I think the husband should have been held accountable as well for leaving her alone with the children when he knew about the many red flags and also for getting her pregnant numerous times against the doctors advice.

The father may have been the one to leave the mother alone with the kids but he isn’t the one who drowned their children plus I don’t think he even knew that his wife was going to even drown the kids when he left plus he didn’t tell his wife to drown their children and besides he had to leave for his job so he can earn money to support his wife and kids so in a way he technically had nothing to do with the murder of their children

True. It's hard when those you are trying to help, live in denial. They don't see the truth. Medications don't solve the whole problem. That's why I go the extra yard. I take phonecalls all times of day and night. We all at one point or another suffer depression. A person need to forget about pride, what others may think. There are support groups out there. Counseling, therapy helps. What is sad, many mental health places are closing thier doors. This been going on since the late 80s when hospitals let those who had severe mental illness out on the street. They didn't care. They had no where to go. Many even young people went into nursing homes. Or was left to friend for themselves. Lot long term facilities were closed, even our Veterans lost the only home they had. It's sad. That's why this country has a homeless population. Letting those who need 24 hour care are given a check, pills. Pills don't work if no one is there to make sure you take them. They are often abused, used, sometimes killed. I find more and more, people have become heartless, lovers of themselves. It's all about them. They have what they need, nice home, car. Nice bank account. So they forget about the little people. Bless you for sharing.✌️🙌🌻🦋🌠❤️🖖🙂👋. Love, respect and positivity always.vee and family.

Rusty’s mother was supposed to watch her during the day while he was working.. He was warned repeatedly not to leave her alone with her poor children, but instead of waiting ONE hour for his mother who was running late, it cost his him the lives of 5 innocent babies. For so long I cried over those 5 babies with their amazing smiles, and it hurt my heart to think what their last moments were like, especially for Noah. 😞 Her case is the one that brought postpartum depression/psychosis into the major spotlight to show how much more prevalent it is than was previously reported. He was MY 6 yr. old’s bff. Then I went through menopause. THEN….I went to a Dr. to ease the horrible pain I must’ve pulled something. MRI showed nothing. So I was told to go to physical therapy. The very first day there, the girl turned a electric stim machine on me…ALL THE WAAAAAAAY UP & it destroyed my back forever. This story is heartbreaking on so many levels. Heartbreaking for the kids obviously. They didn't deserve this. But I've always wondered why her husband wasn't charged. After being told repeatedly by doctors not to have more children, Rusty pushed her to have the last baby. Andrea told him and the doctors repeatedly how she was feeling and what was wrong and wasn't taken seriously. She's guilty of murder in a black and white sense, but it could have been avoided if anyone had of loved her enough to listen to her and help her. None of this needed to happen.

But Andrea was mentally ill and shouldn't have been left alone with those kids that morning! He's just as culpable as she is in this situation. Rusty KNEW she shouldn't be alone with the kids. She shouldn't have been alone, period! She could have killed herself with her history of suicide! She never should've had more kids after the 3rd, but especially the 4th. Rusty made her stop her psych meds and get pregnant with Mary, knowing what it would do to her. I fault him more than her for this tragedy. Those poor kids would all be adults now, possibly with kids of their own. I pray she's doing better, too. She couldn't help what her mind was doing to her sanity.

Lamont, thank you so much for speaking up about mental illness stigmatization. Rusty Yates was more culpable than Andrea. He made her stop her schizophrenia medication to have more kids. I’ve had mental health problems for most of my life. It’s horrible how those with mental health problems are treated. I’ve personally experienced trauma from not only my own toxic family but also, healthcare professionals. I’m trying to make a difference though, I’m about to finish my MS degree in psychology. The person to blame is the children's father. He knew and had been warned against leaving the children alone with Andrea, and chose to leave them anyway. I feel for both parents in this case. Andrea is a sick woman, and yes her illness led her to kill her sweet innocent babies, but in her moments of clarity can you imagine her grief. She didn't kill out of anger, her mind led her to believe that death was saving them. Prison was no place for her, she's where she needs to be. I do think her husband should be held to some form of responsibility. I do give him credit for testifying on Andreas behalf. Even after remarrying!

What more is there left to say, when even a doctor advises you not to have more children, there were red flags waving all over the place. They told Rusty that Andrea had suffered from postpartum depression after each of her children’s births and told them not to have any more children. This was before she became pregnant with Mary. I think he should have been held accountable as well because, if he had followed the doctors’ orders, those kids would very likely be alive today. He divorced Andrea and remarried in 2006. He had one son with his second wife and she filed for divorce in 2015.

I also think the husband should have been held accountable because knowing what the doctors said they still had another child and left her alone even though the doctors said DO NOT LEAVE HER ALONE WITH THE CHILDREN! Yes he had to go to work but he could've had someone there to keep an eye on her or at the very least the kids.

I thought then and I know now the husband should have been held accountable and jailed... he was as responsible as his wife... in fact more responsible. I remember reading somewhere that he wanted congenial visits with the hopes of having more children... as he said "to replace the ones he lost" he was refused... He has since divorced Andrea an remarried in March 2006... he remained in the church where his children burial service was held... said "he chose to move on with his life while resisting temptation to pity himself or seek revenge on people who may have wronged him." Nice guy... he just left her to deal with those issues alone...

One of my best friends growing up lived on that street, her dad was a major NASA employee. We were all shocked to hear this happened, on a street we grew up on. I’m sorry but he was a very controlling person, he knew if she stopped taking meds, she would loose it. Rusty used the victim card, and he was well aware of what he was putting into her head.

This was such a sad story. I blame the father as well he put his children in danger with them being alone with her so much. With 5 young children I think it was becoming to difficult for her. Sad that the kids were the victims.
