So, the situation is as follows: very difficult to find a job if you don't speak the language. Even if you do won't be easy as there aren't many jobs. Good ones. Low wages. High taxes unless you are entitled to a reduction. No renting market and if you are lucky to find a place expect a price through the roof. Health care is universal if you are a resident or have an European card. Otherwise you'll need insurance. People are usually welcoming, although that is changing a bit because of the literal invasion by foreigners, food is good, weather is not bad and scenery is nice. Safety better than in most of other countries, if such a thing exists. Don't expect much and you won't be disappointed. From someone born and raised in the country.

"The literal invasion by foreigners" do you know your history. No one is INVADING portugal. You bigot don't like migration but your ancestor were the first invaders in Africa
I love Portugal!
This was very helpful! Thank you
Thank you for this video. You're looking amazing. I had to look for you then you started to pop up. ❤🎉
Ty so much for this video, I have my visa appointment next month!
Heather, GREAT video! I spent almost all of Covid year 2020 doing research. You gave the best referrals. I used American Friends also. Thanks for the Shout Out to The Lisbon Project at the end.
Thank you for this video Heather. Nice to shes some light on some of these myths you hear. That $1800 is what I’m paying here in Maryland for a 1 bedroom with the same amenities. That’s definitely not cheap. Depending on where you live in the state, you almost have to assume you might pay the same but Midas a car, car, insurance insurance and maybe other living expenses may be cheaper to make it still a better option. Because if you like traveling, it still will cost a lot less to travel from Portugal to other locations in Europe, as opposed to getting plane tickets from the US. To me, it’s still a good option with your points in mind.
tysm for this video :)
Thanks so much for the info! I'm still in Merida but I'm moving to a cooler location in Mexico soon. I Love your hair!

Why are you moving to Mexico??
I really enjoyed your vlog. I'm planning to spend a month in Lisbon this August. Can you recommend an extended stay lodging/Airbnb? 2bedrooms/2baths near transportation reasonably priced.
Thank you for setting realistic expectations. I will be visiting and checking out neighborhoods in April, and then doing my transition in 2025. I am already factoring in inflation in order to be prepared. Great content!
Thanks for this video am Adel from cameroon am planning to relocate to Portugal
Thank you for telling me about Duolingo :)
Hey shipmate!!! Didn't know you had a YT channel. Subbing now!

Hey hey! It’s been a while! How are you?
Working there isn't great. That's the only issue I have and there's also no rent control, it's getting overpopulated by senior Americans. I did visit for about a week, people are so nice. The hotels are so much nicer and affordable than in the US.
Hi there & many thanks (4) your video + thoughts. Since you give friendly advices (4) possible relocation (2) Portugal, and after your long experience as you mention across the globe. How long took (2) registered in police (4) aliens in Portugal & which is the process you went through??

I’m doing my research and planning to relocating to Portugal as a single senior. I would love some of the FB names that may guide me to a affordable area.

Just curious as to why one would want to begin with a story about homeless women buying beer. You never know what anybody is going through, so when you give, you should give with a loving and open heart. Judge not less ye be judged.

Did you listen to what she said ? She talked about that being her only initial memory of Portugal. Stop trying to bait.

There is no such thing as European Portuguese. There is Portuguese. You know, the original!!!!!! It as amazing that you Americans, immigrants in our country, saying that people should try and have an open mind to the Portuguese culture. In Portugal!!!!!! Seriously, the less of you in Portugal, the better!

The video contains lots of great information but it is hard to catch a lot of it because you speak in a sing-song way and when you list the names of groups, it's kinda slurred and you slip up and the info just slips by. Sorry to be so blunt but you have obviously done great research and want to share it widely and the articulation just gets in the way.
