I really like it, when a drummer beefs about his ´kick sound. I then usually push some buttons on the console that do absolutely nothing, telling them I'd adjust EQs and compression. Then I ask them which sound they prefer: chances are that almost 99 out of 100 say "Oh yeah, now it's much better - really love that sound!"

From my personal experience as an Engineer. "We're getting some levels, can you give me your kit, one piece at a time?" *tap.... tap... tap* "Okay, can you hit it like you mean it?" *tap... tap tap tap...* "Nonono, like how you're gonna play." "That IS how I play!!!" "Alright fine.." *Finish checking levels* "Okay, let's do a dry run, 3, 2, 1.." *EVERYTHING FUCKING CLIPS*

As a drummer, for whatever reason it's a pain in the ass for me to try to do something at the tempo of a metronome. Give me any sort of riff and I can figure out the right tempo easy, but something about metronomes just doesn't click with how my brain understands playing. It's probably related to how the metronome clicks on every beat when most drummers only accent two beats for every four-beat measure (as an example), but I'm not entirely sure.

A man of many talents I see

Ahh when I was at college, I used to HATE it when you did a mic volume check, and the performer either speaks into the mic, or plays a LOT more quietly on their instrument of choice. Then you set the click, hit record, they start to play/sing and BANG everything is hitting the red on the mixer, well over 0DB and you have to reset every channel as fast as possible, then retake. The part where he did the mic check gently, then beat the hell out of the drums when the engineer would of recorded, would of really pissed me off. Also, guitarists, take note. We have set our microphones up for the best sound for you and your band, please don't be the one who goes straight to their amp, and moves the fucking mic, and then complains you can't be heard during live performance. We can only turn you up so far. That does my nut in too(If you are not using a DI, sometimes guitarists like their amp to be used. We honestly are trying to get it to sound great for the WHOLE band in a live environment, please don't move any mics around! Singer is obviously exempt in live performance).
