This Fiat Topolino Zagato Is A Little Jewel
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
“I love the aspect of handmade, I love the aluminum work…” says Scott Gauthier, “I love that every one of them is unique.”
“I’ve really been taken by that,” he adds. Once you hear Gauthier-an avowed fan of Italian coachbuilder Zagato-talk about this particular car, it’s clear this little jewel is something special.
You’re looking at the only known surviving 1949 Fiat Topolino 750 MM by Zagato, one of a handful originally built…and a car that even raced flat-out in period at Italy’s harrowing Mille Miglia road race.
It may be from before his time, but Gauthier knows the car inside out: he’s the one who restored it.
“I’ve always loved working with my hands,” he says, explaining how he eventually found himself years later making his own jewelry. “Restoring cars, I think is one of the joys of owning a car… Because of the world I’m in, nothing really scares us. You just can’t look at it as too serious of a thing,” he says.
“It’s just metal, paint, it’s forming, and it’s fabrication.”
Judging by the numerous awards the car has been honored with since restoration was finished, this rare car will likely survive far into the future thanks to Gauthier’s own two hands.

+bongmistt I haven't found anything on KZread like this channel. It's so exquisite: "of special beauty or charm, or rare and appealing excellence". Lovely. It shows so much that "they" care about automobiles in such a deep and special way. I love it.

Oh, it's failed on numerous occasions before......why expect different here????
That Fiat does not look like any car from 1949 at all. That thing's beautiful. I want one.

Maybe. Except that the Ypsilon looks like shit. This Fiat looks like art on wheels.

+Samuel Chattergoon Not at all. The Ypsilon is a very beautiful car, very original and unique with a very personal design, that elevate the car from the boring alternatives of its segment (apart from Fiat 500 and Mini, being the only other two with a nice design). It's a very nice looking car and has luxury interiors (for his price and segment) and tons of customizations.
Nobody does automotive design like the Italians. Cool car to go with a Cool owner.
Such smooth beautiful lines, the chrome details, the grille A real gem
As a younger goldsmith/ jewelry designer and a car nut, I don't think that this could have been more inspiring to me. Thank you Scott for sharing your story and, in turn, putting my goals back in focus. Sometimes all you need is to see that it can be done. This was just what I needed right now... as I have been feeling a little lost as of late. With a little more bounce in my step, I head back to the bench and continue to try and build my dreams, one ring at a time. Thank you Scott once again!... and if you ever need a CAD guy, maybe we should talk. :-).... Oh, amazing car by the way! I love it!
Of course ! From the very 1st moment .. my feelings said -Jewel ! Never have a seen a more beautiful series of jewel-like aspects.. I give it best finished dash board, steering wheel, knobs that have ever pierced my eye balls ! Thank you for this wonderful story !

Marten Dekker Topolino in Italy IS mickey mouse, I never said it means. I know cause I'm Italian.
nice to see that even though it's the only one known to be left in the world he is still driving it and it's not stuck in a museum.
The grill alone is art..

...capolavoro!!!!!!!!!
This was a wonderful video in your series. 1) The car. Wonderful. Cute. Reminds you of the simplicity of purpose of our cars that too often gets lost beneath the latest gadgets. 2) His perspective: An owner is merely a piece of a car's history. That is part of the power of the Petrolicious series, the profundity that comes from these stories. Thank you!
What a wonderful car ! I'm impressed by the quality of the restauration ! Congratulations !

Best one yet. Great Owner, wonderful experience. Long live the Zagato Topolino.
I like his "Anything could be restored" attitude. Beautiful car and a nice philosophy.
This is another beautiful car in an excellent condition too. I love the landscape as well.
Some of the wisest petrolhead words I've ever heard in a single video, lovely car! Cheers!
beautiful work! Very well done and thanks for showing.
This Channel is so underrated , so glad it's getting more popular
How did I not see this! Not only do I know Scott but I also no that car and have photographed it a few times. Amazing car.
3:48 lancia fulvia zagato near what's probably an alfa romeo giulietta... i literally died in that frame
Stunning in every way.
Man and his machine. Thank you.
Love these Petro guys! I'm I the only one who was taken back by the exhaust note of this car. I was completely surprised and expected something more high pitched!
Elegant design and detailing. Perfecto!
Looks gloriously terrifying to drive. Those tires!! ahhh.
What an amazing little car! Perfect video thank you
Absolutely beautiful little car.
Excellent video…fantastic car and design…art at the top of its game…thanks
lovely little car, and the owner has the right attitude too
It's funny how small the drivers seat is compared to the passenger seat! Amazing car, I have always loved Zagotos and are with out doubt my favorite coach builder. It also looks like he has a lovely museum.
regardless of the negative, it is a beautiful little car. lovingly restored. Lancia made shit boxes as well but when it was right it was very right. same goes for this little car
Funny little car. :) I love how you make the restoration process look so easy :D
THIS IS AMAZING
What a beauty
Love the details especially the massive Zagato Z showing through the grille. I have a Lancia Fulvia Zagato which has very similar proportions to this car.
Wow. Other than the main windshield panes there isn't a flat piece of glass on that car! A beautiful collection of curves throughout the body, too.
Great video! Some tech spec never goes amiss. Cubic capacity, four-branch exhaust, LSD, close-ratio and so on. Kind of fills it out.
Precioso. No hacen falta más palabras.
Beautiful!
Extraordinary.
Cracking little car. Beautiful looking thing
Charming vehicle!
zagatos are always special cars even in that format of the "people's" post war italian car.I hope we may see more of that gentleman's fine automobiles in the future !

What a jewel this Fiat and it shouldn't be so rare, one of the few small engine cars with charisma

This is "not" a FIAT, it is a ZAGATO Creation based on a 500 FIAT Chassis, everything above alloy body , interior design, Motor tuning was refined by Zagato and maybe Abarth, a n independent then in the early fifties. On the front grille is a big Z to show this. The plate "750 MM" shows that the 500cc 4 cylinder was opened up to 750 cc and equipped with 2 double barrel carbs, the power war pushed from 13,5hp (net) to 28 or 30hp and some of these cars did really compete at the Mille Miglia in the class up to 750cc.
i ove how the engine sounds like its going to just burst!!! what a beauty ! Just this in my garage would make me rich!!
A quirky, but fascinating little car.
awesome car
I love his perspective on him not being an owner, but a caretaker for next generations.
those red gauges are so beautiful
I just want to take this Little Mouse home and give it some cheese - and a hug.
Cool car!!!😎
What a beaut!
So attractive!
Very Cool. Local Phoenix guy. I need to find that road he was on. Another great vid
bellissima!
Yaay.. 4K.. Finally...
that's a weird little car but I actually love it. Great video.
Same attitude as Jay Leno. He's not the owner of the car, he's just the current caretaker. I love it. I love the car, too.
+Petrolicious Great work! Amazing shots! Nice light, and edit!
This guy is awesome; I would love to have the skills (and temperament) he has.
Beautifully hideous or hideously beautiful. I can't decide :-)
This was a great one! As always, I wonder about the location of the driving and I often (not so much in this one, but in many others) wonder about the music. How about just including those in the video notes every time?
My father has a fiat 500 C topolino...it's so cute and slow at the same time XD
If made a retro version they'd sell a zillion...
BLISS!
That did it! I'm a subscriber!
Very very cute car. Its like a toy! :)
Awesome!!! Such a cool shape... Google "Zagato Panoramica" if you wanna see more cars like this (this style wasn't limited to Topolinos). The shot from behind the greenhouse @ 2:47 really gives the full effect.
if you put some baseball cards in the spokes it would probably sound amazing lol beautiful car!
Another great video - many thanks. One minor criticism, it might have been good to show a pic of the original Topolino to show what Zagato had to work from?
Another great car, Fiat Topolino Zagato, should be badged "Zagato Jewel"! ;-)
When I was a wee little lad....I remember my baby pram looking like this....
Cute little bubble car...well done
Strangely seeing 2000 Nissan Micra.
What a goofy looking car. The craftsman ship is amazing though. The dash was impressive.
a cool car
This is the most petrolicious car ever!!!
learn something every day.
Uncle Topolino!
Zag Zag!!
4-door topolino? That's the first I've heard of those
Very nice video. Thank you. Also i want to watch a video about Fiat 131 Mirafiori. Can you prepare please?
Interesting that the drivers seat is a lot smaller (narrower) than the passenger seat. Maybe that was a weight saving measure and they removed the passenger seat in a race ? Good video. Rob
just wondering if there is any austin farina MKII out there that part of petrolicious
I found one at an estate sale last week.
What is the aspect ratio of the video?
Those sunset shots... Wow! Also question: why is it "the only one left"? Was the production too small? Like 10 cars or something? I mean it is aluminum.
