Although I'm not justifying their behavior, this is clearly the result of a combination of understaffing, low pay, and long hours. That woman probably had a very long day, most likely with no breaks as well, is probably the only person or one of very few people in her department scheduled that hour or day and most likely had to deal with tons of angry customers prior. In which she unfortunately decided to take her frustrations out on Garnt. Note: I used to work at UPS so that's probably why I might come off as empathic towards the staff. Again, I'm not justifying their behavior, just giving an explanation of why they might act this way.

Pro advice: you pack a blank firing or airsoft pistol with your expensive cameras and lenses. It gets a "firearm" tag, gets handled by the system as if it were a real-steel piece, and no sticky finger handler would ever touch the pelicase with a 10foot pole because lost firearms warrant a completely different level of investigation than a random suitcase...

  • @vivianrichards1313

$50,000 worth of camera equipment is nothing to sneeze at and the fact that the airline has been actively ignoring them on social media is a sign that no one in their right mind should use that airline if they value their belongings and don't want to be hung out to dry. This especially applies if you have already gone through the proper channels and filed a lost/stolen baggage form and still have neither received your baggage or heard from an airline representative.

So Heathrow is causing her a constant headache for weeks now of ppl asking about lost luggage to which she has no info. Can you imagine after the 500th time you're asked "Could you just check anyways?" When you 1000% know you have no more info to provide? It eventually breaks you like it almost broke Garnt.

It's not Karen behavior to want companies to have some honesty and integrity. What's the point of a company existing if it treats its paying customers poorly? I don't like the old line that "the customer is always right", that line is what produced Karen behavior in people long before they were coined as Karens but I do believe that companies need to be held accountable for their mistakes and wrong doings as well as being held to a higher standard of conduct with their customers.

I've started sticking with Birmingham Airport now because Heathrow never seems worth it. There's always plane delays or your plane sits on the strip for forever. The last 2 planes I got on there both had bag loading issues and one wasn't even fuelled so we had to wait for that to be done. We were then told that they did it wrong and we had to sit through it again. With Bham the biggest delay I had was 10 mins n that was just for boarding n we still arrived early so if you don't mind the extra travel I fully recommend BHX.

This level of clusterfuck isn't malice, it's just incompetence. And I do understand why that LAX lady would also be frustrated bc they're also understaffed and in a holiday period of high traffic and this airline from halfway around the world is incompetent and causing her headaches and being yelled at even though she doesn't work for them specifically. I don't think there is a good short-term solution bc it's a staffing issue. It's like working at a restaurant where you're falling behind on orders and ppl keep calling asking about orders. But if you keep answering the phone to talk to them it just means the orders fall even more behind as ppl are stuck on phones instead of dealing with the issue.

Would recommend having GPS trackers inside your luggage cases now because you never know with airlines or baggage handlers. I used to work maintenance for tugs and other vehicles that are on the tarmac and I can guarantee that the people that handle your bags really dont give a fuck about your bags. They're all the same to them, luggage that needs to be thrown either onto a plane or off a plane. What they receive is whats going on, so if they don't get your bag in carts, its not going onto the plane unless told otherwise by another employee.

This reminds me of when I was on my trip back home from my first convention trip(last summer). I had a backpack full of EVERYTHING I bought at the con(everything but two anime weapons I shipped in the mail), a blueray player, a few anime dvd cases, some electronics I use for streams and gaming(headphones, mouse, mini mic), and Lastly, my brand new gaming laptop. I usually carry it on with me, but my brother demanded it be in the checked bins cause he wanted them as full as possible. And he refused my small suitcase that was usually in there. So we get the bins checked, and we fly to Seattle, get our bags, and we then drive 4 hours to my grandma’s. The next day, we organize the bins for shipping cargo to get to our village, and I dig through every bin and my backpack ISN’T. THERE. At this point, I’m having a full on panic attack and crying trying to find my backpack because there’s $3000+ worth of stuff in there. And my brother’s whatever attitude isn’t helping 😑. My mom was a lot more helpful and reassuring and called customer service, but they didn’t find it. Then an hour later my brother found my laptop. THANK GOD CAUSE THAT WAS ALMOST $2000. But everything else is gone 😭 After we returned home we sent in a claim for the $1000, but they sent it back and said they couldn’t pay for what THEY STOLE(yes I’m saying stolen 😡) because it was in a bin and not a suitcase. I’m still pissed and it’s been a year. If my laptop was in there I would have made mom help me sue them cause isn’t that a crime???? Plus they are literally blaming ME a for “trusting” them with MY bag that THEY OPEN AND INSPECT. I was so ready to call them myself even tho I can’t talk on phones, I was so pissed.

You should try getting an air tag or a tracking tag so at least you'd know where it is especially helpful for expansive equipment like this

A couple years ago I did a semester study abroad in Australia, and I forwarded all my mail (temporarily) to my mom's place. I ended up getting back a little early so I cancelled the rest of the forwarding order. Except I live in a small town, so my local post office didn't actually check the computer, they just remembered I had put in a forwarding order and kept forwarding stuff on. I noticed this when I ordered some stuff online and it was marked as getting to my town but never arrived at my house. I put in a request about the missing mail (actually I did it 2 or 3 times), and eventually a guy told me that when they forward stuff they have to change the tracking number which is why it didn't get updated. But he would never give me the new tracking number. And of course when the package got to the post office by my mom they checked the computer system and saw that the forwarding had been cancelled, so they didn't deliver it and didn't keep it either. Never did find out where he hell it went, just ended up re-ordering (and it was like $100 worth of stuff!) and for the rest of the time I lived at that house I had to either order to a friend's house or use a fake name on my mail so they wouldn't keep sending my mail out into a black hole.

I might be wrong, but once you have checked in, the plane won't leave without you, as far as I know. Plus, you can always call the representative for a delay, I suppose, it is not you fault airport is failing to manage it's own scheduled flights

Seeing as you managed to get by with renting equipment, maybe for future work trips - stick with that plan so you don't risk your own filming equipment getting lost or damaged in transit.

They may still be at the air-port! In the UK as lot of airlines are cancelling flights and facing huge backlogs for the flights that do go ahead due to lack of staff for the airlines and the air ports (being reported on UK TV news). This is due to the whole industry (UK) recovering from the lay-offs due to COVID and the hugely increased demand for flights since the restrictions have been lifted. NOT an excuse but it a valid reason for it! So keep chasing them as the luggage may never have left the airport or been severely delayed. I would think the flight industry in the USA would have recovered a lot quicker due to the size of their domestic market.
