As a woman who's husband left during my high risk pregnancy, I commend all these great fathers who stepped into parenting, scared as hell but did whatever they needed to do. Being a single parent isn't easy but the rewards are endless. My daughter just graduated from medical school, has the best husband & I couldn't be more proud. As parents we all want is the best for our children.

At 56 my life changed when a little girl was born to my son and his girlfriend. Neither of the two parents were responsible then, nor now, and capable of taking care of her. She just turned 7, and this past March the adoption was completed, and she is ours. Yes, my retirement plans have changed, my entire life has changed, and just now my little girl came and asked for help only moments ago - while I was writing this tribute to her. Yes, she changed my life and every day I struggle to do my best to give her the childhood she deserves; my little gift from God.

Never had any kids, but every time I hear that line I’m reminded of an old tough biker dude whose wife rode off & left him with a baby boy. Shortly afterwards, he married a woman with a young child, & the artwork overflowed on the refrigerator. He said, “We’re gonna have to get a bigger refrigerator!”. That was so out of character for him, it made me smile. Unfortunately, his son passed away a hero, 13 years later, fighting a fire.

This has me balling right now brotha. I remember when this song came out. I was 21 and had just been kicked out of Virginia Military Institute my senior year. I’m from Richmond, VA and some friends of mine had decided we were going to move to Orlando or San Diego. Next thing I know, my daughters mother is pregnant. My life had done a total 180. All my hopes and aspirations for life were gone in a span of 6 months. This song tugged at my heart 18 years ago. Wound up raising my daughter on my own for the most part. Those days of her dragging that teddy bear flew by way too fast. She is now 18 and went to visit Denver two months ago. She’ll be back soon to pack the rest of her stuff to go “Hang out on the west coast. “ This song has come full circle for me and I’ve lived every verse. Thank you Mr. Mobley for writing such a bittersweet heartfelt song. It has meant more than you will ever know to me. God bless! And he cried "There goes my life There goes my future, my everything I love you, Baby, goodbye" I love you Isabella!!

Saw your post and was filled with admiration. Most people when life throws them adversity they say why me, if I understand your post correctly you became a father at 15 and it worked out to be something good. Most people would have considered this to be a life altering mistake and you made it it out to be a good thin. I admire your actions and the way you made lemonade out of sour lemons. I truly admire you and wish I as well as most people had the follow through to make something fod out of something that most people would consider terrible. I truly admire you and don’t even know who you are.

FINALLY, at age 56 in March of '23, my wife & I adopted a sibling set of 2 boys & 1 girl. I obviously love them all, but my daughter & I have an incredible bond, and I love her more than I thought possible. NOW this song takes on a new meaning to me and will no doubt have me weeping uncontrollably the day she leaves the house.

The truth is singers would be nothing without the incredible songs of the great songwriters. I can't tell you how many songs have been sung that are forgetful as soon as the song is over no matter how incredibly well sung as opposed to just an average singer singing an incredible song that sticks with you the rest of the day and you're humming it everywhere you go. Then of course those rare times where incredible singers get paired up with incredible songs....which is what turns singers into superstars.

Please always let your youngins know you love them by saying you love them and showing a little compassion. My last words to my son was "I love ya and I'll see ya when I see ya". I could go into the whole thing which wasn't bad. Point being is tell all your loved ones you love them and talk with them. try to gain some wisdom from the older folks.

I remember that I didn't fit in with the crowd as I was wearing tattered jeans and button down shirt that was untucked. Everyone else was dressed to the nines in finding Wendell. However I struck up a conversation with him and he bought me a beer. I noticed he had an award ,but didn't ask what it was for, only later did I find out that he had written this song and had won the award for writing it. Still one of the best songs Kenny ever recorded.
