That pianist is her brother, Finneas! And she’s amazing!! She’s been making music as Billie Eilish since she was 13 and her voice has always been insanely good!

A true "old soul" - when she sings "Listen before I go" at the Steve Jobs theater, it's golden

When she says "call me friend but keep me closer" ive always thought it was a nod to "keep your friends close, and your enemies closer"

Billie has an amazing voice. Soft and breathy yet very jazzy. It really shows in her live and especially acoustic performances. Her music actually is often heavy production based but she and her brother (they make music together) say that a good song should be able to be sung acoustic and sound good, which is why their acoustic performances are always great. I'd love to see you react to "Listen Before I Go" by her Live at the Steve Jobs Theater

Another interesting demonstration of Billies range is the Bond movie theme she did No Time To Die.

Nice reaction. My personal faves from Billie are these live in studio performances with her brother where she really inhabits her songs. Her BBC1 covers of The End of the World and MJ's Bad are particular stand outs.

Billie's so transparently vulnerable when she sings, she reaches into my chest and gives my heart a squeeze.

Billie has some great songs and that breathy tonality is so distinct. A few others to check could be "See Me In A Crown", and I'd recommend the music video for that one (you'll see why), or "Everything I Wanted". Her brother Finneas, on the piano/harmonies, also has a solo career and is worth a watch too.

Finneas, her brother, wrote the lyrics - the thumbnail, probably not your doing, was "SHE CAN SING?" as if it was a question - 7 Grammys, an Oscar, and all that before 21 - the youngest to ever write and sing a James Bond theme song [with Finneas, for which they got an Academy Award - the youngest in the 21st Century to win an Oscar. Billie not only can sing - she is a wonder! The other song was "Happier Than Ever" - the biggest hit from her "Happier Than Ever" sophomore album and "Bad Guy" was from her debut album - WWAFAWDWG [guess!] - "When We All Fall Asleep Where Do We Go", but her EP "Don't Smile At Me" is also great - the songs, "Ocean Eyes" (her break out hit written by Finneas) and "idontwannabeyouanymore" [find another song by a 15 year old which will last like this one] and "Copycat" [both the studio version and the MAHOGANY session versions are wonderful"; "My Boy" from "Don't Smile at Me" might be the only song (that I'm aware of) which references "split ends" in a way that makes great sense. Finneas also wrote "Watch", "Six Feet Under" and "My Strange Addiction".

When the party’s over = a secret relationship. He only calls her to come over after everyone has left the party and no one is around to see them together. She’s no good for him because it would cause him problems if people knew they were seeing each other. She comes every time he calls but hates that it has to be a secret. But because she loves him, she lies to herself and tells herself that she likes it this way. It kills her when they have to say goodbye and she has to go home and be lonely… so much so that she thinks that maybe it would hurt less if they didn’t see each other at all. But she knows she’s not strong enough to not answer when he calls so she asks him to make it easy on her by not calling at all because not seeing him is the only way she can let him go.

PLEASE more Billie! I'll be completely honest, when she first started getting big in the music scene, I disliked her strictly principle, thinking she was just like every other generic pop singer that they try and push on people, but who don't have any actual talent, and boy was I WRONG. About 2 years into her career I finally sat down with some headphones and listened to her album with an open mind, and haven't looked back since. Then I watched her live, and realized that holy sh*t, she has an INCREDIBLE voice, not simply average at all. It all started with her song Ocean Eyes. It's been pretty cool watching her grow up and mature into her life and music, and with her brother Fineas right along with her (the guy playing piano) helping with song writing, production, accompaniment etc, she's grown into a hell of an artist. I HIGHLY recommend diving deeper into her discography, starting with Ocean Eyes, which is what put her on the map. Edit- if you watch "You Should See me in a Crown", make sure to do the actual music video for it. You will see why lol.

Sure this has been covered but "the pianist" isn't just some random blote that she taught to play a couple chords and harmonize with. His name is Finneas and has been nominated for 13 Grammys having won 8 of them at the young age of 26. And yes he and she can both sing their asses off and obviously devote a lot of time to their craft.

Wonderful, many thanks! I don't say this lightly, but I honestly believe the way that Billie's voice is evolving and maturing and developing, she will go down as one of the great jazz vocalists of our time, certainly in the same bracket as Billie Holliday, Etta James and all those greats. She might be there already. And she's way more versatile than they are! She was a tired/grumpy 17 year old in the Stern clip and it was still great. She's 21 now. If you have 2 mins to spare, please look at this iPhone clip from 2022 of Billie doing a live cover of Fever by Peggy Lee - with a full jazz ensemble - and tell me I'm not wrong! Tell me! Thanks my friend! kzread.info/dash/bejne/aYlkt9dqc72XpbQ.html

I interpreted this song more of having feelings for someone but they are leading you on. Keep calling you friend but giving mixed signals. They only want to be “with” you when the party is over and no one is around to know about it. And she is so infatuated that she gets drawn it but is saying please stop and just let me go! Stop playing with my feelings!
