“There Are People ABUSING The System!” | People With Disability Given Help To Work From Home

People with disabilities could be given more help to work from home as part of plans to reduce the numbers claiming sickness benefits, the Work and Pensions Secretary has said.
Mel Stride said new plans could see those with health conditions which have kept them out of work “given the right support and opportunities to move off benefits and towards the jobs market”.
TalkTV’s Peter Cardwell is joined by Former Minister for Disabled People Justin Tomlinson to discuss the Government policy announcement.
Peter: “There are people abusing the system!”
Justin: “We need to improve the support for when people enter the system, but crucially we need to keep people in work as their health conditions change.”

I'm nearing sixty with multiple ailments including osteoarthritis in my spine. I can be bedridden for weeks on end, the pain is excruciating beyond words to the point I've considered taking the easy way out. Now we have the worry of being hammered by this government for being disabled. I'm sick of it all.

Worked all our life, paid all our taxes, didn’t take time off sick, and yet if either myself or my husband gets dementia and has to go into a home, all our savings and investments, which we sacrificed for, will be taken from us to pay for care. In the house next door, lives a couple who have never worked, who claim for many and varied conditions, which I can testify they don’t have, they have a better lifestyle than us and their care will be free, should they require it. Is this fair?

How proud must Britons feel supporting this government targeting the most vulnerble the genuine sick and disabled Britons, why target those Britons the genuine vulnerble, if this government was genuine to clamp down on bogus sickness claims, why target the genuine disabled and mental illness and not those claiming to have Anxiety which is self inflicted medically speaking the answer, this is to pay for migration nothing to do with helping the vulnerble into a better life change.

@@richallenxbox1976 Yep I'm one of them! I don't consider myself to be that old. I'm 53 this year and don't have a clue about computers. My daughter has tried to help me with using a mobile to send emails but I can't always remember how to do it and get so frustrated with it that she does it for me. I know how to access KZread on my phone but things like ordering my repeat prescriptions on line is a pain in the backside. As most things seem to be online these days it's incredibly annoying. UC journals and job applications etc. I preferred the pre Internet era with job applications by post or in person and the Jobcentre would help with getting an interview with an employer. You could walk into a bank branch and call your GP surgery to order repeat prescriptions. You could get a face to face appointment with a GP so they could check you over physically instead of going by how you sound over the phone. Video calls for interviews, doctors appointments and DWP assessments confuse the hell out of me as well. I'm sure their are many people out there with disabilities who feel the same. So how on earth do they expect us to get a job when we have these techno barriers in place. Especially when there are people, like myself, who have issues with retaining new information.

What hope do any of us have when we are not encouraging the next generation etc to work. We are writing them off for a lifetime of benefits because if they are claiming early in adult life what hope to we have once confidence has it rock bottom to ever want to work.We are very fortunate as places like Africa etc. No work means no food and the family have to support you. If you work no sick pay if off and no pensions. Why should some of us work invariably for pittance, feel utterly drained so that the lazy ones can stay at home and contribute nothing to society. No one is saying full time work but to do absolutely zero hours day in day out, month and year out is really very questionable.
