Plantsbymelissa loves Alocasias, and she has quite a few of them; they are all big and healthy. Melissa grows her Alocasias in pon with a lot of light and humidity. I hope this helps you with your Alocasia journey.❤ The two I had died at a year old they got rot...dry rot I think I'm an underwaterer😮😊

as someone who grows calathea and ferns, i think that when it comes to ferns, they are super sensitive to shifts in environment. moreso when it comes to temp and humidity rather than lighting. i've got a crocodile fern and blue star fern - two of some of the toughest ferns out there. but i noticed that the Second temps in my house when down at the start of fall, they were first plants to drop leaves. not even my calatheas went into dormancy due to being acclimated. i think that ferns can only acclimate to an extent. they don't seem to like sudden shifts, no matter how subtle. good news is thanks to most of them being rhizomatous, they can bounce back once conditions are consistently warm from day to night. I have a good feeling that your clarinervium will make a comeback! it's just had a lot more setbacks compared to your other anthurium

That honestly makes so much sense! Thank you for sharing your experience!! And thanks for the encouragement regarding the clarinervium, haha. I think she’s gonna be alright in the long run 🤞🏻

For anthuriums you should look into Plant Gay for Life channel. He talks about how anthuriums do not need humidity (unless you’re using a grow tent) but can create humidity for the roots by planting them in a vase with spag moss. Just keep up on when they need water to prevent yellowing edges.

A few Alocasia are also giving me headaches...namely my Frydek from your friend! GAH! I'm hoping it's still just acclimating to my space and the new pon/leca sub-straight I gave her. BUT I am getting a new leaf while the remainder of the og leaves slowly die off... 🙄

I found propping directly into soil and in a ziploc bag has worked best for me and the Hoyas just take off so much faster and plastic pots only for me

I used to have 4 healthy Alocasia and 7 Phalaenopsis Orchids and put them into pon since I heard they would love it and it would be less efford to keep them happy. Well, within two weeks all of the roots on my orchids were rotted, though I tried to keep them from drying out, whilst not sitting in water.. When my first Alocasia dropped a leave one week later, I checked on it's roots: root rot 😨 same story with the rest of them.. 🙈 now I am hoping I can at least save the alocasia, but with almost no roots and one crappy leaf each, I don't have high hopes.. 😬

I have Monstera Thai in pon, anther Thai in Leca, Albo kn Leca, peace lilies (var. and non) in Leca, Hoya in pon. I’m ordering more pon and all my Alocasia will be rinsed and added to pon ❤. By the end of this year, I want to be done with soil or soil less mix altogether. Just semi hydro and hydro only as well with pebbles. I hate a plant just sitting in water LOL

My Brandtianum got itself together with a bright growlight on it, on a pole and i water weekly. Its starting to get leaves bigger than i thought Brandtianum grew. Humidity is average 60% but that hasnt really had an effect on its growth like the other changes

I had a hard time with mine too. Nothing but runners. Tried more sun, more humidity, something to climb (kinda helped but barely). I troed to propogate it to start over and it didnt even root well for that. It got to the point where it declined because I couldn't figure it out and prioritized plant care on my others. It had a slow demise but I'm a lot less stressed about it now that its gone amd i gave it a good go haha.

2024, new plan you don't grow you gotta go. Brandi looked like yours, burle marx kept growing then dying back its roots were terrible, rojo congo dwarf, Paraiso verde wouldnt grow it stayed little it was a shipment just never grew let's just say they had a wonderful burial. I was so stressed trying to help them. Ones i have now are doing good and so I'm I. 😄

I finally gave up on my Brandi. I loved that plant but I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s only possible to grow it nicely in south Florida or another similar environment. I gave her and all the props away. I’m done.
