FYI, he and his high school sweetheart eloped and got married in Mexico, and he served in the USAF for 4 years. He is also a Texas A&M grad and used to compete in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association's team-roping competitions. He's a legit cowboy and is considered by many to be the reigning king of country music.

This George Strait song is classic Texas swing music. He did his farewell tour and closed out his long and highly successful career with shows in Cowboy Stadium. He was joined by his close fried Alan Jackson and they sang the CMA award winner "Murder on Music Row". (Live version posted by johnbhoy 55.) When they sing about 'tell the 'possum to go home' they're referring Country great George Jones's nickname 'Possum. He closed with All My Ex's and the stage had so many country stars on stage he barely sang a word of his own song!

My hometown is Texarkana so this was always a favorite of my dad's. He was the lead singer for his country and western band for 15 years while I was growing up and could sing just like George Strait. :) In fact, he could imitate MOST of the famous country stars of the time...George, Merle, Willie, you name it.

Hey Billy. This was written by the sadly late great songwriter Whitey Schafer who passed in 2019. He has written many big country hits for some of Country's biggest stars. George's delivery for sure made him and this song the perfect pairing.
