The Who - Amazing Journey / Sparks Live at Leeds Drum Cover
Музыка
This drum cover is the result of an effort to replicate Keith Moon's artillery barrage on the drums during one of The Who's greatest live performances; that is the famed Live at Leeds version of Amazing Journey and Sparks from the album Tommy. After many attempts, it's almost impossible to nail it 100%, but I was finally satisfied with this go!

Every musician and music fan alike needs to witness this man’s performance of the legendary Keith Moon. It would set so many disbelievers straight😮
Wow. Brought me to tears. Our beloved Moon the Loon is checked out. His spirit lives on to all that love and appreciate him. Excellent job!
I am a really hard core Who fan, ( obviously you are as well ). You know how critical we can be. So, with that in mind, I have to say you were outstanding, my friend. You have this fan's respect. You came as close as I have ever heard to getting Keith right on in this version. Standing O for you and a raise of the glass. Thanks very much for posting.... - All the best-

Tremendous!
This is a superb performance, congratulations on nailing it, I have had this album live at Leeds, for 40 years and am still astounded at moons playing, but this my friend is amazing, I believe you have it to perfection, worth all the frustration and effort, I’m over the moon for you 😊
For me, what shows off Keith's brilliance are those times he lays off. Letting Pete and John do that gorgeous rainbow guitar part without drums is brilliant dynamically.
Man, I keep returning to this video...
His neighbours must really love "Who Night".

Took me 7 years to find this . Incredible cover. I actually applauded after watching.
The Animal is back from the grave!I'm born and Liverpool but the cockney boys always did it for me(stones, who) blistering mate!
Holy SH*T dude. You nailed that. Didn't miss a single nuance (and that piece is nothing but non-stop nuances).

And his stamina.
An amazing journey all its own. After about 30 seconds I knew this would be something very special--and it was, too, right up to the very end. Thanks for this soul food. Inspiring!
Great job. I love Amazing Journey especially when Keith's drums kick in.
This is totally excellent. I know this album extremely well and have watched all of Keith Moons live performances. I know he is one of the most talked about drummers , but I actually don't think he gets the credit he deserves as a drummer . You have managed to show just how fucking amazing he was.
Mighty showcase of Moons magic
Outstanding job! My only disappointment when I clicked on this video is seeing 8 dislikes. WTF?
Holy Crap, I thought those drums were going to explode. Well done, Bravo!!
I have worn out the Leeds album. This is my favorite version of the medley. You nailed it.

Wow, you really capture that elusive Moon rolling beat-within-a-beat rhythm. It's that loosy goosy pounding with authority that so many drummer miss. I really like your covers. A lot!

Thanks! I appreciate it! I'm planning on doing some more who's next stuff.
Incredible! I saw The Who play Tommy at the Fillmore East in May and October of 1969 and then at The Metropolitan Opera House in June of 1970. You nailed it. I can’t imagine how long you practiced to get all Moon’s nuances. Now imagine, he played like that for hours at a time in concerts!
Well done Dear BOY !!!! Keith Lives with us and YOU TOO !!!~
I have played this so many times and I've been aw struck as how excellent your drumming is. This is one of my favorite Who songs. Our love was is my favorite. You are a great drummer. Please send a comment if you can. I posted my 1st comment about 3 years ago. I played drums in my youth but at 68 I've stopped, but I know à good drummer when I hear one. All the best my brother!

Kind words Stephen! Thank you for watching and commenting. I have a passion for how Keith’s drumming makes people feel, and I think there’s still tons to learn. I miss drumming, moving to somewhere I cannot play a lot. Our love was is a good one! You can see he’s got most of his style there it’s just more straightforward
Amazing, just amazing
Thanks for a tribute to a musical genius and forerunner!
After the first two rolls in the beginning, i was with ya. So few can imitate his style. Great job. Thoroughly enjoyed
This is great. I particularly love your delicate and subtle use of the hi-hat.
Great job. Hi-hat? Who needs a stinking hi-hat? I was on a Carnival cruise and the house band was doing their thing playing a medley of Broadway hits and popular tunes. They were totally into it and doing a great job. Somehow they segued into Amazing Journey/Sparks and absolutely killed it. I was digging every second and was probably the only one in the audience that knew what we were hearing.
Wow! The best Keith Moon drum cover that I have ever seen. Saw Moon live only once, in 1975. Incredible performance. Simon Phillips did a good Moon impersonation in 1989. Your videos are the closest to Moon that I have seen. Congrats and Godspeed, Murty!!!

I did love Simon Philips with the 'oo. I agree. This guy definitely has the drum parts and the dynamic down. If the who ever get their heads out their bums they can replace Zak with him
I'll never forget the first time i saw the album with Tommy......I had to sit down.
Moon was completely nuts but was also unrivalled as a musician in rock n roll history.
Nobody gets moons parts right from what I’ve seen except for you this is mad good. good shit bro
Great job, I always thought Amazing Journey was Keith's most intriqute piece's.Well done!

The best who drum cover
Nailed it. Great job.
Spectacular
Amazing bro. Lifelong Who fan. I am 51, I play guitar and am in awe of this performance. Too bad you weren't in the audience when Moon was too high to play and fell off his drum set.

douginny haha I wish. But I'd prefer to see him at his best
Simply amazing! Moon is my all-time favorite drummer, and the part from 5:10 on is my favorite live track of his. The Live at Leeds version is awesome, but I think the Tanglewood version tops it. I wish they had better audio/video of his performance there...

Love it! Dude the stamina to play this! Keith Moon is one of my top drummers if not the top besides the playing but his antics and personality
Holy Crap...My hat is off to you...Complete respect from my keyboard to you. That was, to use a pun, Amazing. Well done.
That was an amazing journey; I am a long time admirer of Keith and your video shows how hard it is to copy his style, its so unpredictable and powerful; great job

Just watched it again. F......g awesome!!!!
200% awesomeness. 2:30 - 2:45 is my favorite part of this track... "controlled chaos" a friend once said
Magnificent.
Viele Grüsse aus der Schweiz. Wunderbar...wunderbar. In Ehren an Keith Moon. I've been a drummer myself for a long time, rock drummer in some well-known bands. Keith Moon, Pete Townshend and Co. = The Who accompanied me for over 47 Years, among others. Very good drum work and with a lot of power. My compliments ... for your roll-stick drum ... (Progressive old drum style) Greetings from Lake Constance - Switzerland. Walter
been listening to Sparks for 50 years and it is engrained in my memory.... i think you have nailed it
Me before watching this video: "Keith Moon is the hardest drummer to imitate. I don't know anyone that has pulled it off." Me after watching this video: "Keith Moon is the hardest drummer to imitate. I know one guy who pulled it off." I hope people appreciate how much dedication must have gone into nailing this piece, because it's not just getting the right notes, it's hitting them the way Keith Moon did, and that's almost impossible. Great job seriously, unbelievable.

@@TheMurty01 No, no, Thank YOU!!! Heh. But seriously, I've had so many conversations with drummers about the Keith Moon sounds, and he'd really get the shells to resonate in such a way that really no drummer replicates. And you got that same sound. I just am blown away at how great this sounds. Keith is smiling from rock and roll heaven.
Imagine Moon playing like that for 2 hours.

1. Wow!!!!!! 2. More Wow!!! 3...... I bet your neighbours love you practicing that! Great techique. ...
Such a thrill! Thank you for showing how it's done. Absolutely beautiful.
Yep you nailed it. Great work and demo of how busy Moon's hands were especially during the Tommy era
Fantastic!
Bravo !!
Hands down, the most awesome Moon cover evah.
Thank you son....outstanding
This was so good. I have cranked this medley since I have owned both Tommy and Live at Leeds way back when and this was done very well. I've gotten looks at the traffic lights doing the air drums but you just can't help it.
That was awesome! My favorite who track
Oh my GOSH!! Nuances and ALL!!😍! Thank you so much, for sharing and rocking it hard!!
Excellent work my friend. You nailed it!
This is the best song by the who and it will be for ever
I keep coming back to watch this. Its really another level bro👍💪
Outstanding!
You took on THE greatest drum performance ever captured on a live rock LP... and more than did it justice! Somewhere Keith Moon is raising a glass of ale to honor your faithful, spirited take on his style.
GREAT!!BRAVO...
WHILE READING UP ABOUT THE FAMOUS WHO LIVE AT THE FILLMORE EAST 1968 CONCERT JUST RELEASED ON VINYL AND CD, I CAME UPON THIS. This is what the uploader, TheMurty01, had to say "This drum cover is the result of an effort to replicate Keith Moon's artillery barrage on the drums during one of The Who's greatest live performances; that is the famed Live at Leeds version of Amazing Journey and Sparks from the album Tommy. After many attempts, it's almost impossible to nail it 100%, but I was finally satisfied with this go!" This is an awesome drum cover. Can't think of a better wake me up this Sunday morning.

Phenomenal! My favorite Who song! Truly incredible performance! Great double bass and cymbal work!
I am not a drummer (just a Who fan), but I thought this was really fantastic. Must have to taken a lot of hard work to replicate this sound, pattern and overall feel. Thanks for posting.

I am Impressed. Keith Moon was all over the place 100% of the time. Great rendition
Incredible 👍
I am a Who Freak and this was Awsome stuff man!!!
What a very very good job! Bravo from France. Long live The Who.
Fantastic
WHO drumming is so unique by the founding father KEITH MOON. " Good Job."
finally a drummer who can emulate Keith Moon moves and grooves.. is so difficult.
Nice….great cymbal roll and nice tom fills
Flawless
I just rediscovered the Tommy album and it's been blowing my mind... Outstanding cover 👍
Eeeeeesooo. Brutal👍👍👍👍👍.
Amazing!!! Keith Moon would be proud!!

Just diiscovered this...not many can do Moon justice...but you've set the mark here. Moon was such a creative player and also very polarizing. I'm in the camp that believes he was an awesome, mad drum genius - and you've done him proper here...
