Characters like Cat and Daggett don’t deserve the crap that happens to them in my opinion, whereas actually mean characters like Ren arguably do. Squidward is in the middle for me. He’s a stick in the mud, but he deserves to catch a break once in a while

​@@onemadkat I fully agreed, especially Daggett, he's a mischievous but loveable dork, but always got the worst of it, especially in the early seasons . One of mine least favorite episodes is Pack your Daggs because of the ending were, their friends and welcome Norb with open arms, while freezing him out. I will say I enjoyed the later episodes mainly for Norb getting knocked down a few pegs.

As an adult who loved this show as a kid, now that I'm older, the only thing that I got from it now looking back on it with mature eyes: some people no matter what they do, they're always going to be crapped on. Some people are just meant to be hated, treated bad, and pretty much be the lightning rod for every tragedy that occurs around them. They stand up for themselves when they're being bullied, they somehow get the backhand of karma punishing them instead of their bullies; they do good deeds, it goes unrewarded, unnoticed, and brushed aside like nothing they do matters. And that is the character of Cat. He's always been like the adult when Dog has always been childlike.

I totally agree with what you're saying. In a lot of shows, there's almost always a character who always ends up getting the short end of the stick and consistently gets treated badly. I totally get the trope, but tbh it gets old after a while. I'm finding a lot more appreciation for the Cat as I go back and watch this series more and more. He's a good character who deserved more credit for all that he does!

Cat is literally the representation to all the sassy, non-chialant characters like me. I relate to the part where karma backhands you for doing one little thing wrong or doing what’s right instead of having justifiable effects. It sucks but I’m glad these videos are coming to a light of people-like cat aren’t bad- just misunderstood and compared to the nice, happy, chirpy Dog. Now than ever I relate to Cat so much and honestly I’m proud of that. So what if we’re sassy and straight up. That’s just who we are and sure we can improve but you can’t always change who you really are.

Catdog is probably the closest thing we get to family friendly body horror. 💀

2 things I found interesting in this episode 1) Is how future Catdog is the size of present Winslow. Meaning that as the Winslows bulked up, it's likely the future Catdogs slacked off. It's also interesting how they're still alive meaning Winslows original goal was never fulfilled which I imagine is because the original mission was lost to time like a giant game of telephone. 2) This shows that while Winslow can dish out the insults, he can't take them. He insults Cat all the time and Cat never went to this extent. But Cat insults him first once and he dedicated the next 1000 years to revenge. Or maybe the short joke just was that personal to Winslow. TLDR: Future Catdog is short yet still alive meaning Winslow never got revenge. Also Winslow can dish it insults but can't take them. Great review Shawn.

I grew up watching cat dog back in my country in latinoamerica. So all the characters just talked on spanish. Hearing Lolita talking with her spanish accent, it just hits different.

I never realized how much everyone in the catdog world bullied them until now especially Rancid Rabbit.

@@patcahill3724 I feel like when people say what you're saying it's kinda dismissive. Of course all shows have flaws but not all flaws are equally annoying or equally capable of ruining the experience for those watching the show. If you're consistently getting angry that a show is basically just Cat tor*t*u*r*e p^rn then that's a valid reason to have trouble watching a show, just like how most people who liked Spongebob, found the show getting worse over time with the way it liked to torture Squidward even when he didn't do anything wrong, and how hard it is to watch this guy get brutalized for no reason and the show frame it like he deserves it. I'd say Catdog takes that behavior to an extreme from the very start of the series where there's only a few times where Cat actually deserves what's coming to him. Would you be dismissive of people who said that Spongbob got worse over time because "all shows have flaws", or recognize that shows can have more flaws than others and have a declining quality where the show has gotten worse in a way that can make it hard to still watch or enjoy?

@@sardonicus1739 I'm not dismissive of spongebob's later seasons, I found them worse due to spongebob being a cash cow for nickelodeon, I still prefer the early seasons. I do love catdog no matter what, but that's my opinion and I still have fun watching the show, I still love Tom and Jerry even though it's Tom torture that's what made me love it. And everyone's entitled to their own opinions, and I respect that. Other than that, I still have fun watching both CatDog and Tom and Jerry, and pre-movie SpongeBob.

I notice that cat suffered a lot of misfortunes. Society often demonizes cats. I hate it when they make cats the villains in movies like cats and dogs or shows like paw patrol. Why can't cats be seen equally great as dogs?

Pretty sure that "odd, square-looking Speedo" on Winslow III is a reference to the original Dune -- Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen in that version of the movie was played by Sting, who was dressed in something very similar at one point.

14:56 It’s kinda odd when you look back at the great parent mystery movie Winslow did taken in CatDog but he definitely tormented Cat with the removing of the pacifier and putting it back in. Maybe 26 years of torment by the Blue Mouse and Cat just had that natural instinct to defend himself when Winslow comes to talk knowing an insult is being hurled in his direction

As a kid always felt i could relate to Cat and as an adult I still believe it. The way cat gets treated is absolutely heartbreaking, he really did deserve better.

My theory about Winslow bloodline is that each generation was told to focus on building muscle rather than intelligence. Enjoyed your video analysis and look forward to more on the future:)

You know what's really odd? The more I watch CatDog (as an adult), the more I love it. It did feel bad faith (to cat) when I was younger but as an adult I really respect the stories, characters & humour. Great video, as always.

I may be late, but my request is answered! This is one of my all time favorite catdog episodes, I think people need to talk about this episode more to be honest. And like I said many times, CatDog still holds a special place in my heart because CatDog never give up to fit in Nearburg society no matter how hard they were teased and such. They kept on persevering no matter what. And in my opinion, many of the stories in the show were hilarious! It got me hooked when I first watched it and I still keep watching it because it's that addictive honestly. And I also relate to it all the time as well too. Winslow may be a jerk, but he's a guilty pleasure character in my opinion.

I watched catdog growing up but weirdly i don't remember liking it that much. I had a cat dog plush though, one with a collapsible slinky middle lol. Looking back its a cooler show than I remember.

Well I was a kid.I didn't get the jokes at the end, but now it's an adult, and I realize how funny it is.I'm laughing right now😂

There was one episode I recall where one episode of Catdog where they try to invent a rain machine and cause a drought. It's one that I remember vaugely but I think that would be something I'd like to hear about. I do recall this episode too though, which is nuts.

CatDog was basically a "hit or miss" show for me. I remember finding most of the episodes boring or just okay at best, but enjoying other episodes. Not one of my favorite shows as a kid, but still one I watched. Oddly, one of the things I remember was CatDog Cheese Nips, lol

Always sympathized with Cat growing up. Still do.

I never got to see this episode when it first came out. Its true you dont know how you talk to people can effect them in the long run.

You're giving me an appreciation for this show that I never had before :) I never really gave Catdog much of a thought as a kid, honestly, but I kind of want to watch it after hearing you talk about how much you do. I hope one day I can put aside from money for a super thanks to recommend an episode, but I figure I might drop it anyways in here and give that thanks when I can. I cannot remember the episode name for the life of me, but it was an episode of Mr. Meaty. In the episode there was a scene about an alien laying eggs in one of the guys. Maybe it's even the Tapeworm episode you already covered. Either way, that was the definitive episode as a kid that made me completely stop watching the show. Something about it just. A little too much for me, and I was the kid who watched medical shows like no one's business 😂

Weirdly I remember absolutely loving Catdog as a kid... but I remember almost nothing about it xD

Yeah fr people need to know no cartoon is perfect. I know catdog is not perfect and no other cartoon I like is not perfect either, but I still enjoy them the way they are. No show is free from having flaws.

It's nice hearing someone else sharing a similar fondness for CatDog that I do.

My opinion of Cat changes a lot pending on the episode. I feel bad for him in one episode then I feel like he is a jerk in a different episode. One of the episodes that made me feel different about Cat, was when he wanted to have surgery to replace Dog and become a normal Cat, swapping bottoms with Randolph. Where Randolph and Dog hit it off, and Cat doesn't mind as long as he gets to his goal. Although it's strange I remember Cat having a change of heart at the last minute, realizing that he really loves his brother Dog. And I get this same feeling when they deal with the Fleas in a different episode. Where him and Dog fight over the flea collar, as the fleas would rush to the side that wasn't wearing the collar. Then Cat makes the sacrifice for Dog to give him the collar. When I dislike Cat is during an episode in where Cat reads Dog's diary. He ends up letting his curiosity get the best of him and invades Dog's personal stuff. And this all started because Cat had his own Diary. Another episode was where Cat was training Dog to be a sled dog. The training he puts Dog through is just so horrible. I know they want to win the competition, but if it takes a blizzard where Dog freezes into a block of ice for him to realize that he was being a jerk is amazing.

I watched CatDog all the time as a kid, but for some reason i cant quite remember this episode....

There hasn't been a Dark Side of Hey Arnold video in a while. I am curious about which Hey Arnold character would be in episode 6 of the Dark Side of Hey Arnold, there are also two episodes of Hey Arnold you should cover too, Stoop Kid from season 1 and Full Moon from season 4. Both episodes in my opinion are morbid episodes especially Full Moon in season 4.

Whenever I realize that I'm running out of eggs, I remember the egg episode where the entire premise is Mojo Jojo just trying to buy eggs because he ran out 😂 I loved PPG growing up, but my favorite was always those episodes where the villains are just being normal people going about their day (as normal as they can be at least). I understand that dogs are "Man's Best Friend" but how often cats are treated in most media bugs me.

I liked CatDog somewhat as a kid but couldn’t get past how the universe dumped on Cat so much. Made the show hard to enjoy. (I felt similarly about Angry Beavers because I always ended up sympathizing with Dag and hating how Norb was Teflon.) But maybe I’ll give it another shot

I feel this is merely a coincidence, and is largely unrelated to the video, but that Far Future with the big dome and the grassy hills in the background looks INCREDIBLY similar to the Metropolis level in Spyro 2, idk, was this perception of the future in general back then?

Winslow is one of those bullies who can dish it but can't take it.

I can understand that and for your CatDog mine is Phineas and Ferb which can be fun for you to rewatch. CatDog seems like a very fun episode. In terms of Phineas and Ferb you should do the episode Phineas And Ferb get Busted. Winslow seems like a good character just based on the episode.

Growing up I loved the show because of the gross out humor however my dad was never a fan and today he feels the same way about the modern SpongeBob‘s the reason your audience has mixed is because everybody’s opinions are different there are people like myself who grew up with the shell and as a result we love it but then there are those who believe the show came out after nickaloneon to gold mage and therefore they think it’s just silly but I love it

I loved the meaning of this episode I wish adults took some inspiration from this. I had to delete my comment on the Doug episode as I keep getting fat shamed for my comment.

I couldn't get into CatDog because I couldn't make myself like the characters. Cat was a vain, greedy narcissist who was more than happy to exploit his brother, while dog was sweet-natured and loyal, but impulsive, dumb, gluttonous and disgusting. The whole show just had this sense of grossness that permeated it that put me off of it. I think that's where the negative comments you get on this show are coming from.

I don't see why Cat deserves to be praised in this episode. He made this problem for everyone because he insulted Winslow. He may have been the solution but he was also the problem. I think the general message of the episode is just that; don't be unkind to people because you don't know how it will affect them and others over time.

I'm always amazed at how much nihilistic cynicism was present in kid's shows like this, especially this one.

Man.. this show is something else.. alright lol.. even as a kid I use to thought that Cat deserved the way he acted, but most times he didn't deserved it and left me with a bad taste in my mouth

I love catdog but I'm no serial killer, torture porn is an overused term people got from lousy mr. enter. There are people who love catdog but at the same time they are not serial killers. I am not nice sometimes, but still I would NEVER go that far to be a serial killer. That's like saying people who love Tom and Jerry are serial killers, not true. Not THAT serious. The hate for violence in cartoons is getting so damn old in my opinion that people should move on.

I liked Cat Dog but my dad didn't. It was one of the first shows on Nick that he banned us from watching before he saw that one episode of SpongeBob where SpongeBob and Patrick take Mr Krabs on a night of "debauchery" and end it by raiding mama Krabs underwear drawer. His reasoning was that this show, as he saw it was just too stupid. Lol

Cat is egotistical and a jerk at times, but he doesn't deserve the abuse he gets in the his show. I used to feel bad for him when i was a kid, but didn't like him because of his ego. However, Cat was wrong for starting with Winslow like he did. Winslow is a jerk, but two wrongs don't make a right.

In the butt episode where Cat wanted to be a normal cat while Dog wanted to remain a catdog, I thought Cat was being selfish. Looking back on it now that I'm older, I now the Dog was the one that was being selfish.

I despise this show with all my heart still but this is unironically the one of the decent episodes of the show (and by decent i mean 4/10 since the whole show is -infinity)

Shriek honestly needs to be a trans icon. I know she's not actually trans, but everyone always assumes her to be male. We even got an entire episode about her trying to get everyone to recognize her as a girl. If that's not transcoding, I don't know what is
