For anyone wondering why people check roadkill here in Australia, it's because a lot our native animals (kangaroos, wombats, etc.) carry their young in their pouches. Whenever you see roadkill, you should stop to see if their young is still alive so that it can be rescued and taken to people who take care of orphaned wildlife. If there are no young in the pouch, you should spray paint an 'X' on the carcass (a lot of us carry spray paint for this purpose). Stopping to check roadkill in Australia isn't a weird thing to do, in fact it is encouraged. Edit: Holy moly I cannot believe how many likes this has - thanks everyone!

In the states we , well some of us, stop and check opossums for young since usually the mothers body cushions the hit enough to keep them unharmed. However.. if someone does not check for babies, they slowly starve to death or end up getting run over as well. I wish everyone would take the moment to check on any animal they may have hit.. sadly many make a damn game out of it and look at animals as less deserving then a homosapian.

Very true. My sister and I had to haul a very large, very freshly dead wombat off the road two nights ago, and when she initially went to check if there were a baby, she was incredibly relieved to see very distinct testicles. I'm a man and understand how active our libido can be, but this guy is insane. Clearly has some screws loose because who in their right mind thinks this is ok? The second we heard julian wanted to see this roadkill sooo badly that he was willing to get out and walk to go see it i knew he was in on whatever was about to happen. It's already weird asf to be that intrigued with a dead carcass on the road, its another level of weird to be so intrigued that you stop your vehicle, get out, and walk down the road to see if you drove by it when you could have easily just turned the car around.

MrBallen could make a channel entitled “The routine, mundane, and uneventful delivered in story format,” and it would be a hit.

One of the little things I really appreciate is that you mark photos as "real picture" or "NOT the real photo". A lot of other channels do not do this and it leaves me confused when I see an image as to whether I am looking at the real thing or just some stock image related to the topic. Well done.

Aussie note: Churchill and Budgeree are in Victoria. I think you said the south of Australia (which is technically true) but because we have a state called South Australia it’s a bit confusing… also some people don’t realise that Australia is freaking huge, roughly the size of the US, so mistaking two small south-eastern Victoria towns for South Australia is like a 1,000-2,000 km difference! Also the the south of Australia in general spans about 4,000km and would take about 5-6 days to drive across. It’s a very large generalisation. Also on a side note, my godmother is a Carolyn from Churchill! Not THE Carolyn, but another Carolyn lols. My mum grew up in a small town called Morwell, which is about 15mins from Churchill, but in the opposite direction from Budgeree. It legit had no idea this happened so close to my family 😅

As awful as this is, I actually thought for a moment that he was going to assault her but hiding behind his kidnapper disguise. That it didn't play out that way is one positive aspect but I can't imagine how much fear Carolyn went through, binded, bundled into a car boot then having to watch someone dig a hole in the middle of a forest. I would have been terrified and expecting to be killed. Then another week of torture "escaping" the supposed kidnapper. Only to discover it was her fiance. The amount of issues that could cause in her future, in relationships, trust issues, PTSD. All because Julian couldn't wait to have sex.

Honestly nothing ever happens in Australia so when I saw this when it first came out I pressed on it immediately. Watching it now a year later Im still surprised in how pathetic the reason for the kidnapping was.

I used to check trash bags (and any other bags suit case) when I was young. My father used to tell me ur gonna find a dead body one day. Almost found one under a bridge. A friend went missing and I wanted to look for her. I would have found her under the 1st bridge but my husband said ,"I'm sure the police looked under all the surrounding bridges. A month later she was found at exact place. Her killer was never found. Nothing but mostly bones the time they found her due to the element's.

West Aussie here, we usually stop for big road kill or fresh road kill, especially Kangaroos to check if there are any joey's. Sometimes the animals have babies around, need to be moved of the road, or the animal may not be dead. If it's big, other then wild boar, goats, wild dogs, horses or cattle/bulls, we don't have many big wild animals here, so it would stop us to see what the heck it was😂🤣

He gets 7 years in prison. She gets multiple lifetimes of therapy. Trust issues. Commitment issues. Intimacy issues. Issues with confined spaces. Issues being alone and issues being with others. I'm not super religious but in this case I can't imagine that anything but faith would be able to keep her sane.

No judgment one way or the other on what the actual objective was, in this case, to have sex. Just that by doing so his objective behind his deceit was ultimately accomplished by the consummation. For that, I would feel outraged & appalled, even more so. Basically, he's scum & I would feel relief that he didn't get what he wanted as a conclusion of his trickery & deception.

I feel terrible for that poor girl. Not only did she get traumatized, starved, and essentially tortured for 7 days... she lost the person she loved and thought she was going to marry. Turns out that person did not really exist. This is beyond stupid teenage boy behavior. This could have turned into much darker behavior down the road.

My channel covers true crime and we covered Kari Swenson's case. she was kidnapped by a father son duo up in the mountains because the husband needed a "Mountain Bride". It's such a wild story but how the media handled it (it happened in the 70s) really annoyed me because they were trying to romanticize it.

I was thinking about this. If I knew someone really well (especially a partner) and they kidnapped me I feel like I would know it was them even if they were dressed all in black. You would just be able to tell by their mannerisms, movement, smell, size, breathing etc etc etc.

I told a very dear friend of mine about this channel. Unfortunately she had cancer. But during her treatment we would sit together and snuggle in the bed and the laptop and listen to mr. Ballen. It gave her a lot of entertainment. She died listening to him. 😢😢😢. But she was happy listening to mr.ballen and his fantastic stories.

As soon as I heard that he magically ran in the right direction to find her, I knew something was off. The being left there could of been some sick game, the knife could of fallen and forgotten about. But in a forest, and you just happen to run into the right direction. That out up red flags. Also the fact that… where was he as she was being transported in the trunk.

Then they find a sleeping bag, food, tools... this is not a hunger game! The fact that he wanted to have sex while they were being "abducted" was a pretty good giveaway. If he REALLY felt in danger for his life; he wouldn't have been able to put his guard down, so sex would definitely be off the table. Women are, usually, not aroused by imminent or potential death; They want to feel protected.

Depends on the person there are people out there that if there on the run from whatever after a couple days they usually let the guard down and if they are a couple would have sex and ya in immediate danger then no but after no signs of the attacker after a few days there guards would most deff be down enough to have sex I’m sure the women felt safe after a few days but she stuck to her morales and props to her for that

This was an ending to the story I never would have imagined. The fear Carolynne must have felt the entire time, the relief of making it out ok only to find out that it was her boyfriend who orchestrated it all. What a range of intense emotions she went through. The agony the families went though when they were missing is sad.

I knew something was suspicious when he claimed to have been knocked out by a blow to the head; that is a Hollywood trope. The roadkill premise also sounded like something a teenager would concoct. Although I didn’t guess the actual ending, the fact that there was a sleeping bag left out made me think that they were being pressured to have sex as an initiation, or that Julian was involved behind-the-scenes. I guess when you live in such isolation without any release, your mind can create some elaborate plots.

So I learned 3 things here- the ONA are a thing, if you absolutely have to stage a kidnapping it’s poor form to use restraints that can be provably traced back to you and don’t come up with a ridiculously unbelievable cover story that involves your assailants conveniently leaving you survival and escape equipment whenever and wherever you need it. Oh and flowers and chocolate are more effective seduction tools than sunburn, exhaustion, dehydration, malnutrition, life threatening traumatic experiences and psychological torture.

Blue balls will do that. Sounds like she was more committed to abstinence than he was. I think there are more productive ways of.....releasing....that frustration than fabricating a kidnapping, but I also think abstinence is stupid and this is a perfect example as to why.

I thought the whole story sounded spurious. Religious weirdos were definitely involved, it was just a christian weirdo. Go figure.

Nobody is ever topping that "craziest thing you ever did to get laid" story. 😂

The fact that someone would rather traumatize their girlfriend in such a horrible manner rather than denounce their faith in order to have sex confounds me. He somehow managed to rationalize in his head that his egregious actions were a “lesser sin” than sex outside of wedlock. Religion is terrifying because it makes people do crazy things.

The first thing I wondered was: how on earth do you get roadkill on a sort-off abandoned dirt road that belongs to your property?

that would be a legitimate reason to investigate - why is something dead on my property when I didn't kill it, do we have poachers etc.

@@Azmodon Poachers of what? More like city boys spotlighting on property uninvited. Happens occaisonally on my parents farm. They ve stopped putting locks on the gates now cause these ratbags only cut through the fence,leading to stock loss and more damage.

I really admire the lady’s faith. Man she went through a lot and I only hope she can lead a wonderful life after all this craziness!

I was going to go on a tangent about how sad it is that she was a victim for being Christian,as I am, and how scary it is at times yet its often seems to be socially inept sheepish little men who cannot talk to the woman they supposedly love and yet they try to pull off this elaborate yet ridiculous scheme and have no thought about the consequences. SO STRANGE!

Genuinely. A bad part is some people just use this video to bash Christians and call them all crazy and stuff. Beside my point though I agree what she went through is awful and I hope she is lead to a better person.
