Takeaways: - Misha needs a VLN drive. Holding pace with a Cayman GT4 and an M2 in a homebrew build he's only just driving for the first time is fucking impressive. - Lapo needs to start his own aftermarket parts business. Plenty of time attack racers would pay well for what he can crank out. - The Opel Speedster is too beautiful for this world. Fun fact about those Ecotec engines is here in the states we got the 2.0 variant with a factory supercharger in the cobalt SS. The 2.2 I believe the weak point is the rods. But with new rods and pistons along with an upgraded valve springs these things are capable of monstrous power. The 2.0 in stock form can easily push over 450hp to the wheels. GM even has a handbook for the Ecotec line on how to build these engines and what fails at certain power levels.

@@camarodreams7689 And it is those M62 superchargers from the scrapyards that we bolt onto these speedsters for cheaps. With those on a 2.2 we reach a bit over 300 bhp. With the harrop 1320 supercharger that was developped for the lsj we squeeze up to 400 bhp out it. When putting it on a 2.4 ecotec it goes up to 500 bhp. Good times. We love the ecotec family here.
Woah! I must confess I cheated and checked the timeline when starting the video; and thought a car having 13min intro AND a 5min outro: this must be something special. A supercharged Opel Speedster with custom brakes, custom self built aero, basically custom everything... no power steering, no nonsense! Seeing Mischa going from uncertain face to worried face to happy face through every corner was just a delight. Congrats to Lapo on his awesome build. Hi There, As an engineer myself, and a teamchief in a race team and extreme motorsport enthousiast... WOW!!! What a build! You can see it has power in abundance for this type of car, but many people can increase power I guess. What I am most impressed about is that you actually see the down force working. A good driver can carry some speed through a corner up to the point where the car reaches its limit and becomes nervous and hard to control. But the way this car goes through a corner... It is SO stable!! The way you carried decent speed through the corners throughout this lap, and have it so stable tells me 2 things: - that you were definitely not driving on the car's limit (makes sence ;) ) - there is much more potential in this car! Massive kudos to this guy who built the car!

Hearing what the lad said about the Kevlar reminds me that the Ford RS200 in it's Group B rally spec had Kevlar body panels because the gravel abraded the wheel arches away from the inside with lesser materials. I was told they'd get one rally from a set of Kevlar panels. I got to a drive a 450HP RS200 around the site roads at Dunton. I initially thought OK but not mind blowing, but then the big turbo kicked in, and the acceleration was so violent I was left wondering how anyone could think fast enough to control the car through a Welsh rally stage with trees both sides of the track waiting to kill you if you got it wrong. That remains one of the stand out memories of my life.

So interesting to see car's like this. Lightweight car, much tuned by the owner and it works perfect. Congratulations to this car :)
I had two VX220 turbo's and they are massively underrated. The standard aero does suffer from lift at the back at high speed, the different engine cover will have helped, but the rear wing will be a massive help on the track. Oh and worth noting as you mentioned it a couple of times, these cars do not have power steering from the factory, but its not needed. There is a lot you can do to the all alloy (Lotus designed) 2.2 to improve pick up and reduce weight. A balancer shaft delete is a good start and you can get a kit that shortens the auxiliary drive belt and ditches a lot of heavy pulleys. Stiffer engine mounts are a big improvement too. I'm sure this guy will have done all this but obviously you've concentrated on his unique work. Great to see someone with so much enthusiasm and talent.
This lady’s and gentlemen is what competence looks like. Something that is increasingly harder to find amongst today’s car enthusiasts.

This is one of my favourite videos, so much genuine passion and seeing misha so happy, what a great video
Mr. Koenigsegg, beware: you just got a strong competitor in a matter of a few years! Really impressive job on the car!
Love seeing your content and your honest enthusiastic and constructive encouragement towards this young talented and upcoming pro engineer in the making. Its all about building people up and you do this in buckets and spades sir.
This was definitely the coolest car on track that day extremely impressive. hats off to him for doing it with a passion and he really knows his stuff!
YES !! Love this build, you know it’s good when Misha excitedly laughs after the run. Kudos to the Student, Car & Misha saying sorry for the scrapes. Really enjoyed this vid.

absolutely🤩👍
Super impressed with the rear subframe brace / wing mount. Using one part for multiple purposes is great engineering. Incredible work all around. Really demonstrates the power of knowledge!
What a great video! You're excitement was palpable! And that guy is so humble for what he can do. I hope he has great success in the future.
This is probably one of the most gripping viewing experiences you have given us, epic drive and a great car, I hope you get to drive it again once the bottoming out has been sorted ❤❤❤💯🔥😎👊🏻
This is probably the bast car i've seen on this channel. It was so enjoyable to watch this/hear it.
Great car and drive. I like the way this car makes you absurdly involved in the drive, no padle shifters, no abs. Misha needed to really work hard in this car - loads of left foot breaking, heel-toeing.
That vehicle is incredibly impressive! Absolutely love the four camera views as well. It's as fun to watch the footwork as the drive.
That stuttering whine of the supercharger on upshift is intoxicating. This kid is special, i hope he has a great future in racing/automotive design. The future rocket bunny of aero.
Impressive building 😮 Great driving Misha 👌💪 Congratz from Portugal 🇵🇹
Mishas reaction says it all, damn impressive. hopefully wen the car is fully finished we will c the car again. the future looks bright for this young man. wow.
This guy should be hired by a racing team immediately. His technical knowledge about aerodynamics, carbon structures, computational fluid dynamics, etc.... is HIGH LEVEL. Such a great car. Such a great video. This guy will find himself designing F1 racers at some point.
Nice vid. Its clear to me that you have the most fun in this type of car. Basic and challenging. Fun to watch !!!
Among all the cars you have presented to us here , this was pure joy to watch . Kudos to you and awesome owner of the cute monster ..
Thank you Misha for featuring this young builder! And what a classic track car it is, no power steering, no abs. Kept me glued to computer monitor for the whole lap.
Mighty impressive how well you and the car kept up with the cayman and m2. Well done to the lad that built that car. It looks very driver focused and fun to drive.
Wow, the ease the owner gets in and out of that speedster is impressive! And yeah...the car is pretty awsome too!
As a mechanical engineering student myself I must applaud this guy, what he did is amazing! Truly awesome work and an inspiration to lots of guys like me! But as I am seeing this I also grow more frustrated as I can't do something like this in germany simply because of the TÜV and police here. As soon as they see you with custom and self engieered aero (Edit: And not only aero, in fact, everything that does not have a certain type of certificate (Mind you, some parts can have a certificate but still not be roadworthy as the certificate is simply either the wrong one or not sufficient for the TÜV, even though it is completely okay in other countries)), your car will be impounded and immediatly taken of the road with a huge fine in the 4 digit range. Truly, it's a shame that germany limits so many things and that we, as students, cannot try ourselves out... I am happy for the dude in this video for working on his dreams and I hope he will be very successful! We need people like him in this branch!
Respect to the man who built that awesome car, and thanks Misha for sharing a great video. I'm only watching on a computer screen, but oh boy what a ride it was!
An engineering masterpiece! Kudos to the builder. Amazing.
This is one of the most impressive things ive ever seen. Major inspiration for a engineering student
