Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.

Kevin, if you add a pinch of salt into the juice, it will sweeten it a lot more. Just a tiny pinch. Try it not in the big gallon drink, but try it in the small glass and see if you like the taste.

Last year, I instituted "Food Math Friday" into my homeschooling curriculum because I found I needed a set day to process all our veggies and do ferments and canning and all that. So today, on our first Food Math Friday of the year, my oldest (6) watched Kevin and wrote down all his instructions. He is now making cucumber limeade for his FMF lab. Thanks so much for your videos, they're useful in SO many capacities. God bless you and Sarah!

You want to talk about crime scene kitchens....my neighbors husband tried to make something involving spaghetti sauce and meat in the new pressure cooker without reading the directions fully. He removed the weight too soon. Sauce was spraying out all over the ceiling so he decided it would be a good idea to carry the pressure cooker to the sink and run old water over it but his method of getting it there didn't work out as planned. My neighbor came home to what looked like a jugular spay pattern all over the place in her kitchen, including the ceiling. I found out about the incident two days afterward when she called to ask what that incredible paint was I always use (Devoe, not available anymore). This was long before digital photography so I had to wait to see the photos. All I could say was at least it didn't explode, and she now had an incredible incident in her arsenal should she ever feel the need to use it against her husband. He could be a bit of a know it all type hence not reading the directions. 🤣😂🤣😂

@@sarah2.017 oh yes, he wanted to spend some of their vacation budget on painters because he didn't clean up fast enough and the sauce stained the walls and ceiling. I offered condolences knowing they were planning a big trip that year. She just smiled and said he bought the paint last night. My guess is that trump card came in really handy.⁷ Sorry for your pumpkin bread mishap. I once reheated a hard boiled egg in the microwave. It was too hot to bite into so I cut it in half to cool. As soon as the knife broke the surface it exploded everywhere. I missed church that day. Was cleaning egg up for hours.

Hi, Im going to definately make the cucumber limeaide...sounds awesome. every year We always have too many cucumbers..we went from 10 plants down to 2 and still get a ton of them..this year is the exception since I have been in the hospital on and off since January..that the good lord Im better now. I always make zuchinni bread but I found how to use cucumbers instead which is always a hit and I get requests to make more from friends and family..the way yo make it is similar to zuchinni but the changes are...you peel and seed the cucumber..you still grate or put in a foof processor on shred setting but then you put it in a strainer and let water go out of it for about 2 hours or more then your ready to start baking..that is my method but anyone can do what they like. God Bless

Question... If you're straining the juice, why bother peeling the cucumbers? It seems like leaving it on would add some extra nutrients (and maybe some color) to the drink, save some time, and the pigs would still get plenty of the peel in the pulp.

We would let our cucumbers go orange or yellow and even get some from the neighbors to make Lime Pickles...our favorite! Because the older cucumbers have a lot of meaty flesh...just peel, scrape out the seeds, cut the flesh into spears and soak in pickling lime for 24 hrs, rinse 3 times, then cook in vinegar, sugar, water, pickling spices til the cuke turns clear...put in jars...your done....taste like sweet-n-sour pickles, delicious! And the pickling lime makes them so crisp not soft or mushy, the best

Also, you could make Tzatziki sauce that is great for dipping, as a sandwich spread, on pita and in general goes great with Mediterranean dishes. I take it you guys might make your own greek style yogurt? Also, you have lots of garlic from your garden. Just a thought.

if you leave the refrig pickles overnight you can ferment them a bit to get more nutrients out of them and good for tummy then place in fridge, you can ferment a bit longer too. Blessings and keep sharing.

Refrigerator pickles make me think of my grandfather. During the summer, he always had a bowl of brine with dill, onion, and sometimes garlic with thick slices of cucumber. I would sneak in the house and pick a few slices out whenever I could.

Thanks so much Kevin!! I have a ton of cukes that I was going to dehydrate, but now will be making this tonight. I also make your bread each week but have doubled the yeast, added a tiny bit of Honey, and a 1/4 cup of pumpkin seeds and sesame seeds. I also let the first rise go from 3 to 5 hours. And bake it in a cast iron bread pan!!

Hi Sara and Kevin, I made the cucumber juice this past weekend. I made ice cubes to add to my water. I also added some countrytime lemonade to the cucumber juice. It has a great flavor. Thank Yall so much for all the great ideas! My husband and I have learned alot. We freeze a lot of our garden veggies and we pressure canned 7 quarts of tomatoes yesterday for the 1st time. We watched Sara's video and uses our Ball canning book. Thanks again!

I've got a huge yellow Marketmore cucumber sitting that I missed over and over again while picking that I intend to de-seed soon and about 15 cucumbers in the fridge that I was wondering what to do with. I love the marketmore variety. I did a comparison with that and straight 8 this year and the marketmore are still producing nice fruit while the straight 8s were done over a month ago. We have pickles for years. I am going to make some of that juice today. Thanks for sharing Kevin.

I love your channel. I built a similar quail grow out pen last week that you also built in another video. I put a removable partition in the middle of it(Jesus inspired that) when the partition is removed an extra piece of hardware cloth is fastened with 2 small metric washers and screws. Thanks so much for the inspiration. Now to build a brooder, duck coop, rooster coop, and another quail pen for my breeders and layers.

You can also make tzatziki - a Greek dip made of grated or finely chopped cukes, garlic, yogurt or sour cream & garlic (yes, I used garlic twice because lotsa garlic makes it better). You squeeze the grated cukes to get rid of excess water & I use the liquid to make bread & soups. But I love the idea of making a drink with cuke juice.
