Professor David James’s videos are simply the best, most realistic self-defense videos out there. Period.

This video suddenly reminded me of my dad who didn't like fighting at all. But at the same time, he gave me a tennis ball, and showed me a little game. This game was to punch and kick this ball against the wall. Without it touching the ground. That little game taught me more than I would have ever gotten from a Dojo.

Great advice, I was shaking the water wrong in my mind for a long time.

My God Sensi. Yiou are 1000 percent right. I love Aikido but it took me years to learn that Martial Arts is an art form. Street defense is something completely different.

When I first started Aikido I was told to grab a senior student by the gi. I had a Judo background. When I grabbed him I grounded and he couldn’t pull his technique off and I quote he said “you are grabbing me wrong!” TRUTH!

I have belts in different martial arts. I also boxed and wrestled. Whenever I get into a fight I leaned on the boxing and wrestling because I knew the techniques I learned in the dojo just would not work. I got introduced to competitive years ago down here in Florida if I lived in New York I would definitely study with this guy. He goes into more than just a techniques he also goes into reading body language and situational confrontations and how to mitigate circumstances or fight your way out if you have to

Thank you Prof Dave for teaching the real street offense. I always said the bad guy is not going to just stand there and let you defend yourself. Usually there are two or more and armed. It really comes down to denial, that what people practice must work, it has to, cause it's Martial Arts, it suppose to work. But the realty is, what is practiced is the Art. What is learned, is not meant to work in real life, it's meant to instruct the art.

There’s that video of the Sensei showing some technique and he’s not getting it off because the student isn’t ’cooperating right’ and he gets all mad and they end up throwing punches at each other.

I am thankful for the reality based information gained by this program. Street smarts 101, NOT "dojo performance". Definition of insanity: finding something that works, and then not doing it.

Some of the hardest dudes to fight with on the street were those that fought like sissies.... akward motion, not your oriniary motion...yeah...But this is just in school yard fighting...as far as the street a whole new ball game...some dude lit up on pcp with animal strength of 10 men... Lol

this was Bruce lees argument he would talk about how people would not practice realistictly that is why he emphasised sparing so much

"No you didn't attack me right!" LOL. I remember my Shotokan training didn't help me for the street. Right now, my krav maga training has been the best, along with impact style training with the ballistic suits.

Still, Shotokan helped me with coordination, movement, and the techniques were good to know.

Practicing the wrong thing over and over again does not make the technique perfect. Only a perfect mess. Oss Professor.

Professor. Please show us real footage of confrontations you have while working on the door and how you deal with it. Otherwise I'm going to think all this you teach is unproven. Have you at any time experienced being mobbed or surrounded by attackers? Show us through real footage that what you hype preach about that you put it into practice.
