These Survival Exercises Will Save Your Life (LEARN THEM NOW!) | Fit For Survival

Learn These Fitness Survival Skills (They May Just Save Your Life)
FIT FOR SURVIVAL
Maybe it's a fire, maybe it's an angry mob, or maybe you're in a frantic search for a loved one. Whatever it is, in an intense situation you're going to need physical survival skills. And the exercises for these five survival scenarios may just help to save your life.
1: The Chase
Exercises Needed For The Chase:
LISS - Low Intensity Steady State (Treadmill, Walking Outside)
Low Intensity Steady State is an excellent way to help increase your body's efficiency for cardiovascular endurance and VO2 MAX (maximal oxygen consumption). Aim for a “zone 1” in order to help build your base and force certain physiological changes, such as increased capillarization and enhanced mitochondrial density; the biochemical processes of respiration and energy production.
Low intensity steady state should remain easy, and a brisk 45 minute walk or bike ride are great examples. Try incorporating this training anywhere from 2 - 3 days a week or more, depending on your schedule.
HIIT - High Intensity Interval Training (Jump Rope, Sprinting)
Introduce High Intensity Interval Training to promote maximal oxygen consumption, which is “zone 4”. This will train the body to be able to push to the limit and accelerate your fitness levels very quickly. Make sure to do a proper warm-up beforehand to avoid injury, and introduce a cool-down to help flush out lactic acid build up at the end. Intervals will typically last anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 minutes, with short active rest in between. Incorporate this training 2 - 3 days a week and try not to exceed 20 minutes per workout as it can take a toll on your body and its systems.
2: The Climb
Exercises needed for The Climb:
Band Assisted Pull-Ups
To do a proper pull up, you’ll want to practice an actual pull up. That can be tough if you’re not strong enough to do one yet. Thankfully there is the band assisted pull-ups. This will lesson the difficulty by alleviating your bodyweight on your muscles from a band. Focus on scapular depression, elbows placed down and back, tense core, and flexion in your elbows - all the muscles working in unison to pull your body up. Start with a higher resistance band and slowly work and build strength until you decrease the resistance and assistance, finally reaching a pull-up with your own bodyweight.
3: The Push
Exercises needed for The Push:
Standard Push-Ups
This is either your progression from a knee push-up, or you already have the strength to do a push-up, either way - the push-up is an excellent tool to build strength, endurance and confidence. Keep your body straight by tensing your core, your shoulders locked back, and your elbows tighter to your body. This will ensure you’re hitting all the right muscles, and creating less stress on the joints.
4: The Jump
Exercises needed for The Jump:
Squats
An essential movement for most things in your life, and one especially to learn if you want to jump high. Squats will activate and develop your glutes, quads, hamstrings, and core - muscles needed to attain a higher and farther jump. Place your feet in a somewhat wide stance with toes pointed to a comfortable position. Push your hips back and squat down below parallel. Keep your back straight, feet flat on the ground and knees following your toes.
5: The Swim
Exercises needed for The Swim:
Swimming
To get better at something, you have to do that particular thing. This is called “training specificity”. To get better and more confident at swimming, you’re going to have to swim. Find a local pool, lake or river and swim anywhere from 10 - 30 minutes a day and slowly increase your time in the water. Try to incorporate different styles of swimming, like: free style, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Swimming is an excellent full body, low impact cardio that will only benefit you.

The most common survival situations and how to train for them: 1. Acute injury or disaster in an urban setting, usually at home or on the road. How to train for it: - balance and coordination exercises (to reduce risk of injury) - walking (flat ground and stairs) - crawling - hopping on one foot - carrying and/or dragging (to save someone else) - running - Krav Maga (to fight an armed assailant) - general strength training Notes: - carrying and/or dragging injured persons may result in worsening existing injuries, so only resort to it when necessary 2. Getting lost. How to train for it: - vocal chord exercises (to ask a stranger "Hey, where am I?") - orienteering - hiking - balance and coordination exercises (to reduce risk of injury) - rope descents (if you get lost in the wilderness, you are most likely carrying paracord, so this type of training is helpful) Notes: - climbing is extremely rarely useful, as it's risky and fatiguing; it's almost always worth walking around the long way instead - if you are planning to go out into the wild, let people know exactly when and where you'll go to, and tell them when to expect your return 3. Acute injury or disaster in the wilderness. How to train for it: - orienteering - hiking - climbing (or descending, to be more specific) - swimming (only truly worthwhile if you are actively out on the water) - carrying - dragging The most important survival skills have nothing to do with fitness, though! If you can already walk on your own two feet, you need to spend time learning basic first aid, reading maps, exercising common sense and caution, talking, finding water, making fire, creating shelters and avoiding as well as identifying risks.

A lot of people underestimate what just general strength training will do for you in terms of injury prevention. If you can deadlift 500lbs, do you really think you'll hurt your back bending over to pick up a kid? Always recommend getting your whole body strong, it'll help you in everything. And if you train with giant sets, you'll even get really good cardio, without having to do cardio. Although I still recommend cardio

Have you ever had to do first aid in a real life scenario? Fitness MATTERS

  • @miskee11

    @miskee11

    2 жыл бұрын

@@MAGAMAN You do have a point, but carrying a deadly weapon is, in most cases, illegal. Krav Maga, on the other hand, is not illegal, and it specifically teaches you to disarm threats. In any case, you could still end up being convicted for manslaughter. And yes, I have had to do first aid in real life on several occasions. I've administered first aid to tens of people suffering from common medical problems such as heat strokes, cuts, bruises, sun burns and broken bones. I have also been given emergency first aid in at least two cases of vehicular collision (car & bike), and for that I am very thankful. About 11 years ago my grandfather also passed away in my presence, and I did my best to give him first aid, but unfortunately nothing could have been done at that point. Fitness definitely matters, but training specificity matters for survival as well. Survival is rarely about cardiovascular endurance. You could throw the most fit guy on this planet into a deserted island, and if he has no idea how to find water, he could be gone in a week -- or less, if he eats random poisonous plants in desperation. His ability to do a hundred pushups in a row becomes an unnecessary skill. While you may not have experienced an emergency situation yet, you will likely experience one later in your life. Learning basic first aid skills, like what to do (or not to do) when someone has fallen horribly, eaten something toxic or having a seizure etc. will prepare you to help AND survive in these situations. Simply reading a first aid book or taking a 2-6 hour CPR course will arm you for a long time.

Agreed. It was really great, well written and directed. I love how this channel puts health and well being before aesthetics when it comes to fitness. This video goes to show it, demonstrating how important it is to have those skills in life treating situations. Buff Dudes, I'd love to see more of this series. Maybe you guys can talk about scenarios like having to carry someone (the many different ways you can do it and the exercises to do each), climbing a rope (up and down), balancing yourself in a tight spot and maybe defending yourself in a fight? I know this is not a fighting or a self defense channel, but maybe give your input about the subject, like for example balancing having some fighting lessons while doing exercises on your own. Also stay safe while doing these. And stay Buff 💪

Damn, that's motivating. You got me with this one. Starting tomorrow, I'll pick up my morning routine of hitting the gym again so I don't just pay them but actually get something out. Your channel got me out of the slouching loop for so many times in the past years now, and I just want to say thank you for that.

Loving these! Good job. My suggestion for How to survive would be office worker, yep. How to survive sitting in front of a computer for 8 hours only interrupted by endless meetings, a lunch break that is too short and the mad dash to the exit to prevent getting stuck in traffic on the way home.

Love your videos guys! I've been watching for a few years now and am entertained and educated because of them. Originally I was drawn to the channel because of Hudson. I too am a father and was finding it hard to get motivated to do my exercise routines and used the excuse that I'm a busy family man. I love the whole family dynamic you guys have with your parents, significant others and each other. Keep up the great work and I'll keep watching, laughing and learning!
