Exactly! I can't stand it when people act like it's a freaking competition, especially because there are so many genres, styles and what not involved, and preferences are subjective! To each their freaking own, and whatever it is you prefer, doesn't make that which you don't bad: Total failure in rational reasoning and logic, and those that engage in it are most often afflicted by such thinking due to their own flaws and failures. I don't like a lot of stuff, but I'm not a fool to call someone bad, just because I don't dig the music they are playing.

The artist that was playing on the fanned fretted bass was impressive and from a technical perspective it was a very good performance. Chris Squire was on of the first progressive rock bassist that I really found stood out above many of the other rock bassist along with John Entwistle and Geezer Butler, and Paul McCartney, whom was the first bassist that I knew of, of course none of them utilised the slapping that most of the newer exceptional bassist do, most rock bassist used picks with a few exceptions, like Flea, for example. I play guitar, but I appreciate good bass playing. Thank you for posting these videos! Please have an excellent and awesome day! ☀️✨

Dingwall bass. Fanned frets take some getting used to but the trade off is a longer string scale with a more solid fundamental tone and vastly improved intonation. I have been a guitarist, 6 string, for over 40 years. It always amazes me when a bassist can play a lead guitar solo exactly like I play it on a 6 string. It took me years to be able to stretch a few frets on a 6 string fretboard. A bassist playing the same solo as me would have to stretch much farther. A bass fretboard is a lot longer and the interval between frets is larger. I don't know how they do it.

My favorite has to be Les Claypool. He is a master of slap and is unconventional in his phrasing. He is one of the very few bassists, for me, that has always created music that has engaged me in one way or another.

Its amazing how many upstanding young men from my very small hometown became recognized around the world for their talents! I remember Les in school and he was amazing for his age then. And Kurt too and a few others who went on to play with headline groups. Many pro ball players, motocross riders, and even a few diplomats, amazing how life matured these folks.

Aside from the fancy tricks displayed by many of these players, Tal Wilkenfeld was the best musician, putting a proper musical structure in her solo as well as playing very fast.
