One way to be able to make more predictions is, hunt solo and leave your palico behind. If you are the only target and you know all of the monsters movements, then you can more accurately execute predictive maneuvers. I'm really excited to see him play this, it's one of my all-time favorite games. I hope he gives some other weapons a try at some point.

Meh it gives way too mixed results for me. I stopped using it after many many attempts. It has a large chance to flinch the monster which would seem to be good, but that usually means the mob is too far away to TCS as a result of the flinch. Further it will flinch a monster when it is already downed so you cant use it to short cancel into TCS when the monster is already on the floor without risking whiffing the TCS. Ultimately it doesn’t really fit with the only consistent GS play, which is incapacitate the monster with trips, flinches, status effects, claggers, traps, environmental hazards, etc then short cancel into TCS over and over again until the monster is dead, so I never really use it.

We never got around to playing it and I didn't want to get far ahead of him. Now he was watching your videos on breaks at work and he brought it up so we both reinstalled and I'm doing iceborne for the first time. Still a fantastic game. The old ones didn't click being on handheld, world is the first one that grabbed me and had me sinking hundreds of hours. I can't really explain why but the game is very enjoyable to watch someone progress through. I watched ep 1 on second monitor while I grinded a couple other games myself but the next day when I started ep 2 I was so sucked in that I couldn't do anything else while watching and have binged it as main monitor content ever since. Lets be honest. The video is a giant scam. Peak GS play is just get the monster on the floor and short cancel into TCS. Playing like he did is basically the equivalent of rolling a 100 sided die and “winning” when you get 90 or above and “losing” when you get 89 and below. Even if you play for 100s of hours and increase your skills to peak it only means you “win” at 85 and above vs “losing” at 84 and below. GS is just too slow and monsters are too random to do anything more consistent unless you are doing something to hold them in place for long periods of time (ie status effects, environmental traps, regular traps, claggers, trips, etc). Id compare players who main GS who play like this dude to “Win It Big” dedicated casino players. They are in the casino every day and they are always losing money but every now and then they “Win IT BIG” and get a shot of dopamine so they think it was worth all the carts and time spent getting bodied and healing until the stars align just right and they get that big hit on the monster. Hey if thats the kind of play you like more power to you, but LS and hammer do about the same and have far far more consistent gameplay.

@@oriondye3212 well... it wasnt really 10 steps, and he brought non GS tech into vids like head locking elder dragons, or exploiting the free clutch chance when a monster is exhausted. Also, TCGs is its own thing? Basic triangle spammer of step 1 already discovered it. At least it nailed good things like tackle, then slinger combo. Also the "Helicopter". I just wished we focused on things like aiming GS during charge, he did that, but never focused... the side slap, which combos into roll... would be nice. Maybe even useless things like upward slash, so team mates can try uncoordinated mounts. Also charging during jump attack or mount attack.

I guess if you just want to mess around and have fun regardless of if you cart three times and fail the hunt for your friends or not you can do all of the things you mentioned. But if you want to actually beat the monster you wouldn’t do any of that. Aiming GS is only for if you position incorrectly. Which 95% of the time if your not perfectly positioned you are too far away from the monster rather so aiming does literally nothing for you. Most people who have “mastered GS” will not have a problem positioning themselves to land their GS hits straight on so aiming is only really for noobs.

He's getting it! It's so true what he's said about the game looking janky and boring in videos when you've never played it, both when you see pros and noobs. But once you play it yourself, you really understand just how much there is to playing this game that doesn't show in videos, how incredibly satisfying it feels to master it. And that's when you see videos like this and just fully appreciate how deep the combat can get and how insanely talented these people are, and it's so so satisfying to watch people be good at this game when you've played it yourself.

The helicopter slash and slinger combo is pretty neat. One makes you jump way to the side so you have a poor mans fade slash of the long sword, the other allows you to reorient yourself into any direction so after you jumped sideways, you can just do a tcs 90° towards the monster.

If the next hit you do makes the monster look like they ran out of breath, if you grapple hook latch on to them, it extends their stun time. I believe this is a hard refresh on how long the stun lasts too (might even be better to say it resets the stun time AND extends it) Hence why the trick is, you see em look dazed/out of breath, latch on and immediately jump off the monster, then wail on em. It is the weapon with highest difficulty to master and somewhat easy but massive learning curve due to how many combos you can use. Just when I thought I managed to figure out the charge blade and hunt with ease, I learned of new combos to adjust and add to my fights. Even some friends of mine at thousands of hours say that they learned new combos when they thought they mastered the weapon.

I personally like the charge blade more since it is more complex to use, but also dishes out a lot of damage. All weapons require you to know the monsters, but some weapons also require you to know the weapon itself, and great sword is not one of them imo. For new players I would either recommend the long sword or dual blades. Long sword is pretty nice since it also has moves for s (foresight slash and the iceborne Iai slash which just rely on monster knowledge to use right).

@@Voidstroyer for new players i just recommend sas its simple and easy to use...but i just say choose whatever you like they are all easy to use i strongly disagree with what you are saying about the great sword because as seen in this video there is tech on tech. with most weapons position is important, sure, but in gs positioning is everything. because the weapon is so slow its harder to set up predictions and you have to learn monsters entire attack strings and follow ups and have an effective counter for them all while when playing charge blade its easier to compromise its all fun and games to pull off a dunk with a weapon as fast as the monster with a wide hitbox however when you set up a true charge slash before the monster is even on your screen and it hits perfectly. that requires perfect mastery of the game. to master the great sword is to master monster hunter and if you have full mastery of the great sword every other weapon becomes quite easy to play in comparison tldr there is so much room for error in the gs that its not even close comparing it to smth like the charge blade when it comes to skill ceiling. it easily surpasses every other weapon in terms of mastery (in mhw)

Where they've mastered a complete understanding of the monsters to the point where they not only predict the monsters next attack but also know exactly where to stand to avoid the attack and punish the monster at the same time. Not to mention how they can manifest the monster to flinch or topple whenever they need it to, which takes a memorization of how much hits they've done to certain parts.

Some of these "steps" are fine and usable, like for example Asmon literally never used the slinger and there is a lot of high damage traps in the game that can be hit by the slinger ammo for 1000+ DMG, maybe the Helicopter move or the instant Charge..., but everything else is just gambling for a rookie. 99% of the playerbase is doing everything in multiplayer anyway, they never learn any of these moves. Crazy is when you play the same game for 10.000+ hours. Asmon doesn't need to do at least 5 of these steps ever and he is already gambling with charging up 99% of his moves... I was a GS user too and non of these 10 steps show draw attacks, which i used against 90% of the game very successfully. I don't just gamble Charge attacks and wait for a lucky hit, i did precise draw attacks most of the times with ~100% Crit Chance, so this is not even the only playstyle that is possible.

also do some research on mantles and clutch claw , you need info on those 2 things to be a high end player. You can abuse the clutch claw easily in every fight

thats the best part of monster hunter , when u realize that there are other aspects of the game u havent engaged with. In freedom unite if u wave emote at the hot air balloon , they actually will morse code blink u the co-ordinates of the monster-- stuff like that.

That is how I got into monster hunter a few weeks ago. My friends all played it then a steam Christmas sell came and I said aw why the hell not I saw that it took a good amount of hours to complete(It was a personal Christmas gift and I told myself years ago Christmas games have to last all year that's my tradition) then fell in love with how it look and being able to play relax then I made to high rank and saw I had more fun playing the weapons and learning Teq.

to me one thing why the game can be so successful and being replayable is that most of the important parts of the game can be cleared with lower skill level and feel extremely rewarding. And it can also be cleared with higher skill level and also feel extremely rewarding. and theres so many different monsters each with its own unique characteristics and really difficult ones as well that you dont really feel bad or stuck at the game even if you dont clear those.

The only thing more impressive thsn well timed greatsword attacks is a perfectly chained chargeblade combo.
