We'll never know what drives someone to turn into evil. Perfectly normal people that snap and do an horrendous crime like this one. How did they lose their soul ? The perp wasn't born with this very idea he would kill is whole family. It's something he developped much later. I mean, none of what he explained as "reasons" made any sense whatsoever. That's where the mystery lies. Additionally, he didn't shoot his family. With a gun, you can even fire at a distance, it's so quick and easy. With a knife it's quite a different matter. It's body to body fight. And it requires a lot of energy/hatred. He could even have been injured, especially if people defended themselves.

What a beautiful monument and headstone for the family, as heartbreaking as it is. And as an animal lover, it is a very small consolation to know their beloved dog was buried with them. There is no way this man did this over his step dad's choice to divorce. If this was truly the motive, he would not have killed his mother, brother, and dog. Am I surprised he attempted to shift any amount of blame onto someone else? Not in the slightest, which makes me even more convinced he did it out of either anger they would not finance his European trip OR to gain financially with the deaths of his mom and step dad. Had to kill the brother too because his brother would have also been given 50% of the estate/assets. (Or quite possibly the brother was going to get the bulk or all of it since he was the full bio child of the step dad and mom, while he was a step child of the father) I believe this was the only way he could financially benefit from killing both parents and the only other person that would have benefitted from their deaths) He just didn't think he would get caught. It is why he parked at the dog park.

What a sad story. It reminds me of a family that was murdered in Tennessee. The son did not want to work and his parents were not going to support him anymore. He killed them, cut their bodies up and put their body parts in tubs. He then poured acid over them. The dog he spared, but he had locked the dog in a room upstairs, turned the heat on full blast. He left a journal that he had written step by step instructions from killing his parents to disposing of the bodies. He assumed he was to inherit all of the life insurance his parents was leaving. I just find it sad that entitled children think they are above working. That their parents owe them, and that the parents are supposed to support them for life. They go bat crap crazy when they are told no. I thought the headstone was beautiful. And it was sweet that the family dog was included.

He took a backpack with the least he would need, & stayed at Hostels. No problems anywhere. Oh forgot Japan, Taiwan, Holland…etc. I always told both my sons to do EVERYTHING you want to do before age 30. He’s 29 now & just bought a house with his fiancé in San Fran, where he lives. (a $1.8 mil house!!). My older son went to Med school instead, but went overseas many times for Spanish & research in Madrid, Seville, etc. He’s an MD in Los Angeles with a Dr. wife & 2 kids. Even if his stepdad runs off to his lover. He is still on the hook financially to some extent to his 15 year old son and his wife. The hurt will be most on his mother. Call be crazy, but I would think he should of supported his mother and NOT kill her ? I agree what explanation he gives make no sense ? In my opinion I don't think he was such a loving son ? Something else and deep was going on years before that we may never know about. He admires Mandela but kills his whole family and the dog ? Make NO sense no matter how you may look at it.

Yes I agree. I believe that something very sinister was going on in this young mans life, maybe it all started when he went away to college. Who knows....maybe drugs, or even a gang or the occult. Those are just my thoughts and opinions, but something 100% evil had hold of this guy, it was not just that "he was mad at his stepdad for being gay" or "mad at mom/stepdad for not helping him go to Europe". I mean he even murdered his little brother and the DOG for crap sake. And in such a brutal and horrific way, stabbing them repeatedly. My Gosh such a deranged individual. I hope that their family members have been doing okay and I'm sure the community will remember them for a long time to come. Sad, sad story. 🙁
