Then the account wouldn't have been bought by the current owner. And the previous owner didn't care. It got too much attention before it was worth this much, and the fact that people knew about it would have made it a big deal no matter if it was private or not. Of course, he shouldn't have made such a big deal out of it.

Biggest mistake: too much publicity! By unbanning this account Valve would create a precedent that could potentially open them to a lot of legal troubles with other banned users. Plus, it's not just the scamming part, but also the fact that the account was sold, which is explicitly prohibited by their TOS. It's just not gonna happen!

Thats kinda the thing about temporary bans, they tend to get lifted after a specified time has passed.. Account was banned for 10 years. 10 years has passed. How would it cause legal trouble?

@@albertbord Because every scammer who got banned will demand to be unbanned too. If not, I'm sure that a lawyer could come up with a lawsuit based on Valve's inconsistent policies. Also, the account has been sold, which is even more serious than the scamming part. From valve's TOS: "When Steam's support team notices an account has been sold, the account will be PERMANENTLY locked whether or not it is currently in the possession of the buyer or seller." and "If you buy and use an account, you risk losing access to the account at any time with no option to recover it. When this happens, you'll also lose any value you've added to the account including but not limited to: Rank, playtime, and stats Purchases or activated games Inventory items purchased or acquired through gameplay." There's no debate there.

He should be unbanned, in my opinion. Because that's the only ethical way for the system to react. If it is stated that when the time of ban is over, he should be unabbned and they should follow the terms they've stated. If the game doesn't react or keep him banned, then the system it self is corrupt. It is being objective.

Well, I mean the system legally owns every skins, and if they were to tradeban all the accounts that bought the stickers, there's nothing you can do against them (because it's never yours).

He was given a ten year trade ban and he served it. Just because he also happened to buy stickers and it makes you seethe he will get rich, doesn't mean he should arbitrarily get a longer sentence. That's not fair, and the owner isnt even the scammer.
