I am a retired UPS driver. UPS has a shave policy. A Muslim driver sued UPS essentially saying having to shave was violating his religion. In 2019 UPS decided to allow their drivers to have facial hair. The N Y Yankees need to join the 21st century. I am almost positive they are losing free agents because of this ridiculous rule.

The only mainstream religions that require beards are Islam, Sikhism, and the Amish, of which the Yankees have zero players on their team that are part of those religions, to the extent where they wouldn’t shave their beard. If a player who was strictly Islamic were to play for the Yankees, they’d allow him to have his beard as it’s cited in scripture that Islamic men must seek to follow the noble example of the prophet of Islam, the holy prophet had a beard and wore a turban. Very few religions require people to have facial hair and the ones that do, while already extremely rare in this country are exponentially more rare in American baseball, hence why we’ve never seen this example play out The specific text of the Yankees rule is literally “All Players, Coaches, and Male executives are forbidden to display any facial hair, other than mustaches (except for religious reasons), and scalp hair may not be grown below the collar”

Andrew McCutchen spoke out about that rule, he was not able to keep his beard or braids when he was traded. I agree when they are a free agent but when you are traded and have no say, that is the issue.

Wilson's career was already ruined at that point. If Wilson did indeed turn the Yankees down because of the facial hair rule, it was when Wilson was a FA and while he was recovering from his second Tommy John surgery. Wilson signed with the Dodgers and played only 2 more seasons, pitching just 62 total innings, with a 3.62 ERA and only 1 save. In other words...it was no big loss for the Yankees. @@johnd3233

I hate that defense about “discipline” if like the other 29 teams don’t have great players with plenty of discipline and have long hair/facial hair…over here worried about shaving rather than getting them practices and developing there’s where the discipline should be no in a razor 🪒 and I can name 3 players Manny Ramirez, Brian Wilson and David price all said 🖕partly because of that

I specifically remember in 2022 Michael Kay saying the Yankees needed Luis Castillo before and even after he got traded to the Mariners. Castillo didn't want to cut his hair off and the reds did him a solid by trading him to the Mariners. Both offers from the Mariners and Yankees were about the same value wise so That beard 100% costed the yankees a player and i know Michael Kay may even argue that the Yanks might've even won a game if they had Castillo during the Astros series.

as someone who was in the military, the reason why we don't get to have long hair and beards is because we have to maintain a tight seal when wearing MOPP gear. thats really the only reason. however you are allowed to grow a beard to certain length if you get a medical note because shaving everyday is bad for your skin. also if you are special forces you are allowed to grow a beard and hair.

People bring up a few Yankee traditions that need to go. The facial hair policy, no names on the back of the jerseys and no alternative uniform from the traditional home pinstripes and road greys. It's 2023. The Yankees are leaving a ton of money on the table with all three policies.

Im a Younger fan (27) but i like the facial hair/head hair rule. Tradition still needs to mean something, despite recent struggles. It's a very well known "criterion" for being a yankee

All it would take is a single player suing the team for the rule to vanish, the beard rule policy is actually a direct violation of NY state law. Kay is wrong about never losing a player over the hair policy, all the players against it simply choose not to sign with the yankees. This Yankees team isn't the Ruth team or the 50's teams, this team is simply another team in baseball.

It would only take a single person affected by the Yankees rule to file a state lawsuit to make the Yankees be forced to remove it. To say the players cannot sue is ridiculous you can sue for pretty much anything in the USA, especially for something the law of a state expressly forbids.

The batter doesn’t get a warning for that, but when the pitcher hits the next batter in the ribs with a fastball the ump warns the pitcher and both teams, or the benches clear and all Hell breaks loose. They’re professionals do they really need to flip their bat when they hit a HR? Showboating or Taunting shouldn’t be allowed, kids watch and emulate these players. We should be setting better examples for them on how to respect each other on and off the field. A better set of rules and consequences for breaking them would go a long way to putting an end to that nonsense. Taunting is a penalty in the NFL. In baseball ( these days) it’s “let the kids have fun”. Freedom is great but when our actions encroach on others rights and freedoms disaster is right around the corner in sports and in life. Bro I like my job of 24 yrs because of the flexibility but quite frankly that’s the YANKs my man. The Old Man was a MF but he loved the franchise almost like a family member. And yes I respect that to the utmost. Great example of the no names on the jerseys. You may not believe it but of if I could own the Yanks I would still rock my “ goatee” 😂.

In fact, im currently watching a Yankees spring training game against the Blue Jays and he couldn't get off the topic of Mattingly's beard(now bench coach of the Jays)...crazy bro.

If having a beard and long hair is undisciplined, as if grooming is a true reflection of a person s character, then what is Juan Soto, from the age of 19, grabbing his crotch and staring at the pitcher in some weird, childish attempt at intimidation ? The Yankees dont want to look bad as an organization, but then go out and get a player who exhabits this type of obnoxious , classless behavior. Maybe worst yet, he is almost never criticized for this , and the teams he has played for turned a blind eye towards it, as it seems the Yankees intend to do.

Kay is dead on. Don't like it? Don't play for the Yankees! and Maybin is an out of touch has-been that can't even grow a beard! lol

Let's be honest...It's a STUPID STUPID STUPID rule!!! A beard doesn't make you sloppy... It would even be ok if you say any facial hair must be well groomed... Nobody would have a problem with that... Even if you say no long beards... That also is ok... I would be SHOCKED if it hasn't at least been a "part" of the decision making of some players. We have lost out on many players over the last decade... And honestly it's a boring look (the whole team with no facial hair)...
