The skipping cutscenes part is fine if either the story isn't interesting or the gameplay is your only priority for you and anything else makes the game a disaster, but you have to be either braindead or a Metahuman to be able to watch a TV show or movie at increased speed, because I sure as fuck could never remember anything about it if I tried to do that. Kids, if you wanna review something, then pause frequently and take notes, maybe even compile a Google Doc if you're streaming it with permission from the rights holders. And if you're watching a KZread video or livestream and you find another that looks more interesting, just skip the one you're currently on and come back to it later.
I once caught an episode of Community, one of my favorite shows, on TV and was hoping to get a friend into it since it came up. It was sped up, which made it sound strange and ruined the pacing/timing of so many jokes. I looked into it and found out many channels do this to fit ads into the timeslots. The ads should be sped up, if anything. Don't ruin a show and make me stop watching the entire channel just to appease the advertisement overlords.

I think it’s fine. One of my friends who isn’t very good at video games and doesn’t really care to get better plays games for their story. She’ll try to get to the next cutscene by herself but if she struggles, she’ll ask her husband to do it (he’s happy to help). Someone could easily be the opposite, they play video games for the challenge and don’t care about the story. If the game play isn’t good enough on its own, the game isn’t good enough for them. Not everyone has to enjoy everything in the same way you do.
Connor deserves the roast for skipping cutscenes. Like, my guy, JUST STREAM SNES AND ONLINE ONLY GAMES, LMFAO
Connor's sentiment on Stories in video games is something I both hate and completely understand at the same time. I'm like Joey and cutscenes to me feel like a earned break and reward from beating a section. Like I get it when you start up a game your intention is to play the game not to watch a movie or read. I'm sure the feeling Conner gets when he sees the opening cutscene is the same feeling people get when they play a new board or tabletop game and someone has to read the rules or set up the plot. Game developers need to integrate their stories more in the game part of their video games. Involve the player in your story and then they would be more willing to see it play out.
If looks could kill
Connor needs to play doom eternal, perfect for his antics

TBH watching a show at x1.5 or x2 is just like pulling up a second window/screen and doing something else half the time until an interesting part comes around in the anime. I have definitely done both for mediocre anime where parts of the show i really REALLY didn't care for but i still kinda needed to know what was going on to understand the parts i was invested in xD In my defense tho: i have ADD and i can absolutely tell you what was on screen or what was happening even if i do something else. The weirdest part about Connor's perspective is that it seems like he doesn't actually understand his own taste. Games that feature way more story than gameplay should be harder for him to enjoy, not exceptions to the rule. Based on the info he gives, It seems like his issue is less an exclusionary preference for gameplay and more like an extremely short attention span. If he never skipped a cutscene ever again, and simply tried to pay more attention , he'd probably enjoy games more.

I can't watch normal YT videos on anything but 2x anymore. Only exception is when I'm tired/exhausted or when it's music or something cinematic where I don't want to ruin the pacing. But if it's just somebody talking, I don't see any reason not to watch it sped up. I can understand it perfectly well and it's not like it chances what they're saying. And for most stuff, the pacing is irrelevant or even way off anyway. I don't watch anime sped up though.
I always keep it at 2x unless it's music or a seizure warning.

I don't unless I've seen it but if it's not voice acted I usually skip it. When it comes to any game but Yakuza I hate reading text boxes. Yakuza unlike any other game has a thing where if you hold a button another one becomes an instant skip of waiting for letters to type out but you can just mash it out. It lets me read things at my pace where most games have a cool down on skipping stuff. Also now I remember why I don't have any desire to watch Connor.
