The NHS is a service that we don’t appreciate enough yet use more than we probably should. I was in A&E last week and had to go back for a follow up on Monday. I could see how pressured the whole system and it’s staff were. I can’t thank the people who were there to help me enough, they’re incredible and I don’t know how some of them manage to stay so happy whilst working. I feel sorry for them all and I hope the system somehow gets help someday because they need it along with schools and other emergency services. NHS staff, thank you for all you do.
@georgiakruger8621

The NHS is not counted as an emergency service. Its an essential service so the NHS actually get less funding anyway. I agree they do need the help and brits should stop being so helpless. Yes I agree. My mum works in A&E and the amount of people that go in for a papercut are ridiculous, the waiting lasts for about 4 hours, to get seen, and people go in with a cold. The only payrise my mum has had in 20 years has been about last year and she had a payrise of 44p per month. She gets patronised by her managers that constantly put her down, their under pressure, under paid, and under funded, and people that have had to much to drink dominate everything. Where my mum works, the car parking is going private and they have a floor for staff, there isn't nearly enough space, they have to double park, and they have started giving parking tickets to their staff, because they haven't build enough space, sorry for ranting but it just makes me so upset, and my cousin last weekend hit his head and went to hospital, he was drunk, and they sent him away without a check, the next morning he was vomiting all morning and was taken back to hospital where he was found with a bleed in his brain and transferred, they are under too much pressure, they send people away because they don't have space, and the government just wastes money and patronising them more
@bozieduble8541

@@lolarose8973 I completely agree. Just a few months ago I got to speak to a manager of the Psychology dept., and most of their funding comes from charities. There's not nearly as much funding in psychological services as other departments like neurology. The only hope is there's some intersectional funding from other dept (I.e. psychology will get some funding from Gynaecology/Natal services where the two provide an intersecting service, such as for mothers who may have suffered injuries during birth, or even had a still birth). The funding for mental health issues in the NHS is just abysmal - you only have to look at the waiting lists for outpatients awaiting therapy to see it.

So when brexit is over, we'd better see a boost to the funding. The dreaded brexit bus said £350 million per week to Brussels, then it says 'let's fund our NHS'. If they put any less than £350 million a year in (just 1/52 of the amount supposed as saved) then the annual budget would be nearly tripled. The question is however, can we train people not to be idiots or wankers?

NHS did multiple operations on me when I was a child, made my life so much less painless when doing normal routines. When my dad had a suspected heart attack, he said he was comfortable and well looked after by the staff. When my grandad was paralysed from the waist down, he was grateful for the attention from the staff so he didn’t feel lonely when family wasn’t able to visit. The NHS is a brilliant system and the staff are amazing people. My full respect is with them.

I broke my arm last week whilst ice skating (don't ask me how) at 11pm and the hospital got me in very quick for the amount of people in the waiting room. I am very thankful for the NHS.

77cm?! How the hell did he even GET to the hospital?!? Pretty sure he couldn’t sit in a car! I guess they had to tell him to expect a lump of coal when he got home cuz he was definitely a naughty boy that year...
My mum is a nurse and every year she would work the early shift so mums with younger kids could be there for when their kids open their presents. I didnt realise how hard she worked until I worked as a health care assistant on her ward whilst doing my degree. She is an angel. Not to mention the doctors and midwives who saved my daughter and I 4 years ago 😍 then the amazing neonatal nurses working long hours making sure we were both ok
I live in Belgium and I’m going to school to be a nurse. I really love how you spread awareness to these issues. Don’t get me wrong, most people are nice and gratefull but unfortunately there are some that make it really hard for us to continue doing the job that we truely love!

I think when speaking about the NHS we should recognise the importance of every job not just that of nurses and doctors etc. The hospital could not run on just them alone, the hcas do so much with little mention and without porters who (other than Russell) are never mentioned the system could not function at all. It's not that simple, everyone needs help, that is not going to work, you clearly don't understand the system. People with alcohol are at more risk, someone with alcohol in their system has a head injury until it's not. We can't start patronising people, the government just need to fund them more for fucks sake and idiots need to stop going in for papercuts
My fathers just spent 3 weeks in hospital and though I think some things could have been better, I’m extremely grateful for all they’ve done for him. Honestly can’t thank them enough!!!
As a child who was born incredibly sick and my mom being incredibly sick at the same time, I appreciate the NHS so much for letting us both live.
I was in a mental health unit on Christmas Day the nurses most of which had families and children went out of their way to try and make us happy because we were all miserable. They spent their day with us working hard and making the best out of it. None of them are treated well enough. God Bless The NHS
The NHS has saved me and most of my family. I have nothing but respect and admiration for everything they do.
The NHS are truly amazing, i had Stage 4 Ovarian cancer last year at only 20 years old and came to The Christie hospital in Manchester and they saved my life, Im lucky to be alive and Im proud of the NHS nurses and doctors who do amazing work, very underpaid for doing the best for peoples lives xx
i think we should appreciate the NHS even more because of whats happening right now
The NHS in itself is so amazing, they have been so overworked and underpaid even before covid-19. They need so much more money and resources after all the Tory-backed budget cuts since still the waiting lists for scans is ridiculous. The amount of people who are being delayed a cancer diagnosis is terrible and the NHS needs to be supported so much more for everything they do.
Fucking hilarious
The NHS definitely deserves more support/kindness than they get. I mean, they save lives everyday and yet they still have to deal with s**t like this. Hell, if it weren't for them, I'd have died twice before my first birthday. (That's not an exaggeration, it's genuine fact. My umbilical cord snapped in the womb causing me to nearly suffocate at my birth, AND I suffered through pneumonia at 9 months of age. The only reason I still live to this day is because of the underpaid doctors and nurses working at the hospitals). So, to the NHS and hospital staff everywhere, thanks for all the good you've done in this world and all the patience you've had during these long years of servitude. I hope you have a Merry Christmas without all the crap you usually have to deal with.
My mum works for the NHS, and she appreciates this. Thank u Russel Howard and his team. X
As an Aussie, I'm desperately grateful for our NHS. It's one of the 'hand me downs' from England that we take for granted. I'm a cancer survivor, with a lot of other conditions and my son once said I must have cost NHS and Medicare "100K, easy". I chortled guiltily- my chemo, in America would have been one million dollars- just for the chemo. Not the operations, not the other drugs, not the ER visits when things went pear shaped. In other words, if I was American, I'd be dead. During the worst of the pandemic, there was a question on YT or Reddit, about the saddest last words that had been said. A respiratory doc in America said he'd never forget a family man's resistance to going on the ventilator, saying,"My family can't afford this. Just let me go"

I appreciate the NHS so much as they have helped my mum with her neurological back disorder, my great grandma with strokes, my grandma with her recent stroke and many more. I now need to have a heart screening to see if I have a genetic heart disease. I appreciate the NHS for doing so much for my family and I. They are working day and night for us and some of us become annoying pricks.
The NHS deserves so much more financial support they do so much hard work and don't get the support and rewards they deserve.
It's bloody terrible how the people who help us the most are the ones who get paid the least, and that's not just NHS, it's people like teachers and such as well. The NHS save peoples lives on a daily basis, work insane hours, and much more. Teachers have to put up with terrible behaviour from students, also sometimes work insane hours, and again, much more. The teachers are the ones that bring up students to become doctors and such, too. Not long ago I went to the doctors and the lady I was seeing was just so happy and funny and you could tell she loved her job, and the teachers at my school are the funniest people I've met. Everybody who takes a role in saving lives, whether it's actually saving lives or teaching them the basics that help them do so, they deserve a massive pay rise.
I love the NHS, I worked for it most of my nursing career and my daughter works for it now and we have both worked overtime without pay. So why the hell did this country vote for Boris who wants to sell it off? It's beyond my comprehension. Save our NHS. Please. X
I remember being in foster care some 30years ago now, and I was in hospital for nearly 2 weeks after an op over chirstmas time, I was 13 at the time, and being a foster kid, had no one to come and see me, but there was this one nurse, who after finishing her shift would spend some time with me, she didnt have to, and I was just some rancid annoying kid, but she played some board and card games with me for an hour every night, to all those who would use the word hero so easily, this NHS nurse and probably all such other staff like her are my heroes.
We called for an ambulance at 2am one night, and before we were off the phone, it had pulled up outside our house. This level of service that we have available to us 24/7 is truly wonderful, and I applaude every member of the NHS for their dedication and relentless efforts to be their for everyone.
My cousin works as a doctor and while on a 34 hour shift he ate 1 slice of toast And was scrutinised for it by his boss. I have so much appreciation for the nhs staff out there 💗
Nhs healthcare assistant here to say,we do get shit pay but most of the time my days are made much better by the niceness of patients that can be shown, im on for christmas day this year which sucks but its support from russell and what iv seen in the comments and the gratitude at work that make it worth it
Had NHS come in the middle of the night when I was younger because I abruptly stopped breathing apparently, I don't remember all the details but I still can say these people are simply incredible
the nhs has helped me so much ~i have vonwillebrand disease so i have had to go to a and e many times ~when i was four they performed an eye operation for my lazy eye ~they’ve given me hearing and eye tests all my life ~they provide me councelling ~they have saved my mum’s life thankyou so much to the nhs
Make their lives easier not harder. Look after all NHS staff.

Amen to that.
Russel Howard seems to be the most productive Comedian around. Always positive, sensitive and senseable. He´s a gift.
My Grandmother worked Christmas in the hospital 17 years straight. One year she lost a seventeen year old patient to cancer.
The NHS took such amazing care of me when I went through labour last year. It was so amazing and they were so kind. I had to call one at one in the morning because I was so sick (gas and air and the stress on my stomach) and not only did she help but she was so kind about it
My dad is working this Christmas and so is my brother (doctor and radiographer) :) and once he had a patient that punched his face and broke his nose and he had to have surgery 😔
big respect russell. as always. my mum has worked christmas and new year for the past five years or so and it’s just so much work. she and my dad work so bloody hard. nurses are so fucking brilliant i tell you
Very nicely said there Russell. Here in the UK, we're really lucky that so many selfless medical staff who are members of the NHS work their fingers to the bone in order to help people out, even sacrificing attending events at special occasions - exactly like Christmas - in order to do so. I personally can't understand why so many complete utter arseholes would attack medical staff who are trying their best to help them. Sure there inevitably are some bad medical staff out there - since there are bad people in every profession - but those who go out of their way to be good at their job in order to get things done, and really help people - especially reassuring their distraught relatives - get my full respect. I've seen numerous medical staff who've been great before, One time while I was in year 5, one of the other kids tripped me up in school, and I fell and landed on my wrist with all of my weight, which ended up fracturing it. I saw a female radiologist (who selflessly let me keep the wrist brace which she gave me) and a male doctor in Alder Hey hospital who helped me out, and they were both really great with me and my mum. I've also been in A&E of the Royal Hospital 3 times after having a seizure (because I have stress induced epilepsy) and the medical staff who I met were absolutely fantastic, especially the paramedics who helped me, one of whom even made a pad from some gauze to go on my face when he put the oxygen mask on me so it wouldn't rub a sore spot from where I'd hit my face on the floor when I fell and scraped it. Also one male German doctor who I saw the first time. He slogged his guts out doing everything that he could to help me, even going as far as getting an x-ray done because one of my fingers was sore at the time. He also at one point said, 'this is the part normally where the parents go out', basically meaning a polite way of asking my parents to leave at the time, since he was then going to ask me some questions that he needed to know the honest answers to, but he would have thought if it was in front of my parents, I may potentially have lied about it. I said, 'no, it's okay, they can stay', because I had nothing to hide from them. Not only were my parents happy with that, but he was too. I've seen different neurologist who were pretty good. The only problem was that when I'd told them everything I remembered from the time I'd had the seizures, they all repeatedly pushed me in order to make me tell them more, which I couldn't. I considered making a complaint about them, but in the end, I didn't, since they were purely doing their job. Not only is calling 999 for those stupid reasons - essentially like 'crying wolf' - completely ridiculous, it's also really dangerous, since it can actually stop someone else who really does need help from getting it!
My gf's mum works for the NHS and she works both Christmas eve and Christmas
I have been an RN for 45 years, thank you for bringing nurses working conditions to light.
Everybody who works for the NHS, just know that although we don’t always behave like it, we appreciate you and all that you do.
I'm not from england, but from austria, aka a country that drinks even more alcohol than England. My parents are a doctor and a former nurse (now on a phone medical service) and we often had to celebrate Christmas one or two days later, because of it. As a kid, I thought it was unfair. Why did all my friends already get presents and I had to wait? But now I'm so impressed by my parents, they are my hero's. (Nothing to do with Christmas, but my stepdad literally delivered a baby in an ambulance, without ever having done it before in a steady place. And he was the one that told my mom I was a girl when my mom still was with my father.)
Thankyou!! My mum is an intensive care nurse and she has worked every Christmas Eve / Christmas Day since I can remember
NHS are awesome we are so lucky to have nhs. I’m thankful for them.
My mum is a nurse who has to work almost every Christmas, and my dad works out of state and is never home for Christmas, Easter, or birthdays. Most Christmas' are just my big brother and I looking after our little sister, opening presents, then being picked up by our grandparents for Christmas lunch. Most times we don't see even one of our parents until 5pm at least
"There doctors not Joey Essex " 😂😂😂😂😂
The more Russell Howard videos I watch the more respect I have for him. He is a hero in his own way, standing up for people who don't necessarily have a voice, like paramedics, teachers etc.... and his jokes are hilarious too!
Honestly I work In the NHS and as much as the doctors are incredibly intelligent and know what their doing (most of the time) but almost all of them lack any form of common sense and I have had to explain to one doctor how to use a torch, it only had one button, so having to explain toast to them isn’t out of the realms of possibility
Love how Russell shits on the mail and then sources the express for his “serious comment” 👌
We once had the fire alarm go off at the hospital I work at because someone burnt toast... 😂😅
I am a nurse and I love you for this, thank you.
I love the fact that his comedy is in support of civil servants
When I was (I think) 4, I fainted at school and I went to my local hospital. I don’t remember much about it but I’m still here 13 years later and I’m grateful of the free healthcare service that our country has
It is really nice to see people appreciate the NHS as I have to wake up on Christmas morning without either my parents as my dad is a farmer and my mum a nurse
He got skinny again, but he's still cute as all hell :3 but there was a brief time a year or two ago where he was carrying some serious guns :Q...

My mum is a nurse. I don't member a Christmas she hasn't worked. I use to hate it because Christmas was for family's and she was never there. Now of course I understand it and love her all the more for it.
My mum is a midwife for the NHS she had to go out at 1:00am and had to miss Christmas lunch I feel so sorry for her so we are celebrating Christmas again on Boxing Day
I work as a health care assistant for the NHS service and I'm working Christmas day🤷, let's see how many likes this can get☺
