Neil Peart himself played in this very room at the drum channel, and I think I was channeling him as this was the quickest I had ever shot a drum cover. RIP Neil Peart, you shall be missed! 🥁
Next on the Meytal menu: Stinkfist by Tool. If and when I can figure out what’s going on in the bridge that is 🤷🏻♀🥳🔥 see it first on meytalcohen.com/patreon

This is friggin' awesome!! ... I went to high school with both Geddy and Alex back in the mid 70's and I remember when the late great Neil Peart joined the band in 1974. Neil (aka "The Professor") became one of the greatest drummers of all-time, and you would make him proud with your take on this masterpiece. You nailed it to perfection! I never thought anyone but HIM could do those drum fills after the guitar solo, but you did. You also make it look so easy with your relaxed style. You are incredibly talented Meytal. 👍👍👍

I’m 66 and started drumming at 8. The key to the beauty in this cover is the effortlessness of your talent. Ignore the complainers that get lost in the tuning of your kit or the differences in the engineered sound. As far as hand and pedal strikes are concerned, I’d bet the late, great Neil Peart had nights when he made far more errors (vs the studio recording) than I could discern. That was fantastic! You have quite a career ahead of you.

@@69ozz69: Thank you for the reply! My talent was never at his/her level on a drum kit. I could probably play the rhythm parts without too much effort, but never developed the extreme speed to pull off some of the fills. Besides being an adequate drummer, I was a complete percussionist who spent some time in a symphony orchestra on the tympani and keyboard instruments. Cheers!

@@Primus54 Thanks, that makes sense. Wow, an orchestra, that is impressive. I couldn't get through most of it - far too technical. I thought I was OK with the base pedal 'til I tried Bonham or Peart - yeah, can't do those. I guess I'm more of a Nick Mason type drummer, haha. I think most great drummers are made after the fact, if ya know what I mean? Good chat. Cheers

@@69ozz69: I just rewatched the video. The amazing thing to me is that she holds the sticks in a very non-traditional match-grip way... at the very ends. Because her stick work on fast passages is mostly wrists, she is able to achieve volume through the increased leverage while getting the speed she needs. I was brought up as very much a traditionalist with the standard grip and never tried different stick positions other match-grip. I should have been more bold and open to trial and error! Thanks for the chat!

The best thing about playing iconic drum parts from famous drummers is that the process is a means to an end. The wider your influences are the more varied you technique becomes and then eventually you are able to find your own voice, not longer being satisfied as a cover drummer but releasing creativity that is your own. Keep up the good work.

It could be a smile, joy, sadness, sorrow, elation, euphoria, etc. All that emotion has been edited out. That is why I enjoy watching a performance like this. #1. She NAILED the song. #2. She knew she was nailing it as she was playing it. #3. She played her heart out doing it and was smiling the whole time. That is infectious and alluring. I was smiling the whole time I watched this.
