Long time follower of the channel. So long time indeed that when I first started following 8-9 years ago, I was a high school student who was trying to learn how to be a better dm, how to make better dnd games. Now after all these years I am a game designer working in digital games, applying the rules that the Big Ol' Badass Hankerin taught me. But somehow after all this time he still manages to bring more goods to the table and I'm learning new things. Awesome podcast series, love your work. Long Live Drunkens & Dragons / Runehammer! Greetings from Turkey, love you Ingrid.

i love the "core theme" simplicity of the dungeon, and the idea of always remembering that player agency is the key to providing players with a fun experience

Some golden nuggets here: "Don’t worry about explaining. Worry about describing." And: "Don't answer questions they don’t ask just because you know the answers are cool." Also, liked the football field analogy. As ever, great balance of humour and useful concepts. And LOL at "eyeballs deep" 👀😂

This advice for theming a dungeon is absolute gold. I'm running a pre-gen adventure module, but thinking about a *power word * for each location or location subsection is wonderful advice for flavor and getting into the mindset of the details. Can't recommend this one enough.

I once participated in a Larp that took place in a real mine. At the beginning we were in a 2 foot corridor that was 5 foot high. That corridor was 300 feet long and then took a sharp turn to the right. Man was that exciting 😄 I can tell you. I try to channel this feeling when my character in a ttrpg is in that position.

I started in 1e with a small group (DM + 2 or 3), and we all played 2 characters. It was just easier that way. In fact, when we ran thru the original Ravenloft, we had 3 players with 3 characters each. We tried not to play characters with radically different alignments, etc, but mostly we just tried not to metagame. Of course, we weren't all aspiring thespians staging our own Shakespearean dramedies, like the current trend, but it was still hi-res enough to make each character unique. And what I've wondered ever since is how many ways are there for running multiple characters, and how many more options does that give the GM (or the designer)? I have several ideas, and I like your sidekick one, too.

I run a NPC with my group, but im definitely not a dmpc. I always run a healer or a "fix-it" guy. I let the players take all the spotlight, and i keep the car running in the wasteland 😂😂

    1. Core power word 2. Whole truth 3. Tie in 4. Substance 5.Excuses for danger 6. Simple big facts small details 7. Describe don’t explain 8. Don’t answer questions they don’t ask 9. Don’t use twists and turns for no reason (I actually disagree with what he said here but the core idea is good)
