Little-known fact: During that losing streak Prairie View had a running back named Michael Porter, a graduate of Davis High in Houston. Porter did not win a high school game, either - Davis lost 80 straight games, the longest streak in high school history, before beating Wheatley in 1993. Porter's combined high school and college playing record was 0-77.

As an alum of Prairie View’s arch rival Texas Southern, they have come a looooong way since the losing streak. I remember when it was pretty much a guaranteed win for us when we played them in our annual game The Labor Day Classic. That all changed in 2004 when they beat us for the first time since 1988. We’ve only beat them 3 times since then. The good news is we still lead the all time series 44-31-1. They’d have to win the next 13 in a row to tie us. The bad news they won the last 6 in a row.

Even if some NCAA programs aren't top notch, everyone at this level could ball... it is surprising with Prairy View. The problem with both their basketball and football programs : they seemed to don't have schemes at all. * I was a former basketball athlete in Canada and those years were phenomenal.

So the thing about pv is that after the legendary hbcu coaches started to retire and segregation ended. There was no one that could pull talent away from the big schools. Billy nicks was able to keep talent coming because of his name and Alot of the hs coaches played for him. But when he retired, pv just couldn't pull the talent anymore. Pretty much why hbcus aren't bigger now. Bigger schools simply have more money and recognition. But the swac conference is hotter than its ever been right now.

@@KTOfootball to be honest, I had scholarships to play someone else. When PVAMU came to me and told me about what happend and ask me to come help them win or rebuild it felt authentic. My dad lived in Houston so he also helped with my decision. I always wanted to go to an HBCU and to be a part of the team that helped changed it around is much bigger than a national championship. We went through a lot. We had rocks thrown at us after a southern game, people spitting on us while we entered the stadiums, our own students didn’t believe in us. No other team in history had ever had to deal with this. We also broke the SWAC losing streak against Alcorn St. that was also a big deal for me because I was a senior. Now I am a professional actor. I was Coach Spivey on the tv show Friday night lights for 5 seasons. Going through that helped me develop as a black man. Being able to face my fears and achieve my goals. Sorry so long
