For me it’s the philodendron melanochrysum 😅 I can’t stand that plant. I think it’s way overhyped imo 🫣😭

There was some you listed that I actually like BUT I liked hearing why you disliked them and thought this video was entertaining nonetheless ☺️ I would’ve loved to hear you roast more plants though 😂🫶🏽

This is the only one of these videos where I agreed with all of them 😅 I don't hate any of them, there's just something with each of these plants that doesn't ~vibe~ with me lol

At the end of the day the most important thing is to like what you like because you like it. There are a lot of plants out there that that I find visually appealing but would not work well in my growing conditions and so therefore would be a waste of money and time. Grow what you love❤🎉

I like your sweater. I don't think you need to apologize for not liking these plants 🌿 well at least not for me. We all have different preferences of plants, and that is okay 👍

you struck a nerve when the Jacklyn came up 😂😂. I think it’s such a VIBE lol it’s so exotic looking I can’t find another plant that can even imitate the look. even the stem is like WOW 🤩! But that’s just my 2 cents lol. Now the rest of em I agree they look like basic b regular degular plants lol

there's a reason that it's popular, that's for sure! I can appreciate that it's a unique plant and I'm glad that other people like it!

totally agree with you on the jacklyn, ficus, and hoya. I think pileas only look good when the stem has matured to a woody texture / they have a cool planter. then the crazy way they sometimes grow can look kind of whimisical if paired with symmetrically balanced plants. I really don't understand the hype around monstera as a genus (excluding the deliciosa varieties of course). there seems to be a pattern of slow growth and fussy-ness even among the green species.

I think that there ends up being a handful of exceptions with the plants that I don't like depending on the way that people style or grow them!! it really goes to show how powerful something as simple as a planter or placement can be... but it's also dangerous for me if I decide that I want that plant, but lo and behold, I just liked the plant in THAT person's collection!! you might be onto something with that Monstera insight... I've noticed that my peru and siltepecana in particular have been so fussy!

@@sproutswithjoy I agree with that on so many levels! 😆some of my favorite plantubers have plants that i would never buy, but the way it grows in their house looks So Good! the way i see it, monstera have many of the same light/vertical real estate demands as philodendron, but without the reward lol

Agree that I really don't like these except the Shivereana... I like it but could not grow it so makes me not want it. My others I don't like are all anthurium, most philodenron (I don't care how variegated!), and the weird tropical cacti that are popular right now.

Well, you know what they say - talk and/or create buzz about something (plants) and hype will follow. How quickly we create environments where we define things to be equal to being on the cool bus or in the inner circle of social media.

I didn't like Kerrii, but I saw them quite often at the beginning of my plants journey. So I bought 1 cutting when it was cheap 5 years ago. Now it grows and grows sooo freaking many leaves in many pots. I even neglected them because I just can't have that many ... 😂😅

  • @dannini

As someone who loves hoyas and has a planty collection almost exclusively of hoyas, I also dislike the kerri! I’ve had three before (inner var, outer var, and splash) and they all had the same ugly growth pattern with unpredictable node spacing, high likelihood of deformed leaves or just aborting baby leaves completely resulting in naked nodes, and thick stems that were so difficult to trellis or keep contained. Happily got rid of them all! 😅

I paid a pretty penny for my outer variegated Kerrii last year. After 9 months it started to grow a leaf and I knocked it off. After that, I was just done. It ended up with a fungal infection and died. I don’t care. I also bought 2 of the inner variegated before I gave up on the outer variegated plant and they both died. Good riddance. A friend gave me a cutting of the green form and if it roots, fine. If it doesn’t that’s okay too. I’m not buying anymore.

So on that one leaf hoya thing, I was totally taken advantage of when I was a houseplant beginner. I really wanted a hoya obuvata, so i purchased 3 cuttings on etsy. I received only 2 and 1 died quickly, but the 3rd one survived. Years later, I still have only ONE leaf. The seller sent me 2 leaves with without nodes...I didnt know any better and only complained that I didn't receive 3. The seller said they would send me another, but never did and they closed their shady shop.

Agreed on most of these plants but I love the Ficus shiveriana! The other ficus types have always had to me the boring "office plant" kind of vibe. It may well be that the shiveriana is a gateway drug into the world of Ficus though becouse I've cought my self eyeing some abidjans lately. 😄
