PTSD is brutal. It’s like taking anxiety disorder and depression, blending them together and then cranking the volume to 10. ..and there’s a lesser known type of PTSD called “Complex PTSD”. It stems from repeated trauma rather than isolated traumatic events. With CPTSD, in addition to the depression and anxiety, your brain is in fight or flight mode 24/7, so to cope it will “disassociate” and take you out of reality.

@@LarryLawtonJewelThief I know I'm late to the party on this one, but you mentioned towards the end of the video that you worry about what you're capable of and I thought it was important to respond. Your knowledge (of how you would react) is from relevant experience, not your personality. People who have been in traumatic life-or-death situations have direct experience of what they would do in intensely frightening situations. For you, that was prison and the criminal world. For others, they have the same reactions from serving in the armed forces, or high risk parts of the emergency services. I know that you have PTSD so, as an ED/ER doc and a veteran myself, I thought it important to reassure you that knowing what you are capable of does not make you a monster, it makes you a human being who has lived through traumatic experiences. Take care 👍

I remember this one story from a mouth I trust not to bs. There was guy who decided to check out and to do so, he wanted it to be as dramatic as possible; he slit his wrist open with a shiv. Thing is, apparently a few seconds after he did this, he grew cold feet. So he began to bang on his cell door, screaming that he was bleeding, he needed help. Nobody came... and apparently it wasn't like the guards wouldn't be able to hear him. He kept banging on that door and screaming, but with each scream his voice grew weaker and weaker. Last thing my friend said he heard was sobbing. Then he was wheeled away in the morning. Lesson? If you're thinking about checking out, think real fricking hard before you do so... and seek help... because no matter how lonely you think you are, there will be people who miss you.

Hey Larry, I have a double question for you: 1: Do you know any stories where a guy was beat/stabbed/raped/whatever, and reconciled with the attacker? How does that prison dynamic work because they're obviously not all fatal and not all of them are going to have retaliation. 2: Have you reconciled with the people you've attacked in prison? How was the relationship afterwards? Thanks for the videos man. We need more honesty; raw, painful honesty is important for everyone - especially the youth.

@@deanjustdean7818 It absolutely does happen in the real world. My brother was accidentally stabbed in the head by a friend when drunk. Still great friends today but shit went sour that night and they later made up. Does it happen often? Obviously not, and the extent of the attack would likely matter. But if you deserved to get beaten to a pulp for being a fuckwit, depending on your maturity there's potentially a chance you reconcile if you can come to terms with your own idiocy.

I was in county jail when the dude next to me admitted how he killed my best friends brothers dad while he was trying to rob him for meth. Cut his head off with a hand saw. Tried to get at him, but he was in another cell. He got life for it. I was 19 at the time. Seen several stabbings and brawls in federal prison. All of it seems unreal. Hard to imagine even though you know it can happen at any time. Watched that Top 10 too. I know some crazier, bad ass dudes and couple of women too. You never want your ass cut up like that. Thanks for sharing your stories Larry. I'm in Canada and our prison system here is a whole different ball game. I know you're looking for some prison reform, but we've gone too far the other way. I'm curious on your take, I believe the prison system and justice system are overwhelmed and underprepared for the widespread closing of asylums. I truly believe there are people that need to be under constant supervised psychiatric care. Your shirt, "No bad people, Bad decisions" can't be applied to everyone. Some folks don't know the difference. My 2 cents, but I think if they re-opened psychiatric facilities (asylums) there would be a better prison system and less of a homeless problem like you see in big cities all over the place.
