I own two of this reel, one for my ultra light and the other for my light setup. I have had them going on three years now and have no complains at all, it's smooth and light. Last year a 80 lb Snapping Turtle took my jog whiile Crappie fishing and fought it for about 10 minnutes, I tjought that I had a giant of a Crappie until finaly the turtle came up for air, but the reel handled it like a pro of a reel. Actuall is the best over all ultra light and light spinning reel I have ever had, have caught lots of Perch, Gills, Crappies and Smallmouth Bass on them. Great reel!!!

You can get a shimano sienna for $30 in a variety of sizes. I have found this to be the best reel under the $30 mark. Also, shimano states it can be used for fresh and saltwater... double win in my book!!

Bought a couple of them, the bail don't close right anymore after a year of fishing with them, I now have to manually close the bail after cast, and then again make sure the bail and line and seated properly afterwards. But I abused my siennas. If this happens to you, and you find a solution for it, I would love to fix it. For now, I got a couple sedonas, and hopefully they work well.

They are made in China also and probably don't have half the bearings.

Not sure if that was a perch colored Mimic Minnow swimbait or the similar Wallymart version but either wayt they are quite killer. Have caught dozens of fish on those swimbaits. Paired with that ultralight setup and that's an afternoon of fun. thanks for the review of that reel.

I went fishing with my dad last year and he caught a 33-36 pound carp on a lake on a crappie rig and surprisingly it didn’t snap off his 8 pound test

I already use it it’s a bit heavy overoll is good i have fight with baramundi it can pull 10pound easily

Spray a little fluid film rust protection/lubricating oil in the reel and it will do wonders to improve smoothness. I dropped a reel in water and it became kinda janky as it would lock up sometimes. A little FF and it reels like new with no hiccups.

@@stevejones9636 alot of these Chinese reels state a large number of bearings, but when disassembled they only have 2 to 4 bearings

I've seen that brand on Amazon. I spend a lot of time just browsing stuff, and I've bought some of those cheap things too. I'm a big time budget person, so I'm always looking for that diamond in the rough. One was a $15 spinning reel (with a nice wood knob) that was actually pretty nice for a little while. Then it started feeling not so nice. Still catches fish though. I wonder how that would stack up against something like the KastKing Summer or Royal Legend II, reels I use for my ultralight rigs, right in that same price range. They're both absolute steals for the price.

Hey Brendan, great video and recommendation. I can see that I am 2 years late to watching this video. I am thinking of getting this reel for my ultralight set-up as it is still for sale and quite cheap. What type of line and line strength do you recommended for it? Many thanks.

I have the same rod /rods and reels . I do ha2 of each. I bought them years ago. I have 2 reels they are the same except mine are from a Chinese brand called Sougayilang. A lot of stuff comes from China with small changes.....including some Diawa and Shimano stuff. They have the base models. It is a matter of quality control. My similar reels have 14 bearings. As for rods NOBODY can beat the Shakespeare Micro Series for the price. It doesn't have any competition. I've done my experimenting with these rods and reels and know what they are. Of course you cannot tell some people that spend a ton of money anything. They must justify things. People have less of a setup spending twice as much many times. Still don't know why the 8 lb line, but i guess it's doesn't make any difference where you are fishing.

I used to have one of those, but the bale arm on it gets bent so easily

Those $20 Walmart rods are pretty decent for what they cost.

I had one and it only lasted me a month of light use before it started making strange noises.

I picked up a Zebco spinning combo from Walmart for $9.88 plus tax and have been destroying the trout. If it only lasts one season I got my money’s worth.

That's actually a rebrand sougayliang reel, there a sougayliang reel that looks identical to it and the parts are actually better, more metal.

That’s canal looks like a blast to fly fish.
