I also think it’s a stupid rule. Lots of people can very professional with beards and goatees as long as they take care of it and keep it maintained then it should never be a problem. If facial hair offends you then you need to grow some balls and get real because I’d much rather have a goatee or beard than look like a little boy. My company thought that they could make all of our crew shave. Well most of us didn’t and they still won’t do anything like fire us because they need the people and they’re actually smart in knowing if you can do the job then a little beard or goatee isn’t going to kill anyone. If you get enough people to go against this policy then it can be changed because guys like me won’t shave for shit unless it’s trimming it. I don’t care I’m 42 years old and I’ll be damned if somebody is going to tell me to shave

Then don't join the yankees
That "Walk on Water line" was tough.
As someone with no chin, having a beard is essential to my self confidence. I’ve seen players the Yankees have signed who previously had beards and I’m not a fan of the baby face look. Come on yanks, you can have a “clean beard” policy at least
Can’t we at least compromise and allow neatly trimmed beards? That gives everyone what they want. You can have a beard and look clean.
@brendan594
3 жыл бұрын
That’s true
The Reds did not even allow a mustache. Pete Rose could not get Rollie Fingers to the Reds because he refused to shave his mustache.
I like that quote from price at the end but he cleaned it up big time for the media. The original was something like 'At Fenway and the Bronx I feel bad for the clean up crew and the laundry guys after pitching to Gary cause diarrhea on the mound and all over my uniform cannot be fun to clean after hitting dingers off me, pun intended. So salute to those guys, the real heroes of this oftentimes messy and sloppy game, literally.'
Fun fact : in 95 the beard policy was shortly banned to allow jack mcdowell to wear his goatee . That lasted 3 starts and after he flipped off the yankee fans after being pulled after another bad outing . The beard was gone and policy was back. Mattingly, leyritz grew goatees as well

Why did they allow them to
Omg that Price quote about Sanchez and the Yankees might be your best work yet 😂. No matter what he's done or does for the rest of his career, the first thing I will always remember Price for is thinking he could throw a slow looping breaking ball to Jeter on a 3-2 and that it wouldn't get rocked into the seats for hit #3000 lol. Then again, he did throw a fastball on a 3-2 his first at bat and Jeter hit that too, on his way to a 5/5 day & 3/3 off Price. Oh yeah, and a SB, a triple away from the cycle, and the game winning hit haha. Anyways I know I'm a little late but I love this new series!
excellent report
My thoughts have evolved on this. Last year, when the Yankees were terrible, and everyone seemed so unhappy, I thought the rule was dumb, and time to change it. In 2024, it's been a dream season so far, at 42-19 currently, and now I embrace the no hair policy again!
I'm lovin the new series
That little sneak quote from Price, I see you Derek LOL

Yes, thats why we always beat the crap out of him. Check out his ERA against the Yankees.
Get rid of the beard policy and allow players to be themselves. It's out dated and does not reflect society today. CBA, which is expiring, would protect players from fines / suspensions over beards. The most Yankees manager Boone could really do is bench a player and frame it as a managerial decision. the entire policy stands on peer pressure and tradition. A star player like Judge truly wanted to take the policy down or had teammates join him the Yanks know there’s not much they could do to stop them.
Awesome series!!!! Love it. I hope the Yankees continue this tradition. Being prior military (only in my 30s), I fully support this.
@ish7957

This ain't the military 🤣
when I heard of the rule I thought it was something from the 1800s. figured it was tradition of yesteryear. but this from 1973...
This policy should really be loosened up. If a guy wants to keep a well maintained beard, I say let him. Hair goes a long way when it comes to expressing yourself and I believe they should be allowed to do so without fear of getting punished.
I love this rule
When you can’t grow a beard so you don’t let anyone else
You don’t mess with a man with a powerful mustache. I’m talking to you Carpenter and Cortez. I like the rule, these men are getting paid a lot of money. The least they can do is look presentable.
I'm a 21yo yankees fan (just to put me in a demographic) and I've always liked this policy. It sets the team apart from the rest if the league and it gives them a clean look. It also sets a professional mindset amongst the organization which I belive can inspire a winning personality, along with proper management of course.
I would find a new team

They're baseball players not lawyers
Personally, I like it. When I played in high school back in the mid '70s, our coach had a rule of basically shaved heads. No short haircut and you're off the team (he used to say high and tight ladies). The college team I played for had a similar policy. Today's Yankees are the cleanest looking athletes in both leagues. There are some teams where some of the players look like a bunch of fricken beatniks; I won't name them. I did not know that Steinbrenner said "if you can walk on water, then you can wear your hair the way you like"; I love it. Keep up the policy of looking clean cut. Mullets went out in the 80's ! (except for Billy Ray Cyrus).

I’ve always liked the policy personally. It always seemed to me that it encouraged a stronger team mindset because it was less about the individual (and their personal style) and more about everyone being the same, looking the same, and acting as one unit. It’s also a business and fosters a level of respect for the rules. If you can follow this simple rule, then you’re a team player and that’s encouraging for the future with the franchise. It’s why someone like Trevor Bauer would never have come this way. He doesn’t follow rules and most of the time it’s all about him.
It’s a company policy. Nuff said.

Yes eventually you might lose out on a free agent like Blackmon not saying he is who we need or want but some one like that might walk because of the policy cole might not like it either
I dont really care if a Yankees player has long hair or no hair has a big big beard or no beard as long as they win I’m fine
Good stuff! Great idea and like you, my favorite Yankee of all time is and always was Don Mattingly. I remember when The Boss had it out for Mattingly for the hair policy. Rules are rules, if you want to play in NYY you need to do what it takes.
I'm a huge Yankees fan and I've never understood the policy. I mean, like I get it, it's a business. But couldn't ya maybe fake that it's a business, at least while your fans are watching? I wanna watch a bunch of tough athletes who play for each other and wanna win at all costs. Their facial hair has nothing to do with that concept. As long as they're not growing hair so long that it becomes a distraction to their playing ability, I say let them do what they want. Its 2021 for God's sake!
I been a Yankee fan all my life but this rule is kind of stupid these guys are grown men that are away from there families for so long and the owners don't let them have beards or long hair after all the sacrifices these guys make...
I wonder if this policy also occurs to the Minor League teams too

I like this policy.... because I just like to see the newly signed Yankee players with a drastic look...for example Johnny Damon from caveman to Babyface...lol

David price🤣🤣🤣... gets destroyed just about every time he pitches against the Yankees ...so much for his thoughts on the subject!!...😆😆
I can't trust a man who doesn't like beards or choose to prevent other from growing one.
I love this rule so much!! Just get rid of the mustche rule. I dont see a point of letting have them it just like the New York Islanders.
I have mixed emotions with facial hair policies because if a Superstar free agent wouldn't sign with the Yankees because they wouldn't give him a religious exemption, he'll take his services somewhere else. I seen the Yankees play the A's back in 2007 and Yankees looked Profesional during Batting Practices, exercising, long toss, they represent the brand.
think it's time to drop the policy. For the sake of the continued success of the team and franchise. The Boss been dead now for more than five years now. It's time to end the policy and have the Yankees get individuals that can not only play the game but respect game as well. This policy haa run it's course on my opinion and last I checked the last time we raised a championship banner in the Bronx was a little more than a decade ago. Plus the Mets now beginning to be threat to Yankees in the city. They are coming up! And a lot of good players spurn the Yankees because of this stupid policy that has gone on since 1973.
Clean cut Yankees it’s a thing
I really don’t care the boss liked his players clean cut so I actually like that rule

Personally I like the policy. The New York Yankees are NOT other teams. Now if only they could instigate a policy against bat-flipping and hotdogging. The late great Hank Aaron (RIP) said in an interview that todays Professional athletes look foolish with the way they behave on the field....I agree. It's disrespectful and childish. Your on field performance should speak for itself. Anyone who needs tips on how to do this.....see DJ LeMahieu. Surely I will be derided for my "Old Man" view on this but I call it.....Sportsmanship. Remember when ?
@JayD73
2 жыл бұрын
Yeah sportsmanship.... like in the good old days when pitchers would routinely throw at hitters after giving up a home run.
Do players have the right to say I don't wanna be traded there then.. you can't pick me up and then force me to live your way lol don't trade for me then
I believe it’s a GREAT policy. Team first .
I think in 2024 well trimmed facial hair is not a big deal. Fans in the stands have beards. Do they have to shave before they lay out almost a 1000 dollars to attend a home game for a family of 4? No, they don't. The Yankees also had a history of winning World Series, what happened to that History? It is a hair rule to show ownership control and nothing more IMO.
I mean, I think the policy kept people like Syndergaard. Nobody wants to see him cut his hair, neither does himself.
I think it’s a ridiculous policy !!!! These are pro athletes this is not the Marine Corps. The Cincinnati Reds who were more strict dropped the facial hair policy I think in 1999.The Yankees need to get with the times and get rid of this archaic policy!!!!🧔🏻♂️🧔🏾🧔🏿🧔🏼♂️
I hate the policy. It rings of a slight bit of racism. I'm not quick to toss that term around like some but this sounds familiar to the Chic fil A policy. A lot of black men can't shave or don't due to severe bumps or acne. I never liked George S nor his son. One of the last teams to sign black players along with the treatment of them over the years (mostly in the past) doesn't help. I'm not saying the Yankees are a racist organization. They've made a lot of black players quite rich. A lot of them were bi racial though. Lol Whenever I hear about a hair and beard policy it automatically makes me consider racism.
It’s pretty much dumb in my opinion because we want to see players & coaches reveal their true identities of style to their own character.
Donnie baseball with the mullet was in style in the early 90's. Those were the days in the 70's where you grew your hair long with beards and sideburns. Even Thurman Munson somehow grew a full beard breaking the hair policy set by George Steinbrenner.
I have to say: I've always liked the corporate look of the team, since the 1970s. As a fan, I could definitely blend in with the team: I have, what I call, the military/police officer/firefighter haircut, with the thin mustache, to boot. So, when I see them on the field, or in interviews, I see fellow-Brothers.
This policy is absolutely ridiculous..

The Army and other services mandate haircuts to show recruits that they are part of a team, and the team requires that they conform to predetermined standards. In short, you are a soldier and your value will be determined by your performance on the field rather than how pretty you are. Only girls are exempted. You want to play for the Yankees, play for the team. You want to be different, special and pretty, play for yourself. Go Steinbrenner, Go Yanks!

The teams grooming policy isn’t even traditional, it’s a Steinbrenner thing. I’m a long time fan, former Marine and retired police officer who had to shave for almost three f-king decades….and I still think that the team’s grooming policy is stupid.
