Glad that you finally liked a White Stripes performance :) Looking forward for more in the future
I miss the White Stripes. God, I used to absolutely love this band. Need to get back into them.
I actually remember their stint on Conan. They were on the whole week. This was pretty late in the band's existence so it probably shouldn't come as a surprise that after a decade of playing hundreds of shows a year that she would get at least a little better. Maybe more than a little. I saw them play in Atlanta a few years before this video, and she was just as solid as she was here. It was a great show. If I'm not mistaken, it was the constant criticism of her drumming that made her decide to disappear from the public eye, never to be heard from again. As always though, I enjoyed your review. Cheers David!

like everything you're saying but i would argue it was more middle of their existence as they're advertising their fourth album "Elephant" here which came out ... 2003/2004? and they had two major albums after this before finally disbanding in 2011.

@@brandonmeng3998 I missed the part where he says Eliphant. That means that I must be confusing this Conan appearence with a later one. When I saw them, they were touring for Eliphant. The live DVD that they filmed in Blackpool, England is from around this time also. Meg is solid there too. Cheers

@@_rafael_b I remember back in the day I'd watch Blackpool on repeat. I was obsessed. And they had numerous Conan appearances, so easy to get confused .. + they even had a music video for The Denial Twist that featured Conan O'Brien hosting his own show. Lots of great content.
Jack had her start playing drums when he was in his bedroom. He taught her and she was exactly perfect for The White Stripes and his vision. Regardless of anything else there aren't a huge number of two piece bands on the charts. There are a lot of drummers that are amazing in one band but can never transition. The White Stripes were designed at the opposite of "perfection" by design. Meg was perfect, Jack was perfect .. For the idea. The White Stripes were perfectly imperfect.
Moe Tucker, Ringo Star .. Meg White .. Well .. Meg is totally playing off Jack or visa versa. Meg is terrified and take a look at how Jack keeps going to her. She quit because she couldn't do it anymore. Walked off stage and told one of the crew it was the last show. Jack taught her to play to him and watching her enough it isn't exactly wrong, it fits the song. She is a very capable drummer and does that.. Drums .. Meg married Jackson Smith son of Patti Smith and the late guitarist Fred “Sonic” Smith of the rock band MC5. Now divorced and staying out of the limelight with her family. Love her .. Jack to. His music covers so many levels including a great duet with Loretta Lynn where he produced and did his guitar thing on the whole album.
Didn't think I'd see these guys on here again 😂.
Glad to see you finally came around. Respect
Probably my favorite band from the 00's

They seemed to be the only band then. Lots of garbage music in that era

@GodWeenSatan jack is such a great musician & playing with Meg let him shine
You definitely gotta check out their performance of Blue Orchid live from The Basement. It is incredible & raw!
A clean mind, a clean drum beat. Probably didn't take her needle that day. The only explanation I can think of. I'll say it so you don't have to.

Sobriety seems to be the only logical answer, I agree.
i absolutely love it... as an eternally devout white stripes fan, don't ever do another white stripes song because i want the last song you hear by them to be the one you liked the best ... cheers!

I agree she sounds like she's playing drunk sometimes. I saw them in Blackpool and she was pretty steady throughout.

Not the biggest white stripes fan...but i liked that song very much!! Nice reaction again dave 😎
Also check out THE HIVES! Bogus Operandi Hate to say I told you so
I love Meg. I think the sloppy play had something to do with the original sound of garage rock.
"The White Stripes - From the Basement (Official Performance)" is a great one too!

I actually think that's one of their worst ones. I'd much rather see him react to songs from the Blackpool concert. Jolene for example.

You can't go wrong with "Blue Orchid" on this one though ;)

@@Alvin9910. Yeah, I agree. That's the best song from that era of their discography. I just hate Get Behind Me Satan. I don't like anything off of that album except for Blue Orchid.
She always followed Jack The sloppily feel anytime you hear it is from Jack.
That's deffo Meg sat there
I know I said don't watch anything else from the White Stripes because I want the last one you watch to be one you like but I've thought about it for a while and I feel like you might actually like their Grammy performance from 2004 would be something you could get into ... not that I'm heavily invested into White Stripes reactions or anything
Been meaning to ask, why the switchup on the rating scale?

this is from The Tonight Show, so it's NBC, BUT i believe Conan himself owns the rights to his episodes now.

Late Night, not the Tonight Show. But I think you're otherwise right on here.
Meg… the human metronome lol.
this is probably before most the other white stripes live vids you reacted to... maybe she cared more back then? They were both on fire here
Hi David, Cheers from 🇧🇷! Could you react to Carry Me Home - Red Hot Chili Peppers?
