Just found this film through Wikipedia's 'random article' button. Sounds like an exciting trip - and the director was only 17 when he made it.
Obviously this shows you that trying to build a railway across the Canadian Shield was just as hard 100 years ago as it is today. I do hope that the recent proposal to build out the Port Nelson port happens because the more ports that ship to Western Canada the better...
I worked the snowball express line to Churchill in the late ‘70’s. As visible, the rail needed constant repair and rebuild. Hard to believe I’m still young and handsome. Well young, well old. What a great life working there. Playing poker every evening and eating like a king. I also found an ancient path through the woods west to the sun with 2carved buxom women flanking eastern hill trail.
This is in my back yard so to speak I would really like to go the same way as depicted in the film some day.
You can take via rail train to churchill these days, allow extra time as it stops quite a bit, supposed to be quite scenic
WOW
It's a wonder the train didn't derail from those terrible tracks 14:49

I love to try to ride my dual sport bike down the old rail track towards Port Nelson,, Amazing how that old dredger is still visible..

lipsee100, have you looked into this? On Google Earth you can still make out the path that leads from Amery to Port Nelson, but to my knowledge the rails were never laid. I would doubt that the path is even passable, even on foot. Or maybe in winter, with a snowmobile. If I'm mistaken, please let me know. I'm a sort of railbike nut, and covering that route would be the adventure of a lifetime.

Rail never made it through there, only rail bed was constructed which means no bridges

@@user-ok5xr1jp3e That so ! I saw a YT vid of a train jounery, in about 1928 going most of the way there, with a river boat ride towards the end...and looking at google maps you can still disarn the track today,,,,I,m not saying you are wrong ,,it just what i,v seen..
On to the Bay once more
wild it was pretty much never used. churchill didn't even work out too well either. too treacherous and closed too much of the year. hudsons bay must be impeded by ice most of 6 months a year.
