Thermoworks Smoke x 4 | Unboxing and First Impressions

Are you sort of over apps? I'm getting there. In this video, I get my hands on my new Smoke X 4, from the one and only Thermoworks. This is the ultimate in stand alone meat thermometers. No apps required. All you need to do is be within 1.24 miles of your smoker and you can keep up with up to 4 meat probes at once! Ive used it several times since the making of this video and I will give it the American Smoke stamp of approval! Let me know what you think of this setup in the comments below. Also, if you have a BBQ tool that you think is a step above the rest, let me know, and I may try to get my hands on it for a review video. Thanks for watching and Smoke on!!!

If the temps are accurate as you say and the price is right that is a set I'd definitely like to own.

Nice video review for sure. I happen to like the app on my pit boss because I do a LOT of low & slow overnights so in the morning I can check the temps real quick before heading out to pull and wrap. Having 4 probes lets me keep an eye on all 4 butts on the smoker at a glance. Maybe it’s just me being lazy, but it works for me!

I had a few instances where I checked my Pit Boss app in the middle of the night and somehow my pit temp was adjusted to the lowest temp. Woke up to a mess. After a few times of that, I got real gun shy.

Was checking similar ThermoPro probes and they seem to experience battery life issues with theirs…might be something to keep an eye on. On a side note…How does everyone else keep from getting all tied up in their probe wires, or where to put them as your trying to do other things in the chamber ?? I have the little holders but they get in the way when the smoker is crowded

I just manage my wires as I go. I’ve done several long duration cooks with this smoke x 4 and the batteries are still going strong. I don’t think there is any risk of then dying during a cook unless it stars almost dead. Thanks for watching!

I agree with you about the apps. I use the Meater and I have another pair set. I don't pay attention to time much. I go by temp.

@@TheAmericanSmoke Quick question. Have you ever done a pork butt on a rotisserie?

@johnmanthey2683 I have not. I’ve been looking into rotisseries though. I bet it would produce some fine Q. Have you done it?

@@TheAmericanSmoke I have not done a butt on the rotisserie. i have done turkey, chicken, baby backs and pork tenderloins on the rotisserie. I have a 22" Only Fire on my Weber Performer. Makes the best damn chicken ever. I have a 10.74 lb butt in the Camp Chef Deluxe 24 tomorrow. In the hopper a 1:1:1 mix pecan, mesquite, charcoal pellets in the hopper. For added smoke I'll fill long smoke tube with hickory. I've been thinking of getting a basket for the rotisserie and trying wings. Usually I do those on a cast iron grate with center circle out using the vortex. On the rotisserie I sometimes us the SNS Slow n Sear and their drip pan but, I really like the Weber charcoal baskets wit a drip pan in the middle. No grate.

@@TheAmericanSmoke I do like the Only Fire rotisserie over the Weber. Only Fire has the counter balance weight. Weber's does not. Besides I prefer stainless over the painted black. I think it's more durable if properly cared for. bar Keepers friend is really goo stainless cleaner.
