Road To Tar Valon pointed out that water is used throughout both series as a metaphor for channelling, which gives even more impact to the scenes with Egwene, Renna and the pitcher. When Egwene finally pours water into Renna's cup, she is also symbolically giving Renna her ability to channel. Killed me all over again, and wow, what amazing writing and acting. @@kyneilen

I truly was moved by Ryma’s (Yellow Ajah) performance & sacrifice to save the girls. It was heartbreaking & hard to watch Egwene being tortured like that. The Seanchan are horrible, but I couldn’t take my eyes off the screen. I definitely was in the feels this episode. 🥺💔….. (Side bar) the way they use the One Power this season is amazing, some Ajah use it in the most unique ways!

Absolutely fantastic episode, all the uses of the power in this episode were oh so perfect, Rhyma's use of yellow ajah learned powers to inflict damage rather than heal was incredibly done, the way she breaks bones instead or setting them, and heats the skin on the other Sul-dam's face 😵. Also my god Natasha O'keefe is just the best Lanfear I could ever imagine. Her small facial tweaks and body language give so much away of Lanfears character, what a stunning screen presence. Also shout out to Mad Madden and Zelia Mendes-Jones who were both amazing in those Sul-dam/damane scenes.

Rewatch the scene with Loiel singing The young people in the room are fascinated and actually marveling at what is happening They are snapped back to being selfish beings when the leader realizes that the others are in awe of what is happening and like a influencer, she turns it into a laugh time which they join in out of habit Was a good scene looking at it that maybe the younger crowd are wanting of more than slaves

wow what you said about the cup and her power - fantastic, if that is what they and RJ intended I never even thought of that! Perfect. The acting was incredible from everyone, and so many subtle moments some would miss (like Elayne and Nyn when Ryma…) and Maigan’s comment about Egwene basically being more steadfast than a Sitter… I am still overwhelmed by it all but so grateful for more proof the writers, directors and actors get these books.

I am a book series reader who is loving season 2. I think the book vs show changes impacted a lot of ppl’s opinions because the acting and direction wasn’t that good in season 1… and so ppl were over analyzing what went wrong. I didn’t hate season 1, but wow this season is great! I get why ppl are picky, but from my point of view screen adaptations are usually an inspired version. Yes, I've been surprised by the vehemence of the folks who don't like the tv series. I've read the book series twice now, and I learned about them from seeing the first season two years ago. I love both the books and the tv adaptation. Season 2 is knocking it out of the park. As someone else here said, the end game is likely the same but the way the tv series is getting there is different; of course, as adapting a 14 book series would necessarily be. I think Amazon and the production crew, etc. have really upped their game this season.

The way Ryma helped Nyn channel was very cool, but I really wish it had been Elaine who found the nuance of the a'dam. I know Nyn solved it in the book, but since Elaine is the one who eventually has the Talent with ter'angreal, letting her solve this would be one retcon I would wholeheartedly support.

Season 2 is definitely stronger on many levels. I feel like the editing is sometimes choppy (e.g. when Egwene gets captured in the forest by Seanchan, or when Ryma gets collared). Also sometimes the settings feel a bit underwhelming. I hope they get to the level where they can create a bit more epic/vast feel to the scenes.

Thank you for a consise but insightful recap of this very moving and emotioal episode. Given how awful, powerful and emotional it was seeing Egwene suffering and to a lesser extend watch the Yellow sister sacrafice therself while Nynaeve and Elaine finally bond over their shared frustration at being unable to help its easy to miss a lot of the other nuggets of lore and hints as to the future that dropped in the other scenes. I nyst respectfully disagree with you on how sudden Logain agreed to help. I don't know how long story wise has passed between episode 3 and 6 but its at least a few weeks if not longer. Logain is stuck in a nice garden with absolutely nothign to do but think of what he has lost. I would imagine thining about the request to train Rand is the only distraction he has from his boredome and pain. He has been stewing on it for weeks. I think that the scene also gives a hint of Rand becoming someone who can inspire others to follow him, a bit like he started assuming a leadership role in Book 2. He tries to bribe Logain at the start of the season, so does Moiraine later on. Now he has the smarts to try a differnet tactic and appeal to Logain's vanity and desperate need to have made a difference/mattered. I also thougth the show did an excelent job of showing Rand's relative underwelming performance one power wise up to this point. Don't get me wrong Rand seriously nuked the fade but the show at least to me made it seem that Nynaeve might actually be stronger than Rand. Only now we learn he was doing it the wrong way. So even using the wrong technique he is powerful but once he starts seizing the saidan we see him light up to match Nynaeve. As to the quesion is Logain right and Rand is so powerful he doesn't need skill i think he is right in the short term but wrong in the long term. Against an average Aes Sedai or Damane or a group of soldiers or even warders Rand could likley wipe the floor with them if he can control to a degree what he wasnt to so. But we know he going to have to eventually go up against channelers who while they might be not quite as strong as him are still roughly in his weight class and have much better control over what they can do. That control and refinement could easly see them overcome Rand's superior strength. One thing that the show has been silent on is does Rand still have the sa'angreal that Moiraine gave him at the end of season 1? Even if she was wrong and its only an angreal that would give him a major boost in taking on someone like Ishamael, at least until he can find a tutor and start leveling up his own abilities. I don't see how we will have any more time for lessons with Logain. POSSIBLE FUTURE SHOW SPOILERS We only have two episodes left Given that at the moment all roads/Ways? seem to be leading to Falme and there is the Seanchan invasion/Egwene's rescue/ retrieve the Horn, fight Ishamael to deal with my guess is episode 8 will be jam packed as it is. That leaves eposode 7. From the preview a non book reader might think the Amrylin has come with 14 Aes Sedai to gentle Rand. On the other hand it looks like we are getting the meeting between Rand & Siuan from the start of book 2 or at least a version of it. Given that Rand is pretty set on saving Egwene I don't think he will be taking time out to do any side quests once he is finished with the Amyrlin. if he does it would need to be handled very carefully otherwise it might come across that he is not treating Egwene's sitaution with the urgency it deserves. Its true that he has not seen the full extent of her 'training' but what he did see was bad enough. She was in a cell, barefoot, sleeping on a hard stone floor with no bed or furnature and with a rather unpleasant looking object around her throat and shoulders. I'm surprised that Rand did not tell Lan he was busy with a rescue misson and Lan needed to step aside or else. Lastly we might see some of the Seanchan beasts in the next episode. Unless they ignore Egwene (which I don't see how they can) now that she has in the Seanchan view started to break she will probably be brought out of her cell, maybe be given some backstory about the first damane and sul'dam. If the show is going to have Seanchan exotics this would be the best time for show viewers to catch a glimpse of them. Even if they don't have all the ground animals having the flying animals is quite important for a certain major plot event/ attack that comes later in the series.

You don't need to know more than this, your'e now a master,, congrats! you're great, kid, in fact you're so awesome that you don't really need any training, you'll be fine. I'm so curious about the scene with Lanfear and Liandrin, you'd think Lanfear's actions would turn Liandrin off from helping the dark, but then she mentions that the oaths sworn to the Dark One are still valid, she hasn't voided them despite "euthanising" the son, so was it all just a display of malice and power? There was a lot of trauma here in this episode, but I noticed 2 absolutely wonderful things that happened: 1- Nynaeve and Elayne hold hands to support each other for what they will need to do and 2- the renewed resolve showing in Egwene's face before it cuts to credits, just because the woman in the cell next to her finally speaks to her, trying to give her comfort. Hard episode to watch, but oh my.

  • @allenbird
    @allenbird10 ай бұрын

The torture and treatment of Egwene is truly brutal. The fact that they eventually make her go by a PET name in the books shows the extent of brainwashing that occurs in these situations. What I think about is how egwene gets through this and how she uses this to become stronger and amazingly in the story is never truly broken by it. It really is hopeful when putting It in this light for me. I do not enjoy seeing the abuse at the hands of the seanchan. It is horrible to see that part of the books brought to light, but then I believe these things need to be in the light. The only part of the episode from a book stand point that I didn't enjoy was when Lan was trying to leave and Alanna and her warders qmwere questioning whether Lan was a darkfriend. The notion just seems ludicrous knowing who he is and where he is from. Lan had to have a good reason why he had that in his bags but they never asked him. I mean yes, reading the books we always knew more than the characters in the books, but this seemed to be a stretch in my opinion. Anyone else, sure, question it, but Lan of all people?? Logain teaching rand to channel is interesting. They have changed a bit of the lore for this part but I like the acting and visuals and understand it need to come from someone. I wonder what liandrin will do now and how they will expand. I can also see this as an opportunity for moghedian to work with liandrin like she did in the books. Mat min and rand...what will they do? I suppose we have a lot of unanswered questions as far as what will occur and what decisions they will have to make. I hope hope hope hope moraine gets her power back. I am expecting it at some point that someone will delve her and figure out she just has a really complicated knot on her shield, as has been described in the books. Though with less internal monolog about the power itself, it's hard to determine exactly what they can feel with the power. How many crowns for whether the ship captain is Bayle domon?

Agreed!! Barney Harris was great but his take on Mat felt 90% melancholy, 10% snark, (in fairness that's arguably because he's warped by the dagger's influence most of that season), whereas Donal Finn's performance is more lighthearted and fun while still running deep emotionally--you really FEEL the mutual love between these two boyhood friends and what it means to Matt in this episode. So far Donal's performance feels so much more like Mat to me. Early days of course but that was my only hesitation with Mat's character. I'm hardly a book purist but you do want three main characters to FEEL recognizable, and for me in the books, even with the dagger, Mat isn't a character with a *sad-forward* energy, you know? Unhinged sometimes, sure, but sad? Rarely 😊 ...he is at least as traumatized as everyone else of course, but one of his defining (and most relatable) traits is that he uses humor, luck, and/or anger and violence to deal with everything.

@@bhabatoshnayak2916 It is a book spoiler...Let's just say Siuan is sending a warning/message to the dragon reborn. In the books they made a big point this large a number of Aes Sedai together is how they take control of powerful male channelers. So they can be gentled. I think they're there in case she has to use them against Rand.

not even games of thrones can invest so much of viewers' time in relentless torture of a key player only to crush her and get rid of her .. i didn't read any of the books, but certainly Egwene is destined for greatness in the series.. the torture was very tiresome.. it better delivers

The torture is integral to Egwene’s character development, it deepens her. I don’t think this is gratuitous violence at all.

Also the torture in GoT was purely torture for torture's sake, they did a good job with getting everyone to hate Ramsay Bolton. This is a little different in that they are showing the mentality of an entire nation by trying to weaponise Egwene to be used in the Seanchan Empire, they are trying to meld a powerful tool. But it is important to Egwene's story.

I found the Egwene scenes so disturbing I am dreading watching a second time. The use of the water jug is a really good focus to condense so many book scenes in one and as you say the symbolism is perfect. Also that hand hold between Elaine and Nyneave is just as wonderful as the Rand Matt hug. The appearance of the Aes Sedai is similar to their arrival in Faldara in book 1 so I will watch out for Liandin's compulsion being used on the Damodreds as she did on Agelmar's sister. And also watch out for Alanna around Rand, what will she try to do? I loved the yellow sister Ryma and I do hope she gets rescued and we can see more of her, but without her warder it will be so hard. I am a bit ambivalent about what is happening between Matt and Min. I think being a traitor or tempted to work for the dark is so far from her book character I am worried about whether they will try to get rid of her. I love book Min.

Guys, the show is great, please easy on critizing it, stop hating it just beacuse it doesn't exactly match the books, take it as a different take. I am afraid that too much critizing might hurt the series 💔 I am new to the WoT realm but I am really enjoying the show so far ❤

There's no possible way to faithfully adapt 14 800-page novels with nearly 2500 named characters - I think they're hitting most of the character points really well while making Darkfriends and Seanchan into something more than cookie-cutter baddies. It's like we're in a flicker-universe very close to Jordan's world - I don't love everything they've done but overall they seem to really understand the characters. And of course, the casting. Wow. Renna turned from pleasant and almost solicitous to brutal anger when Egwene didn't appreciate the connection while Renna let her channel - but if you watch closely, it looks like it genuinely hurt her feelings for a moment to have the 'bond' rejected and she lashed out. Those two women are super powerful together and have great chemistry. Goosebumps.

@@Panicagq2 I agree, the negativity toward the series is disheartening. I'm loving the adaptation, having read the series twice now. It would be impossible to exactly replicate the books. I think they're doing a great job of capturing the essence of most of the characters and their progression/journey, especially this season.

As a Brit, I can reliably inform you that your favorite Mat gesture wasn't "a fist bump". Without being too NSFW, it's a gesture that represents something boys (and men) do to amuse themselves. It's normally associated with the common blokey slurs w*nker and t*sser. Among friends and enemies it's a very common gesture of mild rebuke/abuse. But, hey, we at least know Mat is a southpaw now!

I know its hard but try not to compare the two..think of the as different points of views of the characters...the books are always better then the shows/ movies that's because its not our imagination filling in the blanks but a team working together. Our imagination is endless so they'll never never get it right. Knowing this And knowing time is limited? Please do yourself a favor and try to enjoy both.maybe not the same story over all. But you have to😢 give them credit for all the acting they did...dont show yr husband the books to afterwards. A lot of people are visual and will except a lesser story instead of having to put the effort into reading all the books thierselves... Be well..

We start with a Thor: Ragnarok scene. I think we are not going to get all the forsaken because Lanfear is wearing black when she should be wearing white. So we should be losing Semirhage because in the books, Semirhage always wear black because Lanfear always wear white. I am not sure what's the point of all the Moiraine scenes to be honest. It's waste of time. While I do hate this tv series, I do think that the actress for Liandrin is really good. And this show is once again, inconsistent. The last scene where Ryma was killing the Suldum... the damane should be feel twice over but the damane was still standing as if just having a stomachache. This show is really quite bad, considering that they have such great material to work with and they screwed it up.

That ring may have no opening, but it has seams that have not been completely rubbed out. I can see at least one. So for me, that is a prop disappointment. I loved this episode but can’t unsee one costume thing. It broke my suspension of disbelief here, just as it did in Game of Thrones: perfectly polished fingernails. Llyandrin’s pastel iridescent nails look very present-day to me. And Daenerys had them too, even after she burned the city. Why is that necessary? Shape and buff natural nails, for believability’s’ sake, please.

Wow, what a powerful episode from a non-bookreader!!👍👍👍The seanchan really have a VERY particular point of view!! Egwene deserves that water after all that torture!!💦💦💦 I myself needed a cup of tea after watching it! The aes sedai also have a very particular point of view in that they still men that can channel, which leads to death or insanity . The only thing that keeps them in check seems to be their three oaths. Otherwise, they might as well be darkfriends too!🎡🎡🎡⌚️⌚️⌚️
