In the 1980's, if a car had over 400 horsepower, that was a LOT. Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Porsche all made cars that could go fast, but not by today's standards. Then Willy Koenig went nuts on a Ferrari Testarossa, reinforcing the engine, adding turbochargers, intercoolers, and the widest of body kits (designed by Vittorio Strosek). Only 21 Koenig Competition Evo Twin-Turbos were built, but even driving one today, 35 years later, you can understand the appeal. At four times the price of a standard Testarossa, this is the wildest Ferrari tuner car of all time!

It's been a long time since I've been around this scene, but years and years ago there was an unassuming garage in a field in North Texas that specialized in Ferrari restorations. In the 90s and 2000s, the guy running it often went under the moniker 'Ferrari Bob' and had a penchant for turbocharging Testarosa blocks well north of 1,000hp. I'd forgotten most of what he said about what made those blocks so durable, but if you were going to stuff the gills of a Ferrari V12 with boost, that was the one to source. Round about that same time, you could land a TR for about $27k that was probably in need of an engine rebuild anyway. That all said, the TR-F40 hybrid appearance of this one is magic in a bottle. With the looks to match the bite, I wouldn't turn one down either.

I loved seeing this thing out in the wild. I remember writing Willie K a letter when I was about 13 asking for a brochure. I was floored when I saw a cardboard mailer show up in my mailbox direct from Germany with a brochure, price lists, and a signed letter from the man himself. I'm happy this is even more crazy than I thought it would be😉 I think there is a black convertible KS TR out there as well. Thanks for posting!

The sounds and wide shots of it flying by is what I've always dreamt about from an '80's Italian exotic (and so far from the reality of what they were). Love this car.

"Fast, Faster, and Fastest" was the cover of an issue of a car mag 35 years ago with this car, the Corvette Callaway Sledgehammer (the fastest at 250+ mph), and either an AMG Hammer or modified 959 Porsche. I'd love to find that magazine or article again!

So happy to discover this is even a thing, thank you so much. Feels like a modernised version using carbon Kevlar and modern suspension, brake, turbo exhaust combo would add a good deal more power and drivability

I don't think I have ever seen a video that I could actually see the turbo's kick in, and the very rapid speed change as clear as this one. I understand how it works, but usually it is hard to tell on video.

I really like the story flow of this style of video. Sometimes the normal One Take video can feel one dimensional but the addition of the pre-drive stuff and more discussion gives it more of a story arc or podcast vibe. I think this gives a bit of the flavor of the time intensive videos with voice over but with alot less editing time.

As an 80s teen living life during Miami Vice being the coolest TV show ever, I remember going every month to the grocery store to buy the latest monthly Robb Report magazine so I could read about cool places, cool people, cool cars, and the classifieds in the back with brand new or newish 80s super cars...Countach, 288 GTO, Testarossa, Esprit, Mercedes SEC, and tuners like Strosek, Koenig, RUF, Gemballa that made the 80s one of a kind perfection....

Boy, oh boy. When that thing builds boost, even I'm terrified and I'm not even sitting in it! I'd love to drive this on the Autobahn once, just to cruise along at 60mph, 1500 to 2000 rpm, step on it and slowly let it build boost and push me forward faster and faster. Must be a hell of an experience!

Koenig was THE Ferrari tuner back in the day and I spent some time at his shop and the things they were doing were way ahead of any aftermarket back then. He was making a billet 5 liter 4 cylinder to make 2000hp when I was there many years ago. Haltech was across the street from his shop.

I have the FUJIMI plastic model of this beast. Only the air scoops at the back seem to have been added to the original NACA air intakes for oil cooling, along with apparently new ones that caused you issues to get access to the refill cap. What a monster. If I was given the choice between a Chiron and this, I would take this one. Radical and unique. FUJIMI also sold in parallel the Koenig sibling, the Countach. Another test perhaps?
