I love my kids, but that is no reason to pretend they can do no wrong! For probably four or five years straight when our daughter was young, the wife and I would have a meeting with her new teachers at the beginning of the school year to warn them: She is devious, and she WILL try to goof off and do absolutely nothing in your class if you don't make sure she is actually working. We would warn them that they needed to make her actually show them the work she claims to have done every day or two, because she will bluff them like a pro poker player otherwise. Still, there was at least one every year who she managed to trick, and we would end up in a meeting about how she was suddenly two weeks behind on homework. She is not nearly as bad about using her powers for evil these days, but ngl, there was a while there where I thought we might be raising a James Bond villain!

EDIT: I just got fired from a kennel tech job bc my coworker was bit in the FACE by a german shep, and I brought it up at a meeting. I was upset it was not being handled correctly. This dog was KNOWN to bite. but it was still allowed to be in daycare bc the owners did not believe that THEIR dog was the one that did it. their dog attacked other dogs, and still, they believed we were lying. The company would rather have the customers money than ban the dog from daycare. After this meeting, I was let go for being late by 20 mins due to a highway shut down. my coworker was fired for having "a bad attitude". In TX, they don't rly need a reason to fire you. it's an "at-will" state. I worked at a doggie daycare, and we had owners SO oblivious to how TERRIBLY behaved their pets were. We had a regular- a labradoodle named MAV- who was the WORST. ugh everyone dreaded the days he came in because this dog would jump up to attack your ponytails, masks, leashes, you name it. this dog ripped my mask off and tore an earring out of my ear. you know what the owner said? "well you shouldnt have been wearing a mask around him". like, what? take responsibility for your awful child smfh the dog also was notorious for stealing stuff out of our pockets/counters to chew up. we lost a LOT of expensive equipment to that dog.

Vanessa- What you said about grooming an animal with their owner present reminds me of my pediatric rotation in nursing school. When we had to perform a treatment on a patient, we took them into the treatment room without their parents. @@hannahdyson7129 I totally get where you are coming from. Unfortunately, there are too many people in the world ready, willing, & able to take advantage of or abuse those who can't defend themselves. I want to assure you that I took my nursing oath very seriously: to be an advocate for those who could not advocate for themselves. And, being a Virgo, I'm Mother Earth, very protective. On more than one occasion I put everything on the line to advocate for my patients. If someone wanted to harm them on my watch, they would have to go through me first. The purpose of having kids away from their parents during treatment, was so that the kids wouldn't associate the pain & discomfort they had during treatment with their parents- they would feel dissociation, & their parents weren't 'hands-on' involved in the treatment. That way the kids wouldn't be angry with their parents. Hopefully, the medical staff became familiar with the kid before the treatment & the staff explained the treatment well enough, considering the kid's age, that it decreased their anxiety level. I'm a big one for making sure that my patients know exactly what is going to happen before it does. That's a throwback from my own childhood when a doctor & his assistant didn't prep me for a vaccination & I was scared to death. Because of that incident, I can't have an injection, blood draw, or IV start without watching the person doing it. Turning my head away gives me great anxiety.

The bit about the protective instinct is 100% my pup. When we first rescued him he became so attached to and protective of me, the vet had to take him to the back for all his exams. And whenever someone took him from me, I had to put him on the floor and step away before they could pick him up. He's gotten much better as he got used to the vet/grooming environment and mellowed in his old age, but they still won't let me come into the room until they're done fussing with him.

As a dog walker, I can confirm about dogs' behavior in the house/around their human vs. their behavior when with someone else. In fact I used to walk the dog of a couple who each had completely different experiences walking their own dog! They just had such different temperaments and the dog picked up on it - she would do things the wife observed and the husband would be like "she's never done that on any of my walks."

I grew up grooming dog's at my aunt's salon and I know how unglamorous it can be, but you always make it look fun 💀💀💀 ets I should say I grew up washing, nail clipping, drying, vacuuming hair and poop scooping😂
