The White Pass & Yukon

Travel to scenic Alaska, British Columbia
and Yukon aboard the trains of the White
Pass & Yukon Route.
In this program:
• Experience being on board the train ,
trackside, and in the locomotive cab
as the train climbs from sea level in
Skagway, Alaska, to an elevation of
2,864 feet at White Pass, only 20
miles away!
• Watch as the train clings to the side
of the mountain and dives through
tunnels.
• To see the rest of the line’s operation,
you will ride the train out of Carcross,
Yukon as it goes along the shores of
beautiful Bennett Lake, then climbs
Fraser Hill to Fraser, British Columbia
.
• Enjoy scenes of the 2-8-2 steam
locomotive #73 in action as well
.
• Relive your Alaska vacation, or plan a
new one with this beautiful program.
There’s something for everyone!
This program, was shot when the classic ALCO's (MLW) and GE's were still in charge of the trains.
Enjoy line side scenes at White Pass summit with the railroad covered in snow, as well as runways on the "hidden" side of the railroad along Bennett Lake.
A great program for railfans and scenery lovers alike!

I love you guys, I watched Winter Steam Spectacular, the older version of this program, Santa Fe Mainline Memories, and Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad since I was 2, I am now 17, and I am admired by this day that I get to learn about the history and cities that I did not know about. Thank you guys for being one of my Educational virtual mentors, I am happy to see that you guys exist, you will never regret this.

They are amazing, I honor these railroads, and the locomotives, no matter if they're steam or diesel, I always honor their history and their fame. My favorite steam locomotive is up 844, I wish she's still run around still, but let's see what the future brings. I admired these programs and will never forget them even if they're still around. I will keep my addiction to steam locomotives and Railway Productions until the end of my days.

Wonderful video footage! This footage must have been taken place before the newest diesels arrived. I have traveled the WP&Y 4 times: once to Whitehorse in 1979, twice to Bennett and return in 1982, and once most recently to Summit and return. One of the trips in 1982 was behind steam locomotive #73. The BBC was aboard that trip to film it. I would always come back to ride this line!

This was shot in early May 2006, and Mid-May 2007. I haven't followed the snow up there lately, but I would imagine you'll get some snow up by White Pass at least. Some things have changed, there are new modern diesels, and some of the 101 series locomotives are actually running on the Durango & Silverton now, but the ride is still just as great. If you get the chance, ride the train as far a Carcross. An entirely different experience from the ride up the pass.
