu, I’ve lEArned tO lOse, yOu can’t affOrd tO” as she climbs up the scale, the Os become wider or sharper interspersed with more consonants and alternative vowels in between them. You can literally feel the gradual fade of the depth and darkness of the Os within the structure of the words and it even matches up with the shape of the mouth one needs to make to get a better sound from your vocal chords within that range. And then it just casually also is a genuine lyric that is meaningful and tells a story. Not to mention the dynamics of her voice that also undermine these choices. And I haven’t even started to talk about her visuals in combination with the meaning and her subtly increasing physicality in the performance.

Billie received a picture from a fan, of exactly this image...the crying black tears. She was so enthralled with the look, so she decided she needed to do a video based on it. All the 'effects' in the video were practical effects, like has been mentioned. She wrote and produced the video. Drew exact storyboards of how she wanted the whole video to go. Her director basically had no creative input. His job was to make the video happen EXACTLY how Billie wanted it. If you look around, there is a video of how the whole thing was made. As has been said, the ONLY CG effect was deleting the tubes running from under her hair to the corners of her eyes that carried the black liquid for her tears. Billie was amazing on this album. It's so dark, and full of fear, pain, anguish and uncertainty, as well as false bravado and cold anger at negative people. (Bad Guy and You Should See Me In A Crown)... Just a fantastic album.

I'm a 69 yr old admirer of Billie and Finneas's Music - Billie [B.D. 12/18/2001 - 21 as of December 2022] performed this live (at 16) on Jan 30, 2018. FInneas [B.D. 7/30/1997 - 25 until this coming July - Billie's sophomore album "Happier Than Ever" was released on Finneas's B.D.; her debut album "When We All Fall Asleep Where Do We Go" was released on her Mom's B.D. on March 29, 2019 - the song "Bad Guy" is the beat you recall from the radio] Finneas was the sole songwriter for this song and also the one that began everything for Billie "OCEAN EYES" (age 13, and 14 with the music video); Finneas also was the sole writer for "My Strange Addiction", "6 Feet Under" and "Watch". Except for "Lovely" with Khalid [over 1B viewsj] and "&Burn" with Vince Staples and the song "Bored" for the TV Show "13 Reasons Why" are the only 3 songs they have collaborated on - otherwise everything until now is just Billie and Finneas. I heard Billie live in St. Paul, MN on March 15 2022 - my first concert in over 40 years and Billie was/is amazing. There are many live concerts that I could recommend to you, but I'll recommend "NO TIME TO DIE" - the Grammy and Oscar winning song for the James Bond 25th movie and last one with Daniel Craig - Billie wrote this (with FINNEAS) at 17, the youngest Bond songwriter ever and the youngest Academy Award winner in the 21st century. The live February 18, 2020 is perhaps the favorite [on the BillieEilishVEVO channel] but the live performance at the Oscars Sunday March 27, 2022 is also very good, but the evening of course, was overshadowed by the "Slap" seen round the world. Billie experiences synethesia (like Jimi Hendrix and others) so she sees her music visually immediately and we who follow her know that's how her brain works- but I believe that as wonderful as the videos are they can be distracting from the music. A great example of this is "You should see me in a crown" - I like the video but reactors with arachnophobia (no joke) can hardly take it. And the title is inspired by the U.K's Sherlock HOlmes and Holmes's mortal enemy James Moriarty who says at one point "you should see in a crown" - and nobody I've seen makes the connection between Female Spiders (in some species like the "Black Widow" who cannabalize the males after sex]. The one video which - I believe - truly supplements the lyrics is "HOSTAGE" - if you ever watch it, remember its about toxic obsession - oh, and P.S. Bellyache (15 yr. old Billie) is about teenage psychopath. I wished there was some way to reward for you reading all this if you do!

She and her brother write and produce incredible music but the music videos are all her - just astonishing creative talent. There’s a documentary on Apple TV that shows her planning out this video and after it was filmed she was like, “I’m directing all of my own music videos from now on!” She was 15 at the time. Total clarity of vision. Fantastic teenage attitude lol. She’s more grown up now but I love that she showed that part of her life to us.

I also always switch on subtitles for the lyrics, or you could have an additional section at the end when you specifically look up the lyrics and discuss them separately additionally. Bury a friend is an amazing song, as is all the good girls go to hell. However visually all the good girls go to hell has a scene that starts from one in bury a friend, so its worth watching them in the right order (Bury, then good girls). Possibly do both at the same time, or following each other at least!

I found Billie when I was reading Elizabeth Hunters book about Tenzin and Ben... Tenzin bringing a very old vampire... such a good read ... very fitting for this song. WOW

Pleaseeeeeeeee do a reaction to her albums. The first one “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” And THEN listen to her album “Happier Than Ever”. I recommend finding out which ones have videos and reacting to the videos after you’ve heard the song for the first time. It makes it so much better!❤

A good start for Billie would be the song that "made" her, OCEAN EYES. Then I would check out at least a couple from her EP, like BELLYACHE and HOSTAGE. She also did an amazing collab with Khalid, LOVELY. Then her debut album, I LOVE YOU (my favorite song of hers), ILOMILO, BURY A FRIEND, and definitely LISTEN BEFORE I GO. Then from her second album you checked out the title track, but I'd recommend NDA, YOUR POWER, and GETTING OLDER. Also, check out EVERYTHING I WANTED and NO TIME TO DIE (live from the Brit Awards). That's definitely a good start. But I would recommend checking everything out.

It's also worth noting that she writes all her music with her brother, and producer, Finneas. She also directs most of her music videos, especially the latter ones. You noticed the theme of relationships, and she definitely got out of a toxic one right before her 2nd album came out. And as she is so young, currently 21, it's amazing how down to earth and grounded she is. Definitely someone worth her weight in salt.

I you haven't done these already, they are "incredible" to put it lightly: No Time to Die (Bond film) and live performance of Happier Than Ever at 64th Grammies. She has also done a lot of interviews so it's not difficult to catch up on her life story.

Billie Eilish had a BBC She did a rendition of Michael Jackson’s BAD. Very bluesy excellent excellent did some major justice to Michael Jackson song. She also did another one called “End of the World” she was not the writer of the song. I looked up, who wrote the song and listen to his music video, and rendition of the song it didn’t sound like the same song. This is my opinion. If you want to hear, exceptional, singing, listen to these two songs. By Billie Eilish/ Phineas O’Connell. I believe they said she was 15 or 16 years old when she sang the songs. The emotion she gives to the lyrics is next level. This is my opinion, and I’m 53 years old. Thank you for more Billie Eilish Contant.

All of Billie’s lyrics are out of this world. She is so young, and her lyrics defy her years. I suggest some of her early work - Hostage, Idontwannabeyouanymore, Everything I wanted. Also more recently Lost Cause and The 30th

Two ways to learn more about her background that I think would be super helpful... The documentary, the world's a little blurry, aired on Apple TV but I believe it's available on KZread now. Also, the vanity Fair interviews they do each year with her. Started when she was I believe 15 or 16. Same day every year they do an schedule an interview with her. They ask the same questions and add different ones as well.
