I studied Shotokan Karate and a couple other styles of karate for years and I had a 1st Generation Japanese instructor who used to tell us from time to time…”you have black belt but don’t walk down the street thinking you can fight just because you have black belt. Sir! Your videos give me chills…I grew up in the city of Philadelphia. But, I didn’t grow up in the streets. I later went on to become an Emergency room doctor and I saw first hand the results of the vicious animal brutality of the streets. I also had friends who “walked on the darker side of things” at one point who changed their path, thank God, who showed me things they used to do to people on the street. It was chilling and made me glad I never ever had to face that. I’d have had my ass handed to me and I was a fairly decent at my martial arts…BUT, I realized that didn’t make me a warrior. Your videos prepare for survival…real survival!! There is no sensei to call “Yame!” When a stranger puts their hands on you or threatens to, they mean to do you serious harm…this is not a game, there are no do overs. Your videos should be “A real Public Service announcement.” GOD BLESS you and Kenny and your team for the work you are doing. More good people need to see this. Violence is everywhere and you never know when it may be “your turn”, so watch learn and try to be ready. And remember no help is coming, even if there are people all around you. Save yourself! Watch and “PAY ATTENTION!” 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

That is so true, in the Dojo we learn the art, but to apply the same techniques must be modify based on the three principles Vision Breathing Balance. And you strike where you cause the most pain based on these principles. That's why professor Davis is nocking the Martial art moves, cause their not based on Reality, their based on teaching the student the art, the movements. It's up to the student to grow and apply on what he/she learned to the principles Vision Breathing Balance. Professor James, Kenny and everyone there, you are the best.

Professor David isn't mocking Martial Arts, that wouldn't work He's picking specific manoeuvres that wouldn't be as effective. Are you sure there's only 3 principles.

A good black belt knows the truth. I did a quick little demonstration, not that different from what was in this video. just messing around with my kid. A few years ago It got the attention of the lead instructor, and he said to the other instructor. What I did. Just made their martial art, obsolete. It's all about keeping it real.

Thank you so much, Professor David James and Kenny! I have a disability called Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) type 1. SMA is a disease that severely weakens my muscles as I age. I am unable to walk, eat, or breathe without assistance. I rely on a ventilator around the clock to help me breathe. Even though I cannot move/train realistically, I'm constantly training in situational awareness. You're absolutely right about people with disabilities needing to be more aware of their surroundings. I train with AMAS (Adaptive Martial Arts Science) under the instructor, Brandon Ryan. He sends me a lot of your videos. Thank you for creating content that isn't crap! Keep up the good work!

Telling it like it is. You will find very few videos that tell you the absolute basics of how to engage when it’s a question of fight or flight. These guys are experts and so they can identify their targets and hit them with precision. This takes years of knowledge and practice but seems so easy on the screen. Almost all strikes are to the head and upper body and therefore also look impressive. These exercises are for the Dojo, not for street emergencies. Hitting others in the face is definitely not recommended - these days there are always those with phone cameras and that sort of evidence if the police turn up will always go against you initially - although it’s a natural instinct when we give in to our emotions instead of keeping focused on the main aim and that is to injure your opponent correctly so as to then go to the next phase which is flight. Dropping someone to the floor and then going down with them is also a no-no in the street, the most unsuspected individuals could join in and speed of execution is your goal. Now, the most important thing to keep in mind is that someone with an injured leg can’t run. This must be your priority: neutralize the leg. One leg is enough and the advantage is that there are two of them, versus one head, so you can choose whichever side suits you best. When confronted raise the arms as if to offer surrender. This catches the opponent off guard, keeps your head protected and also acts as an upper body stabilizer for the kick. Don’t kick with your toes out in front - much the same as with the hand; fingers and toes break with relative ease, that’s why punching isn’t recommended and open palm strikes are - use the heel instead. A sideways motion catching and displacing the kneecap is ideal. If you miss, you’ll at least have made the leg double sideways and if not breaking something is at least extremely painful; a straight blow to the knee will make the opponent feel sick and if hard enough will have them out of the game for long enough for you to get away. Also, on camera, it doesn’t show you to be either an expert or willing to inflict purposeful injury, rather a clumsy, spur of the moment way out. Now start practising at home so your “clumsiness” is highly effective. Like the man said, the more you do it, the better at it you are.

Boy you are not kidding! The Dojo is padded and the concrete and the unpredictable environment is something that you have to plan for...Anyone can be easily and irreparably hurt. Your training and techniques can and will mean nothing. If violence is geared towards you...You must do as well and this is not the time to be playing around. Do not worry to the authorities...As the old adage goes.."Better To Be Judged By Twelve...Than Carried By Six." Do not let yourself be another statistic.... You really cannot control much of anything, even if you are a predator or trained artist, and know what is what and then things that were planned...All go wrong to the person that gives it back and even Karma, and the unforgiving nature of the streets....And people! Peace
